Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the difference in hue between a higher-concentration ink and a lower-concentration ink and make it possible to record clear and high-quality images free of pseudo-outlines, by performing ink jet recording on a recording material comprising a surfactant at the surface thereof by use of the higher concentration ink and the lower-concentration ink. CONSTITUTION:On a recording material comprising a surfactant at a recording surface thereof, recording is conducted by using at least two color inks, with at least two inks different in dye concentration being used for at least one of the colors. The recording material need not be provided specially with an ink-absorptive layer, and may be a general ordinary paper, woodfree paper or the like such as a conventional copying paper. The surfactant may be a nonionic surfactant, a cationic surfactant or the like, without any particularly restriction. A favorable range of surface tension of the ink to be used is 45-65 dyn/cm. An ink-absorbing property is enhanced without lowering the surface tension of the inks to be used, and the difference in hue between the higher- concentration ink and the lower-concentration ink is eliminated, whereby high- quality images are recorded.

(Prior Art) Conventionally, there are many known inkjet recording methods, such as a continuous jet type, an impulse type (on-demand type), and an electrostatic suction type, but all of these types use liquid. Recording is performed by making small droplets of ink fly and adhere to a recording material, and water-based ink is often used from the standpoint of safety and recording suitability.

For full-color recording, inks of three colors, yellow (Y), magenta (M), and cyan (C), or four colors including black, are applied from dedicated nozzles for each color of the recording head.
Discharge while controlling the discharge amount of each color, and
This is done by allowing the pixels to mix and absorb each ink. Furthermore, the image quality can be improved by using a plurality of inks of the same color but with different dye concentrations (hereinafter referred to as dark and light inks) to broaden the range of colors.

In addition, any recording material that has ink absorption properties can be used, but in the case of recording materials that do not have a special ink absorption layer, such as ordinary plain paper or high-quality paper, Since the ink absorbency, resolution, and coloring properties of these papers are insufficient, special paper called inkjet recording paper, which has an ink absorption layer with excellent ink absorption properties on the surface of these papers, is used. There is.

(Problem to be solved by the invention) Although the above-mentioned special paper has excellent recording properties, the manufacturing process is complicated and the cost is high. There is a demand for the development of an inkjet recording method that can print with the same or similar quality to that of special paper even when paper or high-quality paper is used.

However, when non-specialized paper such as plain paper or high-quality paper is used as a recording material, it has poor ink absorbency, so if you lower the surface tension of the ink and increase its permeability into the paper,
A problem arises in that ink ejection stability deteriorates and image quality deteriorates.

Moreover, when dark and light inks are used, there is a problem that the hue does not change continuously at the joint between the two inks, and the boundary between the two inks stands out, resulting in a false contour. Figure 1 shows
The hue change A of the light cyan ink and the hue change B of the light cyan ink are shown in the north part of the a1b'' chromaticity diagram.A dither method, etc. is used in the shaded area corresponding to the seam, but sufficient effects are not obtained. Improvement was desired.

(Function) By incorporating a surfactant into the recording surface of a recording material using an alcohol solution or the like, ink absorption can be increased without reducing the surface tension of the ink used. In order to widen the dot diameter, it is possible to eliminate the difference in hue between dark and light inks, and to form a smooth, high-quality recorded image without false contours.

As the surfactant to be applied to such a recording material, conventionally known surfactants such as sulfated oil, anionic surfactants such as sodium alkylnaphthalene sulfonate, polyoxyethylene alkyl sulfate, and polyoxyethylene alkyl sulfate can be used. Nonionic surfactants such as ethylene alkyl ether and other thionic surfactants can also be used, and are not particularly limited. The amount applied to the paper is not particularly limited, but is generally about txto-5 to 1 x 10-2 g/rn'
degree is preferred.

The application method may be any method as long as it can be applied uniformly to the recording surface of the recording material. For example, impregnation with an aqueous solution or spray coating is suitable, or a solution of alcohol such as methanol or ethanol. It can also be applied in the same way, and it is particularly preferable to use an alcohol solution because the viscosity of the solution is low and the solvent evaporates quickly after application. It is also possible to add a surfactant to the recording material.

Further, the ink used in the present invention contains dyes as colorants, but these dyes are not particularly limited as long as they are dyes used in conventionally known inkjet inks. In addition to the above-mentioned water-soluble dye, the ink used in the present invention may contain water as a liquid medium, a water-soluble organic solvent such as a polyhydric alcohol, a wetting agent, a surfactant, and other various additives. Naturally, the types of these liquid media and various additives, their blending ratios, etc. are the same as those of conventional inkjet inks, and are not particularly limited.
