Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to an occupant protection device configured to deploy and inflate an airbag, which is stored on the roof side in front of and above a seated occupant of a vehicle, downward from the storage portion so as to protect the occupant in the event of a vehicle collision.

A conventional occupant protection system that houses an airbag on the roof side consists of a substantially rectangular plate-shaped airbag that deploys downward from the roof side to protect the occupant's upper body, including the head. There is a configuration in which a connecting member (tether) that is connected to the tip side of the airbag and restricts forward movement of the lower end side of the airbag is provided (see, for example, Patent Document 1). In this occupant protection system, the lower end side of the airbag is supported by the connecting member so that the airbag does not move forward when inflation is completed. accepted and protected.

However, in the conventional occupant protection device, the lower end of the airbag is supported by the connecting member to prevent the airbag from moving forward, but the rear surface of the airbag that receives the occupant has a surface shape that extends substantially in the vertical direction. There is room for improvement in terms of protecting the occupant by quickly catching the head, which quickly moves to the furthest forward position during a vehicle collision.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an occupant protection system in which an airbag that is deployed downward from the roof side can stably receive and protect the occupant's head. .

The occupant protection device according to the present invention is housed in the front upper roof side of a seated occupant in a vehicle, deploys and inflates downward when inflating gas flows in, and can protect the head of the occupant moving forward in the event of a vehicle collision. an airbag that catches the
a connecting member having a front end side connected to the airbag and a base side connected to a roof side rearward of the airbag housing portion so as to restrict forward movement of the airbag when inflation is completed;
An occupant protection device comprising
When the airbag completes inflation,
a base expanding portion extending downward from the storage portion;
Projecting rearward from the expanded base portion, the vicinity of the rear end surface serves as a receiving surface for the occupant's head, and the upper surface side and the lower surface side extending forward from the receiving surface are expanded to both upper and lower sides. a receiving expansion part having an expansion completion shape to be connected to the base expansion part by separating the base expansion part;
and
The connecting member is arranged to be displaced to both the left and right sides from the receiving surface of the airbag when the inflation is completed, and the tip side is connected to the left and right sides of the airbag when the inflation is completed, and the base side is connected to the left and right sides of the airbag. It is characterized in that it is arranged so as to be connected to the roof side behind the receiving surface of the airbag when the inflation is completed.

In the occupant protection device according to the present invention, when the airbag is deployed and inflated downward from the housing portion on the roof side during operation to complete inflation, the base inflatable portion extends downward from the housing portion and the rear surface of the base inflatable portion extends downward. The bulging receiving portion protrudes rearward from the side, and the head of the occupant moving forward is received by the receiving surface near the rear end surface of the bulging receiving portion. At this time, the connecting member whose tip side is connected to the right and left sides of the airbag deviated from the receiving surface connects the root side to the roof side behind the receiving surface, thereby preventing the forward movement of the receiving inflation portion. The airbag is held so as to restrain it, and the occupant's head is received by the receiving expansion part in a state where the forward movement is restrained by the connecting member and the reaction force is increased without interfering with the connecting member. It will be accepted depending on the aspect. Further, the expanded receiving portion that has completed its expansion extends forward from the receiving surface in a completed expansion shape in which the upper surface side and the lower surface side extending forward from the receiving surface are separated so as to expand vertically. The inflatable portion has a shape that widens the width in the vertical direction, so that a high reaction force is generated as the receiving surface moves forward, and the occupant's head can be received and protected with good cushioning properties.

Therefore, in the occupant protection system according to the present invention, the airbag deployed downward from the roof side can stably receive and protect the occupant's head.

Further, in the occupant protection device according to the present invention, when the inflation is completed, the upper surface side and the lower surface side of the inflatable receiving portion are substantially vertically symmetrical with respect to a center line along the longitudinal direction passing through the receiving surface. In addition, it is desirable that the front end extending downward on the lower surface side is arranged in the vicinity of the front upper part of the knees of the seated occupant.

In such a configuration, the receiving expansion part at the time of completion of inflation has the upper surface side and the lower surface side arranged in a substantially symmetrical shape in the vertical direction, and when receiving the head of the occupant moving forward, the receiving expansion part at the rear end The surface can be moved forward without being biased vertically, and the head of the occupant moving forward can be accurately received and protected. In addition, when the expansion is completed, the front end of the lower surface side of the inflatable portion is arranged so as to extend near the front and upper part of the knees of the seated occupant. The airbag can receive and protect the lower side of the inflatable receiving portion, and the inflatable receiving portion can suitably receive and protect the upper half of the head and chest of the occupant moving forward.

Further, in the occupant protection system according to the present invention, the receiving inflation portion of the airbag when inflation is completed extends forward as a substantially columnar shape from the receiving surface side, and is a hollow space penetrating therebetween in the left-right direction. It is desirable that a portion is provided, and an upper inflation portion on the upper surface side and a lower inflation portion on the lower surface side are arranged.

In such a configuration, the receiving inflation portion is provided with a hollow portion penetrating in the left-right direction. At the very least, inflation can be completed quickly. Of course, even if the inflatable receiving portion of the airbag is provided with a hollow portion, when the inflatable receiving portion receives the occupant's head with the receiving surface at the rear end, the bifurcation from the vicinity of the receiving surface at the rear end. The front ends of the substantially columnar upper and lower inflatable parts branched vertically in a shape are connected to the rear surface side of the base inflatable part, and the upper inflatable part and the lower inflatable part cooperate ( The upper inflatable portion and the lower inflatable portion are compressed and deformed so as to substantially follow the respective axial directions so that the rear ends of both of them approach the front end side, so that they can withstand the pressing force of the occupant's head moving forward. The occupant's head can be favorably received and protected by the receiving surface at the rear end of the receiving expanded portion that intersects with the .

In this case, in the occupant protection device of the present invention, the connecting member connects the tip end side to both the left and right sides of the lower end side of the lower inflation portion when inflation is completed, and the direction from the tip end side to the base portion side is It may be arranged in a direction substantially along the axial direction of the lower inflation portion when inflation is completed.

With such a configuration, even if the occupant's head moving forward increases its kinetic energy and moves obliquely downward, the receiving surface of the receiving inflatable portion of the airbag accurately receives and protects the head. can. That is, the lower inflatable portion at the completion of inflation has its lower end side connected to the distal end side of a connecting member arranged substantially along the axial direction of the lower inflatable portion. When receiving the occupant's head on the side receiving surface side, the rear end side of the receiving surface side is in a compressive deformation state (seat When the bending state occurs, the connecting member itself, which is arranged along the axial direction of the lower expansion portion, can directly exert a tensile force to oppose it, so that the lower expansion occurs with a high reaction force. can receive the occupant's head. Therefore, even if the occupant's head moving forward increases its kinetic energy and moves obliquely downward, the receiving surface of the receiving inflatable portion of the airbag can accurately receive and protect it.

The inflator 14 is housed inside the airbag 16 and fixed to the case 12 .

The case 12 is made of metal and has a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape with an opening 12a for the airbag 16 to protrude. is covered. The cover material 6 is pushed open when the airbag 16 is inflated, causing the airbag 16 to protrude downward from the opening 12a.

In addition, the inflator 14 is attached together with the case 12 to the mounting substrate 7 as a rigid body-side member below the roof panel 5 to which the case 12 is attached. The inflator 14 is attached to the mounting board 7 with the rear end side of the case 12, that is, the rear wall 12c side of the ceiling wall 12b facing the opening 12a of the case 12 on the upper side.

The mounting substrate 7 is also extended to the upper surface side of the cover material 6 on the rear side of the case 12, and connects the base portion 35 side of the connecting member 33, which will be described later.

As shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, the airbag 16 is formed in the shape of a bag from an airbag base fabric such as polyamide, and has an inflatable base portion 18 extending downward from the case 12 as a storage portion as an inflated shape. and a reception expansion portion 22 that protrudes rearward from the lower portion 18b side of the base expansion portion 18 and uses the vicinity of the rear end surface 23a as a reception surface 24 for the head H of the occupant OP. The receiving surface 24 is arranged as a substantially semicircular curved surface so that the head H can be received softly.

The base expanding portion 18 extends downward from the case 12 in a columnar shape (substantially square columnar shape in the embodiment), and the receiving expanding portion 22 protrudes from the rear side of the lower portion 18b.

The inflatable receiving portion 22 has an inflatable shape in which the upper surface 22a side and the lower surface 22b side extending forward from the receiving surface 24 are separated so as to be expanded vertically and connected to the base inflatable portion 18. Further, the expansion receiving portion 22 at the completion of expansion is arranged such that the upper surface 22a side and the lower surface 22b side are substantially vertically symmetrical with respect to the center line CX passing through the receiving surface 24 and extending in the front-rear direction. , and the front end 22bc extending downward on the side of the lower surface 22b is arranged in the vicinity of the front upper part of the knee K of the seated occupant OP.

Further, the expansion receiving portion 22 of the first embodiment at the completion of expansion extends forward from the receiving surface 24 (rear end portion 23) side in a substantially columnar shape (substantially square columnar shape in the embodiment), A hollow portion 27 penetrating in the left-right direction is provided in the upper portion 27, and a bifurcated upper expansion portion 29 on the side of the upper surface 22a and a lower expansion portion 31 on the side of the lower surface 22b are arranged. That is, the upper inflatable portion 29 and the lower inflatable portion 31 have their rear ends 29b and 31b crossed at the rear end portion 23 of the receiving inflatable portion 22 itself, and the front end (upper end) 29a of the upper inflatable portion 29 The front end (lower end) 31a of the lower inflatable portion 31 is connected to the lower end 18ba of the base inflatable portion 18 .

The hollow portion 27 is a substantially isosceles triangle having three vertices 27a, 27b, and 27c, which are a vertex 27a on the rear side and vertexes 27b and 27c located above and below the vertex 27a on the front side when viewed from the side. It is configured by providing an opening 28 that opens in a shape.

Similarly, the upper expansion portion 29 and the lower expansion portion 31 of the receiving expansion portion 22 at the completion of expansion also form two sides of an approximately isosceles triangle having the same length dimension. are arranged.

In the base inflating portion 18 where the front end 29a of the upper inflating portion 29 and the front end 31a of the lower inflating portion 31 of the airbag 16 are connected, the front end 29a of the upper inflating portion 29 and the front end 31a of the lower inflating portion 31 are connected. The thickness dimension Td of the lower portion 18b side between and is made slightly smaller than the thickness dimension Tu of the upper portion 18a side in the front-rear direction (see FIG. 1).

The connecting member 33 is formed of a belt member made of flexible cloth or the like, and is arranged so as to be displaced from the receiving surface 24 of the airbag 16 when inflation is completed. The connecting member 33 connects the tip 34 side to the left and right side surfaces of the airbag 16 at the time of completion of inflation, that is, the left side surface 16a side and the right side surface 16b side, and the base portion 35 side to each other when the inflation is completed. A distance WL corresponding to the width dimension WA of the airbag 16 in the left-right direction at the time is left behind the receiving surface 24 on the rear side of the case 12 as a storage part, and further, in the first embodiment, the seated occupant OP It is attached and fixed to the mounting substrate 7 as the above-described vehicle-body-side member, more specifically, to the connection portion 7a of the mounting substrate 7 on the side of the roof 4 on the rearward side. The length dimension LL from the distal end 34 of the connecting member 33 connected to the airbag 16 to the base portion 35 connected to the connecting portion 7a of the mounting substrate 7 is the connecting portion of the distal end 34 side of the airbag 16 in the completed inflation state. 21 and the connecting portion 7a of the mounting substrate 7 connected on the base portion 35 side, the length dimension is set so as not to move the connecting portion 21 forward. In addition, when the airbag 16 is inflated from the stored state, the connecting member 33 breaks the cover material 6 from the case 12 as the storage portion to the vicinity of the base portion 35 to extend the tip 34 side.

In addition, the pair of right and left connecting members 33 of the first embodiment connect the tip 34 side to both the left and right sides of the lower end (front end) 31a side of the lower inflation portion 31 at the time of completion of inflation, and the tip 34 side is connected to the base portion 35 from the tip 34 side. The sideward direction SD is arranged along the axial direction LX of the lower expansion portion 31 at the time of completion of expansion.

In the airbag 16 of the first embodiment, when inflation is completed, the axial direction LX of the lower inflation portion 31 and the axial direction UX of the upper inflation portion are near the vertical center of the rear end face 23a of the receiving inflation portion 22. With respect to the center line CX in the front-rear direction, the crossing angles θ1 and θ2 are about 40°, respectively, and the crossing angle θ0 between the axial directions UX and LX is about 80°.

In addition, in the airbag 16 of the first embodiment, in order to stabilize the shape of each part when inflation is completed, inside the lower portion 18b of the base inflatable portion 18, the upper inflatable portion 29, and the lower inflatable portion 31, each Connects opposing portions in a thickness direction perpendicular to the axial direction in which the portions inflate into a substantially columnar shape (front-to-rear direction for the base expansion portion 18, and substantially vertical direction for the upper expansion portion 29 and the lower expansion portion 31). Connection pieces 37, 38, and 39 are provided, and in order to increase the reaction force when receiving the occupant OP, the hollow portion is formed so as not to widen the crossing angle θ0 between the upper inflatable portion 29 and the lower inflatable portion 31. A connecting piece 41 is provided on the side of 27 to connect the inner surfaces 29c and 30c of the upper expansion portion 29 and the lower expansion portion 31 with each other.

In the occupant protection system 10 of the first embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, when the airbag 16 is inflated by the inflation gas G discharged from the inflator 14 during operation, the airbag 16 serves as a storage portion on the roof 4 side. When the expansion is completed by deploying and inflating downward from the case 12, the base expansion portion 18 extends downward from the case 12, and the receiving expansion portion 22 protrudes rearward from the rear surface 20 side of the base expansion portion 18, The head H of the occupant OP moving forward is received by the receiving surface 24 near the rear end surface 23a of the receiving expansion portion 22 . At this time, the connection member 33 connected to the left and right sides of the airbag 16 deviated from the receiving surface 24 at the tip 34 side connects the base portion 35 side to the roof 4 side behind the receiving surface 24, The airbag 16 is held so as to suppress the forward movement of the anti-inflatable portion 22 , and the head H of the occupant OP is restrained from forward movement by the connecting member 33 without interfering with the connecting member 33 , so that the head H recoils. It is received by the receiving surface 24 of the receiving expanded portion 22 in a state of increased force. Further, the inflated receiving portion 22 has an inflated shape that separates the upper surface 22a side and the lower surface 22b side extending forward from the receiving surface 24 so as to open both up and down. The inflatable portion extending forward from 24 has a shape that widens the width dimension in the vertical direction, so that a high reaction force is generated as the receiving surface 24 moves forward, and the head H of the occupant OP has good cushioning properties. can accept and protect

Therefore, in the occupant protection device 10 of the first embodiment, the airbag 16 deployed downward from the roof 4 can stably receive and protect the head H of the occupant OP.

In the occupant protection device 10 of the first embodiment, the expansion receiving portion 22 at the time of completion of expansion has the upper surface 22a side and the lower surface 22b side with respect to the center line CX passing through the receiving surface 24 and extending in the front-rear direction. , are arranged so as to be substantially vertically symmetrical, and the front end (lower end) 31a extending downward on the side of the lower surface 22b is arranged near the front upper part of the knees K of the seated occupant OP. there is

Therefore, in the first embodiment, the receiving inflation portion 22 at the completion of inflation is arranged such that the upper surface 22a side and the lower surface 22b side are vertically symmetrically arranged, and the head of the occupant OP moving forward MH. When receiving H, the receiving surface 24 of the rear end portion 23 can be moved forward without being shifted vertically, and the head H of the occupant OP moving forward can be accurately received and protected. can. In addition, the receiving inflation portion 22 at the completion of inflation is arranged so that the front end 31a on the side of the lower surface 22b extends near the front and above the knees K of the seated occupant OP, and the head H of the occupant OP. The airbag 16 can be received and protected by the lower surface 22b side of the inflatable receiving portion 22, and the airbag 16 is supported by the inflatable receiving portion 22 for the head H and chest of the occupant OP moving forward. B's upper body UB can be favorably received and protected.

Furthermore, in the occupant protection device 10 of the first embodiment, the receiving inflation portion 22 of the airbag 16 when inflation is completed extends forward as a substantially columnar shape from the receiving surface 24 side, and penetrates between them in the left-right direction. A hollow portion 27 is provided, and an upper expansion portion 29 on the side of the upper surface 22a and a lower expansion portion 31 on the side of the lower surface 22b are arranged.

Therefore, in the first embodiment, the receiving inflation portion 22 is provided with a hollow portion 27 penetrating in the left-right direction. At least the amount of gas G supplied can complete the expansion quickly. Of course, even if the receiving inflation portion 22 of the airbag 16 is provided with the hollow portion 27, when the receiving inflation portion 22 receives the head H of the occupant OP with the receiving surface 24 of the rear end portion 23, Front ends 29a and 31a of a substantially columnar upper expansion portion 29 and a lower expansion portion 31 bifurcated vertically from near the receiving surface 24 of the rear end portion 23 are connected to the rear surface 20 side of the base expansion portion 18. The upper inflatable portion 29 and the lower inflatable portion 31 cooperate with each other (to bring the rear ends 29b and 31b closer to the front ends 29a and 31a), and extend substantially along the respective axial directions UX and LX. The rear end portion 23 of the receiving expansion portion 22 where the upper expansion portion 29 and the lower expansion portion 31 intersect can withstand the pressing force of the head H of the occupant OP moving forward. The receiving surface 24 can preferably receive and protect the head H of the occupant OP.

Furthermore, in the first embodiment, the connecting member 33 connects the tip 34 side to both the left and right sides of the lower end (front end) 31a of the lower inflation portion 31 when inflation is completed, and extends from the tip 34 side to the base portion 35 side. The direction SD is arranged so as to substantially follow the axial direction LX of the lower expansion portion 31 at the time of completion of expansion.

Therefore, in the first embodiment, even if the head H of the occupant OP moving forward increases the kinetic energy and moves in the obliquely downward direction MC (see FIG. 2), the receiving inflation portion of the airbag 16 A receiving surface 24 of 22 can accurately receive and protect. That is, the lower inflatable portion 31 at the completion of inflation has its lower end 31a side connected to the distal end 34 side of the connecting member 33 disposed substantially along the axial direction LX of the lower inflatable portion 31, When receiving the head H of the occupant OP on the receiving surface 24 side of the rear end 31b side that is the upper end side, the rear end 31b side on the receiving surface 24 side is moved along the axial direction LX to the lower end side, that is, When the front end 31a side is in a compressive deformation state (buckling deformation state) that approaches the front end 31a side, the connecting member 33 itself arranged along the axial direction LX of the lower expansion portion 31 is also directly pulled. Since the force can be exerted and countered, the lower inflation portion 31 can receive the head H of the occupant OP with a high reaction force. Therefore, even if the head H of the occupant OP moving forward increases its kinetic energy and moves in the obliquely downward direction MC, the receiving surface 24 of the receiving inflatable portion 22 of the airbag 16 can accurately You can accept it and protect it.

The upper inflatable portion 29 and the lower inflatable portion 31 of the receiving inflatable portion 22 cooperate with each other in the axial direction UX, so that the rear ends 29b and 31b are brought closer to the front ends 29a and 31a. If the head H of the occupant OP can be received by compressing and deforming it substantially along the LX, the connecting member 33A can be inflated like the occupant protection system 10A of the second embodiment shown in FIGS. The tip 34 side is connected to the vicinity of the upper end 31b away from the lower end 31a of the lower inflatable portion 31 without being along the axial direction LX of the lower inflatable portion 31 at the time of completion, and the base portion 35 side is received. It may be connected to the connection portion 7a of the mounting board 7 arranged in the vicinity of the upper portion of the head H of the seated occupant OP behind the surface 24 .

In the occupant protection device 10A of the second embodiment, the connection member 33A differs from the connection member 33 of the first embodiment only in the arrangement positions of the front end 34 side and the base portion 35 side, and other airbags are provided. 16, the inflator 14, the case 12, etc. are the same as those of the first embodiment, and the same effects as those of the first embodiment can be obtained.

As for the connecting members 33 and 33A that hold the airbag 16, as in the first and second embodiments, the tip 34 side is connected to the lower inflatable portion 31 side of the receiving inflatable portion 22. It may be connected to the side surfaces 16a and 16b of the base inflatable portion 18 on the lower portion 18b side, or may be connected to the left and right side surfaces 16a and 16b on the front side near the rear end 29b of the upper inflatable portion 29 side.

In addition, the upper inflatable portion 29 and the lower inflatable portion 31 of the receiving inflatable portion 22 cooperate to move the head H of the occupant OP moving forward (both rear ends 29b and 31b toward the front ends 29a and 31a). In the case of compressing and deforming along the respective axial directions UX and LX so as to approach each other, the upper inflating portion 29 and the lower inflating portion 31 mutually form an approximately isosceles triangular shape. It is desirable that two sides of the same length are arranged. Furthermore, if the crossing angle θ0 of the mutual axial directions UX and LX is too small, it may cause vertical variation of the occupant's head H moving forward. If it is difficult to deal with and if it is too large, the upper expansion portion 29 and the lower expansion portion 31 may undergo bending deformation with a low reaction force instead of compressive deformation. It is desirable to be within the range.

Further, if the reduction of the airbag volume is not taken into consideration, the upper and lower surfaces of the receiving inflation portion 22 are simply expanded forward so that the hollow portion 27 of the airbag 16 is not provided. The airbag may be configured by securing a state of being in a straight line and protruding rearward from the base inflatable portion 18 in a substantially triangular prism shape or a substantially semi-cylindrical shape with the axial direction along the left-right direction.
