細孔直径分布測定装置パームポロメーター(米国PMI社製、型番:CFP-1200A)を用い、測定液(米国PMI社製、商品名:SILWICK)に浸したサンプル(測定面積はφ16mm程度)に圧力を加えていき、湿潤状態の空気流量と乾燥状態の空気流量を測定した。

15μm以上の気孔径割合が20%程度の比較例1で製造したコーヒー濾紙を用いて抽出したコーヒー飲料は、15μm以上の粒子径の粒子数が少なく、風味が薄かった。また、比較例1で製造したコーヒー濾紙は、濾水性が低く、コーヒー飲料の濾過時間が他に比べて長かった。30μm以上の気孔径割合が25%程度の比較例2で製造したコーヒー濾紙を用いて抽出したコーヒー飲料は、30μm以上の粒子径の粒子数が多く、雑味が強かった。

それに対し、15μm以上の気孔径割合が70%程度、かつ、30μm以上の気孔径割合が20%程度である実施例3及び5で製造したコーヒー濾紙を用いて抽出したコーヒー飲料は、30μm以上の粒子径の粒子数がやや多いものの、風味は濃く、雑味は若干ある程度であった。15μm以上の気孔径割合が45%程度、かつ、30μm以上の気孔径割合が5%程度である実施例4で製造したコーヒー濾紙を用いて抽出したコーヒー飲料は、15μm以上の粒子径の粒子数がやや少ないものの、風味は若干薄い程度で、雑味は少なかった。
さらに、15μm以上の気孔径割合が60%程度、かつ、30μm以上の気孔径割合が15%程度である実施例1及び2で製造したコーヒー濾紙を用いて抽出したコーヒー飲料は、15μm及び30μm以上の粒子径の粒子数は多すぎず少なすぎず、風味は濃く、雑味は少なく、美味しいコーヒーであった。
