Description
画素輝度データPLDは、レッド、グリーン、ブルー、及びホワイト重み付け値RWT、GWT、BWT、WWTが掛けれたレッド、グリーン、ブルー、及びホワイトデータRw、Gw、Bw、Wwのデータ値の中で最大値である。例えば、各ピクセルユニットPXUのレッド、グリーン、ブルー、及びホワイト画素Rx、Gx、Bx、Wxに対応するレッド、グリーン、ブルー、及びホワイトデータRw、Gw、Bw、Wwの中で最大値が画素輝度データPLDである。即ち、画素輝度データPLDは、各画素ユニットPXUに対応する映像信号のデータ値の中で最大値として定義される。
図7を参照すれば、輝度レベル決定部1523は、i番目のビンiが最大ビン(i=15)から所定の輝度レベル値を含むビンまでの区間として定義されるビン重み付け値区間に該当する場合、i番目のビンiの値にビン重み付け値W1、W2、W3、W4を掛け、上位ビンから下位ビンに移動し、i+1番目のビンi+1の値をi番目のビンiに蓄積させる。

Claims (10)
- 複数の画素ユニットが配置された表示パネルと、
前記表示パネルに光を提供するバックライトと、
映像信号を受信して前記画素ユニットに提供し、前記バックライトの前記光の輝度を制御するデータ処理回路と、を含み、
前記データ処理回路は、
入力された映像信号を表示装置に適合な映像信号に変換して出力するデータ処理部及び前記バックライトの輝度レベルを決定するバックライト輝度制御部を含み、
前記バックライト輝度制御部は、
前記データ処理部において前記表示装置の色域にマッピングされた映像信号であって前記各画素ユニットに対応する映像信号のデータ値の中で最大値として定義される画素輝度データを受信し、前記バックライトに対する輝度レベルを所定の数のビンに分離し、前記各ビンのレベル範囲に含まれる画素輝度データをカウンティングし、各ビンを輝度レベルに対して昇順で並べるヒストグラム分析部と、
最大ビンから所定の輝度レベル値を含むビンまでの区間として定義されるビン重み付け値区間に該当する各ビンの値に対し、それぞれ対応するビン重み付け値を掛けた後、最大ビンから順に、i番目以上のビンの値を蓄積した値と閾値とを比較する動作を行う輝度レベル決定部と、を含み、
前記輝度レベル決定部は、前記蓄積した値が閾値より大きい場合、前記i番目のビンの値に該当する輝度レベルを利用して前記バックライトの前記輝度レベルを決定し、
前記最大ビンに掛けられる最大ビン重み付け値は、前記表示装置の使用者が映像を視認するための最小数の画素ユニットとして定義される最小視認画素の数に前記最大ビン重み付け値を掛けた値が前記閾値より大きくなるように設定される表示装置。 - 前記データ処理部は、
前記映像信号を受信して線形化させる入力ガンマ部と、
前記線形化された映像信号を前記表示装置に表示するための映像信号の色域にマッピングする色域マッピング部と、
前記色域マッピング部でマッピングされた映像信号の中で前記バックライト輝度制御部で決定された輝度レベルに対応する色域を外れる映像信号を前記輝度レベルに対応する色域範囲内に変換するクランピング部と、
前記クランピング部で変換された映像信号を受信して前記画素ユニットの画素に対応する映像信号にレンダリングするサブ画素レンダリング部と、
前記レンダリングされた映像信号を受信して逆ガンマ補正を遂行する出力ガンマ部と、を含む請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記輝度レベル決定部は、前記i番目のビンの値が前記閾値を超えない場合、前記iを1減少させて下位ビンに移動し、前記動作を行う請求項1又は2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記ビン重み付け値の値は、1より大きい請求項1乃至3のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記ビン重み付け値の値は、前記ビン重み付け値区間で最大ビンから最小ビンに行くほど、小さくなる請求項1乃至4のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記バックライト輝度制御部は、
前記データ処理部において前記表示装置の色域にマッピングされた映像信号に重み付け値を掛け、前記重み付け値が掛けられた映像信号の中で前記画素輝度データを決定して前記輝度レベル決定部に提供する色加重部と、
前記輝度レベル決定部で決定された輝度レベルを以前フレームの輝度値と現在フレームの輝度値との中間値に補正して出力するスムージング部と、をさらに含む請求項1乃至5のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。 - 複数の画素ユニットに提供されるための映像信号を表示装置の色域にマッピングする段階と、
バックライトの輝度レベルを前記マッピングされた映像信号を利用して設定する段階と、
設定された前記輝度レベルに対応する光を生成して前記画素ユニットに提供する段階と、を含み、
前記バックライトの輝度レベルを設定する段階は、
前記マッピングされた映像信号であって前記各画素ユニットに対応する映像信号のデータ値の最大値として定義される画素輝度データを受信する段階と、
前記バックライトに対する輝度レベルを所定の数のビンに分離し、前記各ビンのレベル範囲に含まれる画素輝度データをカウンティングし、各ビンを輝度レベルに対して昇順で並べる段階と、
最大ビンから所定の輝度レベル値を含むビンまでの区間として定義されるビン重み付け値区間に該当する各ビンの値に対し、それぞれ対応するビン重み付け値を掛ける段階と、
前記ビン重み付け値を掛けた後、i番目のビンより上位のビンの値をi番目のビンの値に蓄積させた値と閾値とを比較する動作を行う段階と、
前記蓄積させた値が閾値より大きい場合、前記i番目のビンの値に該当する輝度レベルを利用して前記バックライトの前記輝度レベルを決定する段階と、
前記i番目のビンの値が前記閾値より小さいか、或いは同じである場合、前記iを1減少させて前記i番目のビンの値に前記ビン重み付け値を掛ける段階に進行する段階と、を含み、
前記最大ビンに掛けられる最大ビン重み付け値は、使用者が映像を視認するための最小数の画素ユニットとして定義される最小視認画素の数に前記最大ビン重み付け値を掛けた値が前記閾値より大きくなるように設定される表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記マッピングする段階は、
前記映像信号を受信して線形化させる段階と、
前記線形化された映像信号を前記表示装置に表示するための映像信号の色域にマッピングする段階と、
前記マッピングされた映像信号の前記バックライトの輝度レベルを設定する段階で決定された輝度レベルに対応する色域を外れる映像信号を前記輝度レベルに対応する色域範囲内に変換する段階と、
前記変換された映像信号を受信して前記画素ユニットの画素に対応する映像信号にレンダリングする段階と、
前記レンダリングされた映像信号を受信して逆ガンマ補正を遂行する段階と、を含む請求項7に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記ビン重み付け値の値は、1より大きく、前記ビン重み付け値区間で最大ビンから最小ビンに行くほど、小さくなる請求項7又は8に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記バックライトの輝度レベルを設定する段階は、
前記マッピングされた映像信号に重み付け値を掛け、前記重み付け値が掛けられた映像信号の前記画素輝度データを決定する段階と、
前記決定された輝度レベルを以前フレームの輝度値と現在フレームの輝度値との中間値に補正して出力する段階と、をさらに含む請求項7乃至9のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。
