Description
The present invention relates to an improvement of an energy absorbing type intermediate shaft among intermediate shafts constituting an automobile steering device, which protects the driver by bending while absorbing impact energy in the event of a collision.
As shown in FIG. 12, in the automobile steering device, the movement of the steering wheel 1 operated by the driver is controlled by a plurality of shafts such as the
The energy absorption type intermediate shaft of the conventional structure described in Patent Document 1 is configured by serration-engaging one end in the axial direction of the outer tube and the other end in the axial direction of the inner shaft so as not to rotate relative to each other. ing. Further, in the intermediate portion in the axial direction of the inner shaft, a constricted portion having a smaller cross-sectional area than other portions that are fragile portions is formed. Then, in a state of straddling this constricted portion, a protective tube is externally fitted in the axial intermediate portion of the inner shaft. Both ends of the protective tube in the axial direction can transmit torque to the parts of the inner shaft adjacent to both sides in the axial direction of the constricted portion, and in a steady state (a state in which a collision accident has not occurred), a relative displacement in the axial direction is applied. It is impossible to fit outside. As a result, in the steady state, most of the steering torque is transmitted by the protective tube so that a large stress is not applied to the constricted portion due to steering.
In the present specification and claims, unless otherwise specified, the axial direction and the radial direction refer to the axial direction and the radial direction with respect to the intermediate shaft.
In the event of a collision, a strong axial compressive force acts on the intermediate shaft, causing the outer tube and inner shaft to be displaced relative to each other in the axial direction. Based on this, a strong force acts from the outer tube toward the one end side in the axial direction to the protective tube, and the protective tube is retracted from the periphery of the constricted portion. Then, at a position where the axial other end edge of the protective tube exists on the radial outer side of the constricted portion, the axial one end of the protective tube abuts against the end face of the yoke fixed to the axial end of the inner shaft. Further relative displacement of the protective tube in the axial direction is prevented. Then, when a compressive force is further applied to the intermediate shaft in such a state, the inner shaft bends starting from the constricted portion. As a result, the energy based on the collision is absorbed and the impact applied to the driver's body is alleviated.
By the way, in the case of the intermediate shaft having the conventional structure as described above, both ends in the axial direction of the protective tube can transmit torque to the portions of the inner shaft adjacent to both sides in the axial direction of the constricted portion by serration engagement or the like. In addition to being engaged, relative displacement in the axial direction is impossible and fixed without rattling due to press fitting or the like. However, for example, due to a large torque input to the inner shaft due to an accident such as the wheel riding on a rim stone, both ends of the protective tube in the axial direction and the inner shaft adjacent to both sides of the constricted portion in the axial direction. When the fitting force of the wheel is reduced, a force such as steering torque is not transmitted through the protective tube, and a large torsional torque or an axial force acts directly on the constricted portion. If the use is continued in such a state, the constricted portion may be broken. Then, if half of the divided inner shaft comes out of the protective tube, torque transmission by the intermediate shaft may become impossible.
In view of such circumstances, the present invention is invented in order to realize a structure capable of preventing torque transmission by the intermediate shaft from becoming impossible even when a fragile portion such as a constricted portion provided on the inner shaft is broken. It was done.
The intermediate shaft of the present invention includes an inner shaft, an outer tube, a protective tube, and a pair of first stoppers.
Of these, the inner shaft is fragile, such as a constricted portion, for example, the entire inner shaft is configured in a solid shaft shape, and the cross-sectional area is sufficiently smaller than the other parts of the inner shaft in the intermediate portion in the axial direction. Has a part.
Further, the outer tube is formed in a hollow tubular shape as a whole, and the other end side portion in the axial direction of the inner shaft is inserted (internally fitted) into the one end side portion in the axial direction so as not to rotate relative to each other.
The protective tube is, for example, entirely formed in a hollow tubular shape, and in a state of straddling the fragile portion, a portion of the inner shaft adjacent to both sides of the fragile portion in the axial direction (a shaft sandwiching the fragile portion). Torque can be transmitted to both sides in the direction), and in a steady state, relative displacement in the axial direction is impossible and rattling is fitted by, for example, press fitting or elliptical fitting.
The pair of first stoppers are provided on both sides of the fragile portion in the axial direction, and the inner shaft is provided except when a force directed toward one end side in the axial direction is applied from the outer tube to the protective tube. And the relative displacement with respect to the protective tube in the axial direction are limited (the relative displacement amount is suppressed to zero or slightly).
In the intermediate shaft of the present invention, the other end side portion in the axial direction of the inner shaft and the one end side portion in the axial direction of the outer tube are loosened so as to enable relative displacement in the axial direction (so that the relative displacement in the axial direction is not limited). ) Engagement.
When carrying out the present invention, the first stopper is attached to one member (inner shaft or protective tube) of the inner shaft, which is adjacent to both sides of the fragile portion in the axial direction and the protective tube. A structure in which the other member (protective tube or inner shaft) is engaged with the other member (protective tube or inner shaft) so that the relative displacement of the inner shaft and the protective tube in the axial direction is impossible or only a slight relative displacement is possible. Can be adopted.
Further, the first stopper is at least when a force directed toward one end side in the axial direction is applied from the outer tube to the protective tube based on the relative displacement of the inner shaft and the outer tube in the axial direction. It is allowed that the protective tube is displaced relative to one end side in the axial direction with respect to the inner shaft by separating from the other member or tearing (breaking) between the inner shaft and the protective tube. Can be adopted.
Further, when carrying out the present invention, the shape of the first stopper and its mounting structure are not particularly limited.
For example, as the first stopper, a retaining ring having a substantially U-shape or a substantially V-shape or a rod-shaped (shaft-shaped) retaining pin can be adopted.
When a substantially U-shaped retaining ring is used as the first stopper, the retaining ring is used at both ends of the protective tube in the axial direction, which are adjacent to both sides of the fragile portion in the axial direction of the inner shaft. In a state of being locked to the notch formed in the outerly fitted portion, a part of the retaining ring is applied to the concave portion formed on the outer peripheral surface of the portion of the inner shaft adjacent to both sides in the axial direction of the fragile portion. , It is possible to adopt a structure in which the relative displacement of the inner shaft and the protective tube in the axial direction is impossiblely engaged without a gap (without rattling) or a slight relative displacement in the axial direction is allowed to be loosely engaged. ..
On the contrary, in a state where the retaining ring is locked in the recess formed on the outer peripheral surface of the portion of the inner shaft adjacent to both sides in the axial direction of the fragile portion, a part of the retaining ring is attached to the protective tube. A structure in which the inner shaft and the protective tube are loosely engaged with the notches formed at both ends in the axial direction so that the relative displacement in the axial direction is impossible without a gap or a slight relative displacement in the axial direction is possible. It can also be adopted.
Further, when the present invention is carried out, for example, at a position where the axially other end edge portion of the protective tube exists on the inner shaft in the radial direction of the fragile portion, the axial direction of the protective tube with respect to the inner shaft. A second stopper can be provided to prevent the relative displacement to one end side.
Such a second stopper can be separated from the inner shaft and fixed to the inner shaft, or can be provided integrally with the inner shaft, for example.
When the second stopper is provided separately from the inner shaft, the shape of the second stopper and its fixing structure and fixing position are not particularly limited.
For example, as the second stopper, an annular or missing annular retaining ring can be used, and a structure can be adopted in which relative displacement to at least one end side in the axial direction is impossible to be fixed with respect to the outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft. Alternatively, a rod-shaped (shaft-shaped) stop pin is used as the second stopper, and the axial end portion (one end or both ends) of the stop pin is formed in the mounting hole formed so as to open on the outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft. ) Can be inserted while protruding to the outside.
Further, the second stopper can be fixed to one end side in the axial direction with respect to the protective tube in a steady state, or can be fixed at a position consistent with the protective tube in the axial direction.
Further, when the second stopper is provided integrally with the inner shaft, for example, on the outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft, a portion where a male serration groove is provided and a portion where the male serration groove is not provided (a portion having a lower diameter remains). ) Can be used as the second stopper, and the stepped surface formed by stepping the outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft can be used as the second stopper.
Further, when the present invention is carried out, for example, in the assembled state with the vehicle body, the other end side portion in the axial direction of the inner shaft is arranged below the one end side portion in the axial direction of the inner shaft in the vertical direction. You can also do things. In other words, the inner shaft can be arranged on the upper side and the outer tube can be arranged on the lower side.
Compressive force before Symbol intermediate shaft to a predetermined value or more in size, that is, during a collision, out of the inner shaft and the outer tube, the compressive force due to fact that the member which is disposed below pushed up is applied Only in this case, it is possible to adopt a configuration in which the relative displacement of the inner shaft on the other end side in the axial direction and the one end side portion in the axial direction of the outer tube in the axial direction is possible.
In this case, for example, a cross section is not formed on a part of the outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft in the axial direction and a part of the inner peripheral surface of the outer tube in the axial direction, which form a fitting portion between the inner shaft and the outer tube. A circular plastic deformation portion can be provided respectively.
To provide such a plastically deformed portion, for example, after slightly inserting the axial end portion of the inner shaft into the axial end portion of the outer tube, the axial end portion of the outer tube has a diameter of the outer tube. By crushing from the outside in the direction, the inner peripheral surface of one end in the axial direction of the outer tube and the outer peripheral surface of the other end in the axial direction of the inner shaft are plastically deformed into, for example, an elliptical cross section. After that, the outer tube and the inner shaft are displaced relative to each other in the axial direction so as to shorten the total length of the intermediate shaft, and the plastic deformed portion of the outer tube and the plastic deformed portion of the inner shaft are separated in the axial direction. And place it.
Among the fitting portions of the outer tube and the inner shaft formed in this way, those having an elliptical shape of the plastically deformed portion are described in, for example,
According to the present invention having the above-described configuration, it is possible to prevent torque transmission by the intermediate shaft from becoming impossible even when the fragile portion provided on the inner shaft is broken.
[First Example of Embodiment]
The first example of the embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 8. Similar to the structure shown in FIG. 12, the
The
For this reason, a
The
An axially intermediate portion of the
Further, a
Locking
Further, the other
In the case of this example, the first retaining rings 19a and 19b corresponding to the first stopper described in the claims are locked to the
Further, in a state where the first retaining rings 19a and 19b are locked to the
In the case of this example, in a steady state, the
Further, the first retaining rings 19a and 19b of this example are on the lower side of the
For example, when the fitting force by the fixing means 23a and 23b decreases due to a large torque input to the
Here, consider a case where the fitting force by the fixing means 23b between the portion adjacent to the other end side (right side in FIG. 5) of the constricted portion 7 in the axial direction and the
On the other hand, consider a case where the fitting force by the fixing means 23a between the portion adjacent to one end side (left side in FIG. 5) of the constricted portion 7 in the axial direction and the

Next, the case where a collision accident occurs will be described over time with reference to FIGS. 6 to 8. When a collision accident occurs, a compressive force acts in the direction of bringing the pair of
As the relative displacement between the
As the relative displacement of the protective tube 14 (and the outer tube 8) toward one end in the axial direction progresses, the
When a compressive force is further applied to the

As described above, in the case of this example, since the first retaining rings 19a and 19b are provided on both side portions of the constricted portion 7 in the axial direction, the one end side in the axial direction and the other end side in the axial direction of the constricted portion 7 are provided.

When the present invention is carried out, the shapes of the first stopper and the second stopper and the supporting structure thereof are not limited to those described in each example of the above-described embodiment, and the functions of the first stopper and the second stopper are used. As long as it can be exhibited, its shape and support structure can be changed as appropriate. For example, the first stopper (first retaining ring) can be supported without rattling against the recess provided in the inner shaft and the notch provided in the protective tube. Further, for example, a rod-shaped retaining ring can be used instead of the first retaining ring. In this case, it is possible to form a locking through hole in the protective tube and a holding hole in the inner shaft so that the inner shaft can be tightened and fitted. Further, when carrying out the present invention, the other end edge portion of the protective tube in the axial direction may exist on this virtual plane without being inclined with respect to the virtual plane orthogonal to the central axis of the protective tube. ..
