Description
The present invention relates to an intermediate transfer belt in electrophotography.
In an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, in order to stably obtain a high-quality image, a toner image serving as a density reference is formed on an intermediate transfer belt, and control is performed to correct development conditions that affect the image by the density of the toner image. Is going. The toner density is detected by irradiating light on the toner image portion and the surface of the intermediate transfer belt with a light emitting element or the like, and detecting a difference in reflected light. For this reason, the greater the amount of light reflected from the intermediate transfer belt, the wider the dynamic range of the presence / absence of the toner image, and as a result, the accuracy of density detection is improved. For this reason, the intermediate transfer belt is required to have high surface gloss.
As the intermediate transfer belt material, a thermosetting resin typified by polyimide or a thermoplastic resin such as PEEK or PVdF is used. However, the polyimide material is expensive and has low workability and productivity, and parts cost. Becomes higher.
On the other hand, the thermoplastic resin has a low material unit price and has an advantage that it can be easily molded by extrusion molding. In the extrusion molding of thermoplastic resin, the glossiness of the belt surface is determined by the surface roughness and refractive index of the belt. The surface roughness of the belt is affected by the melt viscosity of the material and the surface roughness of the mold. Are known. Therefore, in order to improve the glossiness of the thermoplastic resin belt surface, it is necessary to lower the surface roughness of the belt by mirroring or polishing the surface of the mold, or to increase the refractive index of the material. That is already known. In addition, it is already known to improve a laminated structure.
However, conventional intermediate transfer belts using a fluoro-based thermoplastic resin have the advantage that the toner component does not easily adhere to the belt surface because of its high surface releasability due to its low surface energy. The fluororesin tends to have a low gloss as a material because of its low molecular refraction, and as described above, it is necessary to improve the low gloss by reducing the surface roughness by polishing or a laminated structure. For this reason, there was a problem that the number of processes increased and the cost was increased, making it difficult to take advantage of the low cost characteristics of the thermoplastic resin.
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2009-025422 of Patent Document 1 provides a multilayer elastic belt having surface elasticity, sufficient releasability and glossiness, high film thickness and surface accuracy, and excellent transfer efficiency. For this purpose, an intermediate transfer belt having a laminated structure in which a fluororesin is disposed on the surface layer is disclosed.
However, the technique described in JP 2009-025422 is a multilayer elastic belt comprising at least four layers in the order of a surface layer, a fluororubber layer, an elastic layer, and a base material layer, and can be manufactured easily and at low cost. This problem has not been solved.
On the other hand, for a seamless intermediate transfer belt using a thermoplastic resin, a system in which an electron conductive material such as carbon black or metal oxide is added to the resin has been studied. Seamless belts with the addition of these electron-conducting materials have the feature that there is little change in electrical resistance against changes in the usage environment, but they are made conductive by the physical contact of the electron-conducting material. Dispersion of the electron conductive material in the resin is particularly important, and there is a problem that the electric resistance varies greatly depending on slight processing conditions and addition amount, and the electric resistance varies greatly depending on the position even in the same seamless belt. In addition, there is a problem that the electrical resistance changes greatly due to repeated voltage application.
A seamless belt obtained from a composition in which an ion conductive material such as a polyether-based resin is blended with a resin is also known.
The seamless belt thus obtained has a feature that variation in electric resistance is small, but there is a problem that electric resistance is highly dependent on the environment. Further, in order to obtain a semiconductive region required for the intermediate transfer belt, it is necessary to add a large amount of ion conductive material.
As described above, it is already known that the electron conductive material and the ion conductive material have the above-described characteristics with respect to the electric resistance.
However, conventional intermediate transfer belts using thermoplastic resins have increased the amount of ion conductive material having a polyether structure in order to adjust resistance in the semiconductive region. There has been a problem that metal salts or the like that are originally dissolved in the ion conductive material bleed on the surface, causing phenomena such as toner filming and photoconductor contamination. This problem is often caused particularly in a high temperature and high humidity environment.
The ion conductive material rich in the polyether structure is amorphous and thus has a high light transmittance. Also, the ether oxygen atoms are present in a high density, or the light refractive index is high. This greatly contributes to the gloss improvement of the transfer belt.
An object of the present invention is to improve gloss easily and at low cost without requiring polishing or a laminated structure even with a fluorine-based thermoplastic resin such as PVdF having a low refractive index.
The object is selected from the group consisting of (1) “a thermoplastic resin having at least a vinylidene difluoride (VdF) structure” and a conductive filler and comprising a wax material and a conductive polymer material. The intermediate transfer belt is characterized in that it contains a smooth material on a smooth surface.
According to the present invention, a very excellent effect that a wax material can be produced even with a thermoplastic resin such as PVdF having a low refractive index is exhibited.
That is, when a compound kneaded by mixing a high refractive index wax such as a paraffin type together with a thermoplastic resin as a main component is extruded, a wax component is formed on the surface of the belt after molding using the ease of blooming. Since it is exposed on the surface, the gloss can be improved.
Furthermore, since the releasability is expressed by the effect of the wax component exposed on the surface, filming on the belt surface accompanying durability can be suppressed, and quality changes accompanying durability such as transfer efficiency can be reduced.
When an ion conductive polymer having a high refractive index is used, the thermoplastic resin can be segregated on the belt surface side due to the difference in melt viscosity between the thermoplastic resin such as PVdF and the conductive polymer. In addition, the gloss can be improved by, for example, performing a polishing process so that at least a part of the polymer is exposed on the belt surface.

An image forming apparatus characterized by the above. "
As described above, the present invention has the following characteristics when imparting glossiness to the intermediate transfer belt.
In short, extruding a compound kneaded by mixing high-refractive index wax such as paraffin and conductive polymer (for example, ionic conductive polymer) together with the main component thermoplastic resin, it is easy to bloom and melt. Since the wax component and the conductive polymer are present (exposed to the surface) on the surface of the belt after molding by utilizing the difference in viscosity, the gloss can be improved.
Furthermore, since the releasability is expressed by the effect of the wax component exposed on the surface, filming on the belt surface accompanying durability can be suppressed, and quality changes accompanying durability such as transfer efficiency can be reduced. It is one feature.
The intermediate transfer belt containing such a wax material preferably has a surface contact angle with water of 80 ° to 120 °.
Further, the wax material, those intensity ratio of the peak derived from the wax by ATR method (2850 cm -1 vicinity) and VdF-derived peak (1180 cm -1 vicinity) is 0.01 to 0.03, more preferred . When the peak intensity ratio is within this range, it is highly glossy and can exhibit releasability with respect to toner, and filming associated with durability can be suppressed, so that stable quality can be ensured through increased durability.
It is preferable that 1 to 2.5 wt% of the wax is contained in the intermediate transfer belt. Such wax may be one or more selected from the group of plant-derived wax, petroleum-derived wax, and synthetic wax.
The plant-derived wax is preferably carnauba wax or rice wax, the petroleum-derived wax is preferably paraffin wax, and the synthetic wax is preferably polyethylene wax or polypropylene wax.
In addition, in the case of an intermediate transfer belt made of a thermoplastic resin containing an ionic conductive material, in addition to improving gloss, it exhibits resistance characteristics in a semiconductive region, and also has excellent bleeding properties such as photoconductor contamination. Is mentioned as a feature point.
The wax material and the conductive polymer material may be used alone or in combination.
That is, when a compound obtained by mixing and kneading a polyether-based ionic conductive material together with a thermoplastic resin as a main component is extruded and molded, the ionic conductive material tends to segregate on the belt surface due to a difference in melt viscosity ( FIG. 1). In this state, since there is a resin component film on the surface of the ion conductive material, the electrical resistance in the semiconductive region cannot be adjusted unless the addition amount of the ion conductive material is increased during compounding.
However, since the conductivity can be improved by scraping the resin component film by buffing to expose the ion conductive material on the surface, the amount of ion conductive material added is small enough to ensure bleed-out resistance. However, the electrical resistance of the semiconductive region can be shown (FIG. 2).
The ion conductive material is segregated on the belt surface. In this case, since the resin component film is present on the ion conductive material and the conductivity is hindered, the ion conductive material is further segregated on the belt surface by increasing the amount of the ion conductive material added to reduce the resistance. There is a need.
By polishing the surface from the state of FIG. 1 (FIG. 2), the ion conductive material is exposed on the belt surface. In this case, since the resin component film is scraped off unlike FIG. 1, the conductivity can be improved even when the amount of the ion conductive material added is small.

Moreover, what inserted the polyvalent metal ion in the matrix of a polyoxyethylene type chain | strand (for example, PEL series by Nippon Carlit Co., Ltd.) etc. can be mentioned.
Of these, those having a structure of a polyether ester amide or a block copolymer of polyether and olefin are particularly preferable.

The ion conductive material is preferably contained in the intermediate transfer belt in an amount of 3 to 5 wt%.
Further, the surface resistivity is preferably 10.7 to 11.8 Log [Ω / □] (500 V).
