Description
The present invention relates to a two-dimensional scanning device using an optical deflection liquid crystal element that changes the traveling direction of light, and an imaging device.
In order to prevent the failure of photography due to camera shake, a camera having a camera shake correction function has been developed. Camera shake correction methods can be broadly classified as a gimbal mechanical system that adjusts the position of the lens system (see, for example, Patent Document 1), or an active prism system that adjusts the optical axis by changing the apex angle of the prism (for example, Patent Document 2). Or an optical camera shake correction method such as a CCD shift method (see, for example, Patent Document 3) that moves the position of the image sensor along the optical axis, and an electronic hand that electronically corrects stored image information. A blur correction method (see, for example, Patent Document 4) has been proposed.
In the optical camera shake correction method, camera shake correction is performed by precisely adjusting an optical component or an image sensor by a mechanical drive system, so that the structure is complicated and power consumption is increased. . In addition, the electronic camera shake correction method often involves problems such as image degradation, image size reduction, and missing image information.

FIG. 3 is a schematic plan view of the
After pressing and allowing to stand for 1 minute or more to sufficiently spread the UV curable resin, the UV curable resin was cured by irradiating ultraviolet rays from the back side of the glass substrate 1 through the quartz member. The irradiation amount of ultraviolet rays was 20 J / cm 2 . What is necessary is just to set suitably the irradiation amount of an ultraviolet-ray so that resin may harden | cure. In addition, since ITO absorbs ultraviolet rays, if the film thickness of the transparent electrode is changed, it is necessary to change the ultraviolet irradiation amount. Note that a minute groove for air bleeding may be formed on the prism forming die. Further, the mold and the substrate may be superposed in a vacuum.

Returning to FIG. 2, the description will be continued. Next, the

As will be described later, in the light deflection liquid crystal cell according to the present invention, the light deflection is controlled by the difference in refractive index between the liquid crystal layer and the prism layer. Therefore, the cell thickness is not particularly important, and the gap control agent is not limited thereto. . Although not formed here, the vertical alignment film 4 may be formed on the

A liquid crystal material for forming the
Moreover, the mixed monomer which mixed the monofunctional material and the bifunctional material was added as a photopolymerizable monomer. Specifically, 2-ethylhexylacrylate (EHA) (manufactured by Aldrich) was used as the monofunctional material, and RM257 (manufactured by Merck) was used as the bifunctional material, and these were mixed at a molar ratio of 70:30. .
In addition, 2,2-dimethyl-2-phenylacetophenone (DMPDP) was used as a photopolymerization initiator, and this was added so as to be 5 mol% with respect to the mixed monomer.
A photopolymerizable mixed monomer to which a photopolymerization initiator was added was added so as to be 8 mol% with respect to the mixed liquid crystal to which a chiral agent was added, thereby preparing a liquid crystal material for forming the
When the liquid crystal cell thus formed was heated, a blue phase was exhibited in a narrow temperature range around 60 ° C. While maintaining the temperature showing the blue phase, the liquid crystal cell was irradiated with ultraviolet rays to polymerize the photopolymerizable monomer to form a polymer network, thereby stabilizing the polymer of the blue phase.
In the ultraviolet irradiation, first, an irradiation sequence in which irradiation is performed for 1 second and no irradiation for 10 seconds is repeated 10 times. And after intermittent irradiation, continuous irradiation for 3 minutes was performed. The ultraviolet intensity was 30 mW / cm 2 (365 nm). The exposure conditions are not limited to this, and for example, the ultraviolet intensity can be further reduced. However, the time required for photopolymerization becomes longer.
The liquid crystal cell subjected to the polymer stabilization treatment exhibited a blue phase in a wide temperature range of about −5 ° C. to 60 ° C. It should be noted that the temperature range showing the blue phase by the polymer stabilization treatment can be further expanded by adjusting the liquid crystal material used, the mixing ratio thereof, the polymerization conditions, and the like.
As described above, the light deflection
The light deflection
The blue phase is optically isotropic, blue phase I having body-centered cubic symmetry, blue phase II having simple cubic symmetry, and blue phase III having isotropic symmetry. There are types. Blue phase I appears on the coldest side and blue phase III appears on the hottest side. The light deflection
Since the blue phase is optically isotropic, the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer viewed from the normal direction of the substrate is an average of the ordinary ray refractive index (no) and the extraordinary ray refractive index (ne) of the liquid crystal material. Value ((2no + ne) / 3), which is the same for both polarization components orthogonal to each other of light traveling in the normal direction of the substrate.
On the other hand, in the light deflection
In the case of the liquid crystal material used in the first embodiment, the ordinary ray refractive index (no) is about 1.521 and the extraordinary light refractive index (ne) is about 1.68. The refractive index at the time ((2no + ne) / 3) is about 1.574. On the other hand, the refractive index of the prism material is 1.548, which is about the middle of the refractive index value of the liquid crystal material. That is, in the case of the first embodiment, the average value of the extraordinary refractive index (ne) and the ordinary refractive index (no) ((ne + 2no) / 3) and the ordinary refractive index (no). The value is set to be substantially the same as the refractive index of the
Next, the present inventor conducted an experiment in which the light deflection

In FIG. 4, an optical system including
In this experiment, the prism length direction of the light deflection
In this experiment, the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer 15 (liquid crystal material) changed substantially in proportion to the square of the electric field strength, and saturation was observed at an applied voltage of about 90 V (driving frequency 1 KHz). Moreover, the refractive index changed with almost no threshold with respect to the change of the applied voltage. When the applied voltages of 0 V and 90 V were the total OFF voltage and the total ON voltage, respectively, it was confirmed that when the voltage was about 64 V, the light traveled straight without being bent. Further, when the response speed was measured, it was about 200 μsec at the rise and about 18 μsec (room temperature) at the fall when all the OFF voltages and all the ON voltages were applied. Therefore, it is considered that the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer gradually rise from the blue phase when no voltage is applied to the substrate in the vertical direction by voltage application, and almost completely rise at the applied voltage of about 90 V to become a homeotropic phase. It is done. The light deflecting
As described above, the response speed by voltage application of the light deflection

As described above, the refractive index of the light deflecting
The arrangement relationship of the light deflection
例えば、テレビ受信機におけるNTSC(National Television System Committee)方式の垂直同期周波数は60Hz(およそ16.6msec)であり、人間の目は連続して切り替わる静止画を残像効果により動画として認識する。 It will be possible to divert the optical system in the experiment described above directly to a projection type projector. The temporal resolution of the human eye is said to be approximately 50 msec or more, and blinking of light shorter than this time is perceived as being continuously lit by the human eye (afterimage effect). For example, the vertical synchronization frequency of the NTSC (National Television System Committee) system in a television receiver is 60 Hz (approximately 16.6 msec), and the human eye recognizes a still image that switches continuously as a moving image by the afterimage effect. When the vertical synchronization frequency of the NTSC system is used as a reference, the response speed of the light deflection liquid crystal cell in the present invention is about 200 μsec, so that human eyes perceive about 80 projection lights as if they are lit simultaneously. Is possible. Therefore, if the light deflecting liquid crystal element of the present invention is used, a simple projection type projector that displays characters such as numbers with a small amount of information can be configured. In the future, if the manufacturing conditions of the light deflection liquid crystal cell are optimized and the response speed is improved, it will be possible to display more characters such as kanji.
Further, the light deflection liquid crystal element capable of two-dimensional scanning with a fast response speed may be applied as a camera shake correction means of a camera. In general, it is said that camera shake is likely to occur when the shutter speed is 500 μsec or more. Since the response speed of the light deflection liquid crystal element in the present invention is about 200 μsec, it will be able to cope with application as a camera shake correction means.
FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram of an imaging apparatus provided with camera shake correction means including the light deflection
When the
The camera shake correction means using the light deflecting
The light deflecting
FIG. 7 is a conceptual diagram showing an example in which the light deflection
The basic configuration of the stereoscopic display device is, for example, a
In the 3D backlight, it is generally sufficient that the light can be bent in the left-right direction. Therefore, the light polarization
The
The transmission / scattering liquid crystal

Next, as a second embodiment, an example in which the light polarization
When the transmittance of each of the

FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view in the thickness direction schematically showing one of the light deflection
In the light deflection
As the prism material, for example, a polyurethane-based ultraviolet curable resin having a refractive index of about 1.6 is used. In this case, a liquid crystal material having Δn of about 0.2 (no: about 1.5, ne: about 1.7) is used. Further, for example, a special acrylate (containing two benzene rings) -based ultraviolet curable resin having a refractive index of about 1.577 can be used as the prism material. In this case, a liquid crystal material having Δn of about 0.13 (no: about 1.51 and ne: about 1.64) is used. The manufacturing method of the
FIG. 9 is an example of an optical system for two-dimensionally scanning light as the light polarization
In this experiment, the light deflection
In this experiment, the prism length directions of the light deflection
In this experiment, the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer 15 (liquid crystal material) changed substantially in proportion to the square of the electric field strength, and saturation was observed at an applied voltage of about 10 V (driving frequency 100 Hz). Further, the refractive index gradually changed at a threshold value of 3 V with respect to the change in applied voltage. When the applied voltages of 0 V and 10 V were all OFF voltage and all ON voltage, respectively, it was confirmed that when the voltage was about 4 V, the light traveled straight without being bent. Further, when the response speed was measured, it was about 50 msec at the rise and about 200 msec (room temperature) at the fall when all the OFF voltages and all the ON voltages were applied. Thus, since the light deflection

The circle at position A is the projection light when all the ON voltages are applied to all the light deflection
An
It should be noted that the arrangement of the light deflection
As described above, according to the first and second embodiments of the present invention, the angle at which light is bent when the maximum voltage is applied to the
