Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus, a control method for the image forming apparatus, and a control program, and more particularly to control according to the remaining amount of ink in an ink jet image forming apparatus.
In recent years, there has been a tendency to digitize information, and image processing apparatuses such as printers and facsimiles used for outputting digitized information and scanners used for digitizing documents have become indispensable devices. Such an image processing apparatus is often configured as a multifunction machine that can be used as a printer, a facsimile, a scanner, or a copier by providing an imaging function, an image forming function, a communication function, and the like.
Among such image processing apparatuses, as an aspect of a printer that is used for outputting digitized information, there is a printer that employs an inkjet method (hereinafter referred to as an inkjet printer). An ink jet printer is equipped with a recording head including nozzles for ejecting ink, and performs image formation by applying pressure to an ink liquid chamber in the recording head and ejecting ink onto a sheet as a recording medium.
The ink jet printer is equipped with an ink cartridge for supplying ink to the liquid chamber in the recording head described above. When the ink runs out, the user replaces the ink cartridge, so that the ink is replenished.
In an ink jet printer, if an ink end that runs out of ink in an ink cartridge occurs, and if the ink end is a color, forced to perform monochrome printing based on user instructions and prior settings Some have a printing function (for example, see Patent Document 1).
The above-mentioned ink end is a state in which the ink in the ink cartridge has run out, and the ink is still in the ink liquid chamber in the recording head. When the ink is exhausted from the ink liquid chamber in the recording head, the above-described forced printing cannot be performed in order to prevent the recording head from malfunctioning. This is because if ink is ejected while the ink liquid chamber in the recording head is empty, bubbles will be mixed into the recording head and the subsequent operation will be hindered.
On the other hand, in an inkjet printer, cleaning of the head is periodically performed. Some heads are cleaned by ejecting ink from nozzles. In this case, a small amount of ink is consumed. Since this state maintenance discharge is performed at the nozzles of the heads of all colors, the ink is also executed from the nozzles of the color in which the ink in the ink cartridge has run out. As a result, the ink is also consumed from the ink liquid chamber in the recording head. Subsequently, as a result, the forced printing as described above becomes impossible.
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above situation, and in an ink jet printer, when an ink end has occurred in at least one ink cartridge, a page that can be forcibly printed with the remaining ink. The purpose is to increase the number.
In order to solve the above-described problems, one embodiment of the present invention is an inkjet image forming apparatus that ejects a plurality of colors of ink to perform image formation output, and an inkjet recording head that ejects ink onto a sheet. A head tank filled with ink in the ink jet recording head, an ink supply unit that supplies ink to the head tank, an ink end detection unit that detects that the remaining amount of ink in the ink supply unit has become zero, and A head driving unit that drives the inkjet recording head, and an image formation control unit that controls execution of image formation output by controlling the head driving unit, and the image formation control unit includes ink in the ink supply unit When image formation output is executed in a state where the remaining amount is detected to be zero, the ink remaining in the ink supply unit Information for controlling the head drive unit is generated based on the information of the image to be imaged and output so that the image forming output is executed by ink other than the color whose color is zero. The ink consumption is calculated based on the generated information for controlling the head driving unit, and the ink consumption is calculated based on the generated information for controlling the head drive unit. Only when the value is smaller than a threshold value for determining that the amount of ink consumption is small, control is performed so that image formation output is executed with ink other than the color whose remaining ink amount is zero. And
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a control method for an inkjet image forming apparatus that performs image formation output by ejecting a plurality of colors of ink by a plurality of inkjet recording heads that eject ink onto paper. Detects that the remaining amount of ink in the ink supply unit that supplies ink to the head tank filled with ink in the ink jet recording head has become zero, and detects that the remaining amount of ink in the ink supply unit has become zero. When the image formation output is executed in the generated state, the information on the image to be imaged is output so that the image formation output is executed with ink other than the color in which the ink remaining amount in the ink supply unit is zero. based on, it generates information for controlling the head driving unit for driving the ink jet recording head, the ink remaining amount is zero A value indicating the ink consumption in the image forming output executed by the ink other than the selected color is calculated based on the generated information for controlling the head driving unit, and the value indicating the ink consumption is Only when the ink consumption is smaller than a threshold value for determining that the amount of ink consumed is small, control is performed so that image formation output is performed with ink other than the color in which the remaining amount of ink is zero.
According to still another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a control program for an inkjet image forming apparatus that performs image formation output by ejecting a plurality of colors of ink from a plurality of inkjet recording heads that eject ink onto a sheet. Detecting that the ink remaining amount in the ink supply unit supplying ink to a head tank filled with ink in the ink jet recording head has become zero; and the ink remaining amount in the ink supply unit has become zero The image forming output should be executed so that the image forming output is executed with the ink other than the color in which the remaining amount of ink in the ink supply unit is zero. based on the information of the image, the raw information for controlling the head driving unit for driving the ink jet recording head And calculating a value indicating an ink consumption amount in an image forming output executed by an ink other than the color whose remaining ink amount is zero based on the generated information for controlling the head driving unit. And only when the value indicating the ink consumption is smaller than a threshold value for determining that the ink consumption is low, image formation output is performed with ink other than the color in which the ink remaining amount is zero. And causing the image forming apparatus to execute the step of controlling to execute the process.
According to the present invention, in the ink jet printer, when an ink end occurs in at least one ink cartridge, the number of pages that can be forcibly printed with the remaining ink can be increased.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. In the present embodiment, a description will be given of control in the case where the remaining amount of one ink cartridge becomes zero and an ink end occurs in an ink jet printer as an image forming apparatus.

Here, the ink cartridge 10 is accommodated in the cartridge mounting portion 4, and a
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 2, one
In order to feed the
The
In order to charge the surface of the
As shown in FIG. 2, a double-sided
As shown in FIG. 3, a maintenance /
In addition, the non-printing area on the other side in the scanning direction of the
In the ink jet recording apparatus configured as described above, the
When the
When the
When waiting for printing (recording), the
Next, a control configuration of the image forming apparatus according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. As shown in FIG. 4, the
Further, the

Here, the
Then, the
The generation of dot pattern data for image output may be performed by storing font data in the
The drive waveform generation unit of the
The
The

The first ink
Note that the second ink
The second ink end is detected.
Whether or not the first ink end is detected is recognized by referring to the image
The second ink

In the image forming apparatus having such a configuration, the gist according to the present embodiment relates to control when the ink end of any one of the
FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing the operation after the first ink end detection of the image forming apparatus according to the present embodiment. In FIG. 6, an example will be described in which monochrome printing is performed when any one of the
As shown in FIG. 6, when the image
As a result of the determination in S602, if there is no forced print request (S602 / NO), the process is terminated as it is. On the other hand, when there is a forced printing request (S602 / YES), the image
As described above, since forced printing is executed in monochrome, all pixels are converted into colored / colorless binary values. In step S <b> 603, the image
Note that depending on the specifications of the
When the color ratio is calculated, the image
As a result of the determination in S604, when the color ratio is smaller than a predetermined threshold (S604 / YES), the image
On the other hand, as a result of the determination in S604, if the color ratio is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold (S604 / NO), the image
As described above, in the image forming apparatus according to the present embodiment, when the first ink end is generated in the color ink, monochrome printing is performed with the black ink in which the ink end is not generated. At that time, it is determined whether the ink consumption is large or small based on the color ratio calculated from the output target image, and forced printing is permitted only when it is determined that the ink consumption is small. Therefore, the number of times that monochrome printing can be performed by forced printing increases in a state where the ink cartridge is not replaced. As a result, it is possible to reduce the possibility of being unable to cope with urgent printing.
In addition, in the ink jet printer, it is necessary to perform state maintenance discharge for discharging the recording liquid having increased viscosity with respect to the state
When the second ink end occurs, image formation output is completely prohibited to prevent air bubbles from entering the head tank. As a result, it becomes impossible to deal with urgent printing. On the other hand, in the image forming apparatus according to the present embodiment, the ink that is consumed in the forced printing while the first ink end is generated is permitted by allowing the forced printing only when the ink consumption is small. In order to reduce the amount, it is possible to reduce the execution frequency of the state maintenance discharge, and it is possible to extend the period until the ink in which the first ink end is generated becomes the second ink end. As a result, it is possible to reduce the possibility of being unable to cope with urgent printing.
Next, another aspect of the operation after the first ink end detection in the image forming apparatus according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. In the aspect of FIG. 9, in addition to the
As shown in FIG. 9, the same processing as S601 to S603 in FIG. 6 is executed from S901 to S903. When the color ratio is calculated, the image
On the other hand, if it is determined in step S604 that the color ratio is equal to or greater than the threshold value 1 (S904 / NO), the image
FIGS. 10A and 10B are diagrams illustrating an example of black-and-white reversal printing. A black white character image as shown in FIG. 10A consumes a great deal of ink if printed as it is, but if black-white reversal is performed as shown in FIG. Only the character portion is consumed, and printing can be performed with a small amount of ink consumption.
On the other hand, if the color ratio is less than the
The value of
According to the mode of FIG. 9, by performing black and white reversal, printing is performed when printing is possible with an ink consumption similar to the ink consumption determined by the
Note that the setting as to whether or not to perform black and white reversal as shown in FIG. 9 can be set in advance by the user on the setting screen as shown in FIG. The image
Next, the operation for determining the threshold value used in S604 of FIG. 6 and S904 and S906 of FIG. 9 according to the paper size to be output will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. In FIG. 12, an example in which the corresponding document sizes are A4, B4, and A3 sizes will be described. As shown in FIG. 12, when comparing the calculated color rate with the threshold, the image
When the document is A3 size (S1201 / YES), the image
On the other hand, when the document is not B4 size (S1203 / NO), the image
In order to solve the problem of the ink consumption due to the document size as described above, the thresholds applied in S604 of FIG. 6 and S904 of FIG. 9 have a relationship of A3 threshold <B4 threshold <A4 threshold. The threshold value applied in A906 of FIG. 9 has a relationship of A3 threshold value> B4 threshold value> A4 threshold value.
Such a threshold value is input when the user operates the
Also, as described in FIG. 12, when setting a threshold value for each size, as shown in FIGS. 13B to 13D, a screen is displayed for each size and the threshold value is set. Further, the reverse printing threshold as shown in FIG. 9 is set on a screen as shown in FIG. 13E, and the threshold for each size is set as shown in FIGS. 13F to 13H. The
The image forming
When the state maintenance discharge is determined according to the number of times of image formation output and print job, or when the state maintenance discharge is executed every elapse of a predetermined period, the above-described control alone is effective. Can't get. In such a case, after the first ink end is detected, until the ink cartridge is replaced, the state maintenance discharge is performed more frequently than in the normal state, that is, the state where the first ink end is not detected. It is necessary to perform control that lowers.
Specifically, if execution of state maintenance discharge is determined according to the number of image formation outputs or print jobs, the image formation output or print job that triggers state maintenance discharge in the normal state This can be realized by executing the state maintenance discharge every number of times greater than the number of times. Further, if the state maintenance discharge is executed every elapse of a predetermined period, the state maintenance discharge is executed every period longer than the elapsed period that becomes the execution trigger of the state maintenance discharge in the normal state. It is feasible.
In the above embodiment, the case where monochrome printing is performed with black ink when the first ink end is detected for color ink has been described as an example. However, this is merely an example, and the gist of the above embodiment is that when the first ink end is detected for at least one color, the color in which the first ink end is not detected, that is, the ink in the ink cartridge 10. The purpose is to generate information for controlling the
