Description
この発明は、空気バリア用として有用な低ガス透過性エラストマーに関し、具体的には、トリエチルアミン官能基をもつイソブチレンポリマーをベースにした組成物、方法及び物品に関する。
発明者らは、BIMSポリマー等のハロゲン化エラストマーの部分的トリエチルアミン(TEA)官能化は、エラストマー、特にナノコンポジット用途において、他の官能性ポリマーに勝る幾つかの利点をもたらすことができることを見出した。TEA官能化BIMSは、ナノクレイの分散を促進し、バリア特性を向上させると共に、トリエチルアミン−官能性ポリマーのムーニー粘度を改善する。それゆえ、その加工性は、ポリマーにおける官能基量を制御することによって容易に調節されることができる。
一実施例において、エラストマーは、ハロゲン化ポリ(イソブチレン-co-p-メチルスチレン)を含むことができ、ベンジリックハロゲン基の一部はトリエチルアミン官能基を有している。
本発明は、トリエチルアミン官能化エラストマーの加硫性硬化組成物、該組成物から作られた物品、及び前記組成物を用いて物品を製造する方法について記載する。トリエチルアミンの官能化により、バリア特性が向上(透過性が低下)し、同時に、エラストマー及び組成物の粘度を制御する機構により、加工性(processability)を向上させることができる。
好ましい材料は、ポリマー鎖に沿って不規則間隔を有し、次式で示されるモノマー単位を含んだインターポリマーとして特徴づけられることができる。
A.エラストマーを含む加硫ゴム組成物であって、C4〜C7イソオレフィン由来単位、パラアルキルスチレン由来単位、パラ−(ハロアルキルスチレン)由来単位、及び、前記式(I)に係るエラストマーEのペンダントとしてトリエチルアンモニウムアルキル基を有し、式(I)中、R及びR1は同じであるか又は異なり、水素、C1〜C7アルキル、一次及び二次C1〜C7アルキルハロゲン化物のうちの1種であるパラ−(トリエチルアンモニウムアルキルスチレン)由来単位を含むエラストマーと、充填材と、キュアパッケージとを含んでいる。
<実験例1(比較例:100-TEA-BIMS)>
商標名EXXPROの臭素化イソブチレン-パラ-メチルスチレンコポリマー(BIMS)(MDX 03-1 : 10重量%のパラ-メチルスチレン(PMS)、0.85モル%のBrPMS、ムーニー31.5)50グラムを、1-L反応器内のトルエン500 mL中で溶解させた。トリエチルアミン(TEA)(4.38g)を、150mLのイソプロピルアルコール中で溶解し、反応器に加えた。反応混合物を85-86℃に加熱し、6時間還流した。1000mLのイソプロピルアルコールをポリマーセメントに加えると、生成物が析出した。80℃の真空オーブン中で16時間乾燥させた後、析出物について1H−NMR分析を行なった。分析結果では、得られた官能ポリマー中におけるベンジリックブロミドのアンモニウム官能性への変換は100%乃至略100%であった(100-TEA-BIMS)。
商標名EXXPROのBIMSポリマー(MDX 03-1 : 10重量%のパラ-メチルスチレン(PMS)、0.85モル%のBrPMS、ムーニー31.5)100グラムを、2-L反応器内のトルエン750mL中で溶解させた。TEA(1.46g)を、150mLのイソプロピルアルコール中で溶解し、反応器に加えた。反応混合物を85-86℃に加熱し、6時間還流した。1000mLのイソプロピルアルコールをポリマーセメントに加えて、生成物を析出させた。80℃の真空オーブン中で16時間乾燥させた後、析出物について1H−NMR分析を行なった。分析結果では、得られた官能ポリマー中におけるベンジリックブロミドのアンモニウムへの変換は36.5%であった(36-TEA-BIMS)。
商標名EXXPROのBIMSポリマー(MDX 03-1 : 10重量%のパラ-メチルスチレン(PMS)、0.85モル%のBrPMS、ムーニー31.5)100グラムを、2-L反応器内のトルエン750mL中で溶解させた。TEA(0.73g)を、150mLのイソプロピルアルコール中で溶解し、反応器に加えた。反応混合物を85-86℃に加熱し、6時間還流した。1000mLのイソプロピルアルコールをポリマーセメントに加えて、生成物を析出させた。80℃の真空オーブン中で16時間乾燥させた後、析出物について1H−NMR分析を行なった。分析結果では、得られた官能ポリマー中におけるベンジリックブロミドのアンモニウムへの変換は21.2%であった(21-TEA-BIMS)。

商標名EXXPROのBIMSポリマー(10重量%のPMS、0.85モル%のBrPMS、ムーニー31.5)150グラムを、2-L反応器内のトルエン1200 mL中で溶解させた。TEA(1.31g)を、200mLのイソプロピルアルコール中で溶解し、反応器に加えた。反応混合物を85-86℃に加熱し、6時間還流した。1000mLのイソプロピルアルコールをポリマーセメントに加えて、生成物を析出させた。80℃の真空オーブン中で16時間乾燥させた後、析出物について1H−NMR分析を行なった。分析結果では、得られた官能ポリマー中におけるベンジリックブロミドのアンモニウム官能性への変換は18.8%であった(19-TEA-BIMS)。
伸び特性の測定は、ASTM D412に準拠して行ない、ASTM C試験片について、温度23℃での破断点伸び(%)を測定した。

- C4〜C7イソオレフィン由来単位、パラアルキルスチレン由来単位、パラ−(ハロアルキルスチレン)由来単位、及び、パラ−(トリエチルアンモニウムアルキルスチレン)由来単位を含んでおり、前記パラ−(トリエチルアンモニウムアルキルスチレン)由来単位は、次の式:
- エラストマーは、トリエチルアミン官能基とベンジリックハロゲンのモル比が1:20〜1:2である請求項1のエラストマー。
- エラストマーは、ベンジリックハロゲンの一部がトリエチルアミン官能化されているハロゲン化ポリ(イソブチレン-co-p-メチルスチレン)を含んでいる請求項1又は2のエラストマー。
- メチルスチレン基の1〜60モルパーセントは、ハロゲン化されるか、又はトリエチルアミン官能化されている請求項3のエラストマー。
- エラストマーは、0.1〜3モルパーセントのハロメチルスチレンと、0.05〜1モルパーセントのトリエチルアンモニウムメチルスチレンを含んでいる請求項3のエラストマー。
- 請求項1乃至5の何れかのエラストマーを含んでなる物品であって、物品の空気不透過層の中に前記エラストマーを含んでいる、物品。
