Description
The present invention relates to an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus, and more particularly to an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus having a diagnostic mode for imaging a second harmonic component included in a received echo signal.
In recent years, techniques for visualizing harmonic components contained in received echo signals have been developed. Those techniques collectively referred to as harmonic imaging are broadly classified as being widely used in practice as follows.
(I) So-called tissue harmonic imaging (THI) that visualizes harmonic components generated in the propagation sound wave itself due to the nonlinearity of the living tissue as the sound wave propagation medium
(Ii) So-called contrast harmonic imaging that uses microbubbles as a contrast agent and visualizes harmonic components generated by sound waves. For example, the former is described in Non-Patent
When the waveform is distorted, the signal component also has a frequency that is an integral multiple of the fundamental wave. That is, a harmonic component is generated. It is the THI that constructs a B-mode image using this harmonic component, in many cases the second harmonic component.
Then, what is improved by such an image method is explained as follows. That is, the generation of harmonic components as described above is proportional to the square of the sound pressure. For this reason, a larger amount of light is generated and reflected where the transmission focus is set (that is, the sound pressure is large) and the image is originally intended to be imaged. In this case, since the ratio of the information from the unfocused portion included in the received beam becomes relatively small, an image with fewer virtual images can be provided. In other words, due to the directivity of the ultrasonic beam, the influence of side lobes, which was unavoidable to some extent by the fundamental wave imaging method, becomes smaller, and a higher resolution image can be provided.
The following methods 1) and 2) have been developed as received signal processing methods for obtaining such images. In the following description, it is assumed that the second harmonic component is imaged.
1) Filter method
The basic concept is relatively simple. As shown in FIG. 12, the second harmonic component contained in the received signal is extracted by a filter or the like to construct an image.
2) Pulse subtraction (or pulse inversion) method
In this technique, only one second harmonic component is extracted by two transmissions / receptions. As shown in FIG. 13, this is realized by reversing the polarity of the second transmission pulse from that of the first transmission, and adding up the resulting reception signals. This is canceled because the fundamental wave components have opposite polarities, but the second harmonic components generated during the propagation of the sound wave are emphasized because they are in phase.
Among these, the method 2) is frequently used for diagnosis in the abdominal region for the following reasons.
First, it is possible to cancel a second harmonic component that is already included in the original transmission signal (not generated in the process of sound wave propagation). The schematic diagram of FIG. 10 shows a sound wave near the sound source that has no harmonic component at all, but it is actually impossible to transmit a sound wave having no distortion and includes a harmonic component to some extent. It will be. Since it is not related to focus and tissue information, it is an unnecessary component for imaging, but can be canceled by this pulse subtraction method.
In addition, since the received second harmonic component is emphasized by the addition, it is also advantageous from the viewpoint of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
However, it is disadvantageous that two transmissions / receptions are required to obtain one reception beam. This means that in order to obtain an image of a certain unit (for example, one 2D image in a certain time phase if it is a 2D image), it takes twice as long as the conventional method. For this reason, it is difficult to apply to the diagnosis in the circulatory organ region where it is important to see the movement.
Therefore, a filter method is employed for diagnosis that requires speed (or a high frame rate). The filter method can be implemented as shown in FIG. 14 using a conventional hardware architecture.
In FIG. 14, the input signal is a plurality of preamplifiers 1 1, 1 2, ..., 1 n and analog - digital (A / D) converter (ADC) 2 1, 2 2 , ..., analog processing at 2 n The digital beam former 3 performs digital processing. Then, received second harmonic components are obtained from the
Conventionally, the fundamental wave component around ω C is frequency-converted to baseband by a digital mixer, but here the second harmonic component is extracted as 2ω C. Unnecessary components subjected to frequency conversion, that is, original fundamental wave components, original second harmonic components that are not used for imaging converted to a high frequency side, and the like are removed by a low-pass filter (see FIG. 15). A filter effect as shown in FIG. 12 is realized by the digital mixer and the low-pass filter.
However, this method has the following problems. The second harmonic component generated in the propagation process of the sound wave is very small compared to the fundamental wave. The amplitude of the signal handled by the signal processing circuit is occupied by the fundamental wave component up to the input of the digital mixer. On the other hand, what is important for sensitivity is SNR, and in order to maximize this, processing is performed while applying the maximum gain that can be added within a range that does not cause saturation in each processing unit. Determined by component amplitude. If the gain is sufficient for the second harmonic component, there is no problem, but generally this is not the case. Specifically, the quantization noise in the A / D converter is not negligible for the second harmonic component, and the sensitivity of the resulting image is not necessarily good. It was.
One method for improving this situation is described in
FIG. 16 is a diagram showing the configuration of a circuit for increasing the sensitivity of an image by such a conventional filter method.
In FIG. 16,
However, there is a problem with the method described in
As a configuration method of the variable cutoff filter, the following can be considered.
a) Configure filters with several different cut-off frequencies in parallel and switch by probe.
b) An element that can change the constant of the filter component by some means is used.
A variable capacitance diode can be used as b), and
However, both methods increase the circuit scale and increase the necessary cost. In addition, since the filter is required for each channel, for example, in the case of a 128 channel system, the cost increase is 128 times. Furthermore, analog elements such as inductors and capacitors that are constituent elements have a certain physical size, which is disadvantageous in terms of mounting area. There is a possibility that a small device with such a limitation may not be able to fit a circuit in a mounting space.
As described above, the problem with the conventional method is that if the harmonic imaging filter method is first performed with the existing hardware circuit, it becomes difficult to obtain sufficient sensitivity, and a method for realizing increased sensitivity. If executed, it would lead to a cost increase that cannot be ignored.
Accordingly, the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus capable of obtaining a harmonic imaging image with high sensitivity and suppressing an increase in cost without increasing the size of the apparatus. It is to be.
The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus according to the present embodiment includes a plurality of first amplifiers that respectively amplify a plurality of reception echo signals that are analog signals output from a plurality of channels in the ultrasonic probe, and a fundamental wave in the reception echo signal. ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to this invention, while obtaining a harmonic imaging image with a sufficient sensitivity, an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus which can suppress a raise of cost without enlarging an apparatus can be provided.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
The basic idea of the present invention is that the gain for the second harmonic component to be imaged is sufficient to effectively use the limited dynamic range at the time of A / D conversion, thereby suppressing noise degradation. There is. In order to realize this while suppressing an increase in cost, in the present invention, the analog signal processing unit is configured as shown in FIG.
That is, a
By the
In the present embodiment, the fundamental wave removal conventionally performed by the variable cutoff high-pass filter is performed by the
Next, the operation of the circuit shown in FIG. 1 will be described with reference to FIG. 2 based on signals in the frequency domain.
First, as shown in FIG. 2B, the center frequency of the
By removing the large-amplitude fundamental wave component, the gain margin related to saturation is relaxed. At this point, gain can be applied to the original second harmonic component converted to the 5 MHz band as shown in FIG. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the influence of quantization noise during A / D conversion.
Hereinafter, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, even in the case of different fundamental wave frequencies, the fundamental wave component can be removed even if the characteristics of the
The frequency band of the component A 2 to be imaged in FIG. 3 is 6 MHz and the pass band of the
With this method, the filter characteristics for removing the fundamental wave may be fixed, so that the circuit scale can be increased by preparing a plurality of filters as in the past or adding elements with variable characteristics and their control circuits. There is no need. Although a mixer and its LO signal generation circuit are required, as described later, they can be easily configured with a small number of element circuits. In particular, since it can be realized with a semiconductor, it can be realized with a smaller size and lower cost when integration is considered. That is, the method according to the present invention can provide a high-sensitivity harmonic imaging image at a lower cost than the conventional method.
FIG. 5 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration of an analog signal processing unit of an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus using the harmonic image filter method according to an embodiment of the present invention.
In FIG. 5, the analog signal processing unit includes a
The
The
As described above, the second harmonic component to be imaged is suitably adjusted with respect to dynamic range, A /
The subsequent processing is basically the same as that of a conventional ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus. For example, as shown in FIG. 14, a band including a signal component is converted into a baseband. For example, in the case of the B mode, it is sent to a processing circuit such as amplitude calculation and logarithmic conversion, and a final image is obtained.

Next, a modification of one embodiment of the present invention will be described.
As this modification, an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus to which a real-time three-dimensional (3D) system using a two-dimensional (2D) array probe is applied will be described. In this case, the number of elements that the probe has is dramatically increased compared to the conventional one. For example, in the case of a probe having a 48 × 32 element array, the total number of channels is 1536. Since it is practically impossible to perform all this reception processing on the system side, a method of reducing the number of signals to be sent to the system side by performing beam forming addition in a certain unit in the probe is used.
For example, in the case of the above-described example, when adding every 12 channels, the number of signals output from the probe becomes 128, which can be processed by a conventional system. This intra-probe reception beamforming (also referred to as sub-array beamforming) is realized by analog signal processing because it is currently difficult to incorporate an A / D converter in the probe.
FIG. 9 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration of an analog signal processing unit of an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus configured as a modification of one embodiment of the present invention.
In this modification, the configuration and basic operation are the same as the configuration and operation of the ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus according to the embodiment shown in FIGS. For the same parts, the same reference numerals are assigned to the same parts, and the illustration and description thereof will be omitted, and only the description of the different operations will be described.
That is, in the ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus of FIG. 9, as the analog signal processing unit, a plurality of
Here, the
Then, the received signal is converted into a certain intermediate frequency region, and a delay characteristic corresponding to the selected phase is given. In this way, the signals to which the delay characteristics corresponding to the respective channels are given are added by the
What is required as a circuit in the subsequent stage is basically a low-pass filter and an A / D converter for high-frequency removal. Here, in order to apply to the harmonic imaging used in the above-described embodiment, a band-pass filter ( BPF) 34, a
As the intermediate frequency, if an LO signal frequency is selected such that the harmonic component to be visualized is converted into the intermediate frequency, and the
In other words, in this modified example, in the subarray beamformer circuit (subarray unit) using a mixer, it is necessary to use a filter characteristic and a second-stage amplifier in advance in consideration of harmonic component imaging. In consideration of the characteristics, the user can immediately operate what he wants to do by appropriately selecting the LO frequency.
According to the above-described embodiment, it is possible to increase the sensitivity of the harmonic imaging filter method, which has been realized by using a conventional cutoff frequency variable high-pass filter and accepting a certain increase in cost, while reducing costs. That is, it is possible to provide a user with a harmonic imaging image with high resolution and high sensitivity at a lower cost.
In the present embodiment, the description has been made on the assumption that the second-order harmonic is visualized, but the scope of the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, even when imaging using a component at a frequency higher than the second harmonic is useful, application is possible.
As mentioned above, although embodiment of this invention was described, in the range which does not deviate from the summary of this invention other than embodiment mentioned above, this invention can be variously modified.
Further, the above-described embodiments include inventions at various stages, and various inventions can be extracted by appropriately combining a plurality of disclosed constituent elements.
