Description

  The present invention relates to a wrapping bundle of smoking articles such as cigarettes, and in particular smoking articles comprising a filter such as a cigarette with a filter.

For packaging purposes, a plurality of smoking articles of a given collation are tightly wrapped in an inner liner to form a wrapped bundle.
Typically, the inner liner used to wrap a bundle of smoking articles is from a single packaging material, such as paper or aluminum foil, or a combination of packaging materials, such as paper, aluminum foil, and plastic material. Made of either.

After the bundle of smoking articles is wrapped in the inner liner, the bundle is closed, for example, by gluing or sealing the inner liner flap along the side of the bundle and on the bottom and top of the bundle. A smoking article comprising a filter typically comprises a tobacco rod compartment containing a cut filler and a filter compartment comprising one or more filter segments. Thus, a cigarette with a filter includes a filter end and a tobacco rod end.

During the packaging process, subsequent pack transport and handling, tobacco particles may fall off the tobacco rod. These tobacco particles are often referred to as “tobacco shorts”. For handling, tobacco shorts tend to move inside the wrapped bundle. Even before the wrapped bundle is opened, the tobacco shorts may have migrated to the outside of the smoking article, to the filter end of the smoking article if a filter is present, and to the surface of the inner liner. Visible tobacco shorts provide an undesirable appearance for packs of smoking articles and for the smoking articles themselves, and are particularly undesirable for filters of smoking articles.
To reduce the number of visible tobacco shorts, the tobacco rod is compressed in the area of the tobacco rod end of the smoking article during manufacture of the smoking article. The compressed compartment is called the “high density end”. The compression of the tobacco rod at the end of the open tobacco rod serves as a plug that prevents smaller particles from falling off. Still, the high density ends do not completely prevent the generation of tobacco shorts.

  Accordingly, providing a wrapped bundle of smoking articles that reduces the movement of tobacco shorts inside the wrapped bundle, and in particular prevents the tobacco shorts from reaching the filter end when a filter is present. Is the object of the present invention.

In order to further reduce the number of visible tobacco shorts, the wrapped bundle of smoking articles according to the present invention includes an inner liner including an inner surface, the inner surface having at least for attaching tobacco shorts. The term “inner surface” of the inner liner is used throughout this specification to mean the surface of the inner liner that faces the smoking article in the bundle. The long side is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the smoking article inside the bundle.

The term “upper side” of a bundle of smoking articles is used throughout this specification to mean the side of the bundle that is open to remove the smoking article from the bundle. Generally, a smoking article with a filter is arranged inside the inner liner of the bundle such that the filter end of the smoking article is close to the upper side of the bundle.
The term “bottom side” of a bundle of smoking articles is used throughout this specification to mean the side of the bundle that is remote from the top side. Generally, a smoking article with a filter is arranged inside the inner liner of the bundle such that the dense end of the smoking article is close to the bottom side of the bundle.

  Preferably, the at least one adhesive section is low tack and is sufficiently sticky to cause the tobacco shorts to stick to the at least one adhesive section, while at the same time the smoking article is at least one adhesive section. It is not sticky enough to bond firmly. Suitable adhesives are low tack adhesives, for example synthetic semi-pressure sensitive hot melt adhesives such as “PRIMAGRIP 38-638, both commercially available from“ HENKEL AG ”or“ T0BAC0LL ZD 4404 ”. For example, a water-based polyethylene adhesive such as “-01” or a removable acrylic-based adhesive.

Preferably, at least one adhesive section is provided on at least one long side of the inner surface of the inner liner. Preferably, at least one adhesive section of the at least one long side is arranged closer to the bottom side of the bundle.
Alternatively or additionally, at least one adhesive section or additional adhesive section is provided on the inner surface of the bottom side of the inner liner facing the tobacco rod end of the smoking article.

  The at least one adhesive section is preferably in the form of one or more stripes. Preferably, 1 to 100 stripes are arranged on the long surface side of the inner liner. In embodiments with 3 to 10 adhesive stripes, the stripes can be arranged with similar spacing and width, or with variable spacing and variable width. If 3 to 10 adhesive stripes have a variable spacing or width, preferably near the bottom side of the bundle, the spacing is narrower and the width of the adhesive stripe is wider. Depending on the width and spacing of the stripes, a greater number of stripes, for example 20, 50, or 100 stripes, can be arranged on the long side of the inner surface of the inner liner.

Alternatively or additionally, the at least one adhesive section is simply partly covered with an adhesive, for example with a dot, stripe or grid pattern, or using any other design of adhesive coating.
For example, the one or more stripes have a width between about 0.1 mm and about 10 mm, preferably between about 1 mm and about 5 mm. Where there are more than two stripes, the stripes preferably have a distance between about 0.1 mm and about 10 mm, preferably between about 1 mm and about 5 mm.
More preferably, one or more stripes of the at least one adhesive section are arranged in a substantially horizontal direction. Preferably, 1 to 10 stripes are arranged substantially horizontally on the long surface side of the inner liner.

Alternatively, the one or more stripes on the inner surface of the at least one long side are arranged in a substantially vertical direction.
Alternatively or additionally, the at least one adhesive section may comprise, for example, a zigzag or wavy line, a point, a character type, a grid, a geometric shape such as a triangle, semi-circle, or the like, and combinations thereof Or cover the entire inner surface of the inner liner.
At least one adhesive section can be created by the addition of an adhesive or glue to the respective inner surface section. The glue is applied, for example, by an adhesive nozzle system in an adhesive application unit during the manufacturing process of the inner liner. Alternatively, the glue can be added during the packaging process of the wrapped bundle.

Another aspect of the invention relates to a pack for a smoking article comprising an outer pack and a wrapped bundle inside the outer pack, the wrapped bundle being a wrapped bundle as described above.
In one embodiment, the pack for smoking articles is a hinged lid pack, while in another embodiment, the pack for smoking articles is a soft pack. Alternatively, the wrapped bundle according to the invention is the final pack. In that case, the inner liner is the outer and only wrapping paper of the bundle of smoking articles.

FIG. 1 shows a so-called hinge-lid pack 1 including an outer pack 2 and a bundle wrapped inside the outer pack 2. The wrapped bundle includes an inner liner 3 tightly wrapped around a certain collated smoking article 5. The wrapped bundle has flaps 30 and 31 partially overlapping on its upper side. In the cutout portion of FIG. 1, tobacco shorts 4 are visible on the bottom side of the inner surface of the inner liner 3 at the location pointed to by the tobacco rod end of the smoking article 5.
FIG. 2 shows the wrapped bundle in more detail. It has two partially overlapping flaps 30, 31 on its top side, a bottom side 32, two larger long side surfaces forming a front surface 33 and a back surface 34, and two smaller long side surfaces 35. And 36.

  FIG. 3 shows a blank paper embodiment of the inner liner 3 according to the invention. The inner surface of the inner liner 3 is provided with an adhesive section 37 comprising horizontally extending adhesive stripes 37 marked with a diagonal stripe background in the figure. The adhesive between the smoking article 5 and any adhesive compartment 37 is such that the smoking article in the wrapped bundle sticks to the adhesive compartment 37 with little or no adhesion.

In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the inner liner 3 blank is provided with two separate horizontally extending stripes 37 on each of the larger and smaller long side surfaces 330 and 340.
In yet another alternative embodiment (not shown), the blank paper of the inner liner 3 extends five separate horizontally on each of the larger and smaller long side surfaces 330 and 340 except for the bottom surface. Stripes 37 are provided.
In yet another alternative embodiment (not shown), the blank paper of the inner liner 3 is provided with four vertically extending adhesive stripes 37 on each of the larger inner surfaces 330 and 340.

  In general, the adhesive is applied in any suitable manner. For example, the adhesive is applied by an embossing or debossing roller similar to a gravure or flexographic printing process, or through a nozzle. The disclosed stripe is merely an example of a pattern of bonded sections. Other patterns such as dots, dot-line combinations, horizontal lines, diagonal lines, and vertical line combinations that form a grid, or even one, two, three, four, five, or all completely A coated inner liner surface can be considered. The adhesive is added either online as an additional process step of the packaging machine or offline, for example, before the inner liner is fed to the packaging machine.
