Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus.
An image forming apparatus such as a copying machine forms an image on a recording medium such as plain paper or OHP. However, as an image forming apparatus for office use, there are aspects such as high-speed image formation, image quality, and cost. Therefore, many electrophotographic methods are adopted. The electrophotographic method is a method in which a toner image is formed on a recording medium and the toner image on the recording medium is fixed with heat and pressure. As the fixing method, the heat roller method is most often used from the viewpoint of safety and the like. In the heat roller method, a heat roller heated by a heating element such as a halogen heater and a pressure roller disposed opposite to the heat roller are pressed to form a mutual pressure contact portion called a nip portion, and a toner image is formed in the nip portion. The toner image is fixed on the recording medium by heating and pressing through the recording medium to which the toner is transferred. This heating device requires large electric power. In particular, the load on the heating device increases when the operation starts or when the operation is resumed after standby for image formation (when the operation is restored).
On the other hand, recently, environmental problems have become important, and power saving is advanced in image forming apparatuses such as copying machines and printers. In an image forming apparatus equipped with a heating unit such as a fixing device, in order to save energy, the temperature of the heating unit of the fixing device (when the image forming standby (off mode) is off) (when the image forming standby (off mode)) is performed. It is effective not to heat the fixing roller, fixing belt, etc.). However, if the heating unit temperature is decreased without heating the fixing device, the heating unit must be heated again to a certain temperature when the fixing device is used to start image formation. I have to wait. As a result, it takes time for the apparatus to become ready for use, and the usability deteriorates.
In order to avoid this, it is conceivable to shorten the heating part temperature increase time by supplying auxiliary power from the auxiliary power supply. There is known an image forming apparatus that effectively uses the auxiliary power supply from the auxiliary power supply device when the temperature of the heating unit is raised (when the apparatus is started up or when returning from the standby state (off mode)). In this image forming apparatus, charging of the auxiliary power supply device is started when power is not supplied from the main (external) power supply to the heating unit. If charging to the auxiliary power supply is performed at the same time as supplying power to the heating unit from the main power supply, an excessive amount of power supply is required for charging the auxiliary power supply and supplying power to the heating unit. Absent. In general, a large amount of power is required for heating when the heating temperature of the fixing device is heated from the off mode. Therefore, the auxiliary power supply is charged in the off mode by charging in the off mode. A large amount of power can be supplied from the auxiliary power device when returning from the power source.
As described above, one of the purposes of the auxiliary power supply in the image forming apparatus is to shorten the heating time of the fixing device when restarting the operation from the off-mode or in some cases starting up from the power-off, thereby enabling early image formation. It is to be in a state. For this reason, the charging start of the auxiliary power supply device in the off mode is performed by using the transition of the device to the off mode as a trigger.
Since the auxiliary power supply device needs to supply a large amount of power in a short time when the temperature of the fixing device is raised, a capacitor is often used. Capacitors cannot avoid a discharge loss due to self-discharge during power storage, and in particular, have a property that the amount of discharge power is larger as the charge voltage is closer to full charge (charge with full capacitor capacity), that is, as the charge voltage is higher. On the other hand, from the viewpoint of energy saving, it is required to minimize power loss due to self-discharge of the auxiliary power supply device, and some proposals have been made to solve such problems.
As described above, there has been proposed an image forming apparatus devised to eliminate waste of charging power to the auxiliary power apparatus. However, in the image forming apparatuses described in
In the image forming apparatus described in

The
The
Each
The recording media (sheets) are stored in the
Here, the operation of each unit of the image forming apparatus when performing duplex printing will be described. First, image formation by the
The
In synchronization with the
When the
After the toner image is transferred to the paper, the
The sheet with the toner image transferred on both sides is sent to the
As shown in FIG. 2, when the
In the case of single-sided printing, two methods are possible: a single-sided transfer mode using the
FIG. 3 shows the configuration of the power supply device of the color printer of this embodiment. When the
A constant
At this time, a 24V voltage detection signal (feedback signal) is provided from the rear of the load

The reason why the
The load

The input /

FIG. 5 is a diagram for explaining the characteristics of the electric double layer capacitor type capacitor (capacitor 37) in this embodiment. Normally, the
Referring to FIG. 5, when the operation mode of the apparatus ends and enters the off mode (time t 0 ), and the capacitor voltage is v 0 , the charging operation starts immediately in the conventional image forming apparatus, At time t 1 , the capacitor is charged with a sufficient amount of power (fully charged) to become voltage v max . Thereafter, when the time t 1 the self-discharge occurs in a state of voltage v max during (t 1 ~t 3) for a predetermined time, voltage v a lowered (see a broken line in FIG. 5). In this case, the discharge amount of power is substantially v max × v a. On the other hand, when the elapsed while at the same fixed time of voltage v 0 without
The image forming apparatus according to the present embodiment includes a storage amount detection device for the
In the off mode, the control device and sensors including the input /
The charged amount of the
In this image forming apparatus, the voltage corresponding to the amount of electric power stored in the
In the off mode, the input /
The fixing
When the cooling rate of the fixing
Furthermore, v min and v max can be calculated in consideration of the print history before switching to the off mode. That is, if high-speed printing is continued for a long time before the off mode, the heat consumption of the fixing device increases, and the power supplied from the fixing
The
The various parameters for calculating the above v min, v max is, v min in only one respectively, v rather than using the max determined, v min, also possible to calculate the v max by combining these parameters I can do it. Considering the environment in which the image forming apparatus is installed, the usage pattern of the apparatus, the balance between the printing waiting time and the necessity of energy saving, and the like are optimally combined, the usability of the apparatus and the energy saving effect are improved.
The charging operation to the
