Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a driving technique for a light emitting diode.
In recent years, instead of fluorescent lamps, a technique has been proposed in which a light emitting diode (hereinafter abbreviated as LED), which is expected to have high efficiency and long life, is used as a lighting fixture. For example,
The commercial AC voltage is supplied at a predetermined rated voltage of about 100 V or 200 V, but it is known that it actually fluctuates. In order to drive the LED array with stable brightness, it is necessary to provide a constant current circuit on the drive path of the LED array and stabilize the brightness with a constant drive current. When driving the LED array by smoothing the commercial AC voltage, if the commercial AC voltage falls below the operating voltage of the constant current circuit, it becomes impossible to generate a drive current necessary to obtain a desired luminance.
In order to solve this problem, it is conceivable that the voltage (voltage drop) between both ends of the constant current circuit at the rated time is designed to be high by adding a margin on the assumption that the commercial AC voltage is lowered. However, in this case, another problem that power consumption in the constant current circuit becomes large occurs. From this point of view, a constant current circuit (drive circuit) that can operate at a low voltage is desired.
Further, when a constant current diode connected in series to the LED array is used as the constant current circuit, there arises a problem that the drive current that can be supplied to the LED array is limited to the rated current of the constant current diode.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and one of its purposes is to provide a technique for driving an LED with stable luminance.
One embodiment of the present invention relates to a drive circuit for driving a light-emitting diode array including a plurality of light-emitting diodes connected in series. The driving circuit includes a power source for supplying a driving voltage to the light emitting diode array, a first transistor and a first transistor provided in series between one end of the light emitting diode array and a reference voltage terminal on a driving path of the light emitting diode array. A resistor, a constant current source provided between the other end of the light-emitting diode array and the control terminal of the first transistor, and a resistor provided between the control terminal of the first transistor and the reference voltage terminal. And a second transistor to which a voltage corresponding to the voltage drop is applied.
According to this aspect, a stable drive current that does not depend on the power supply voltage can be supplied to the light emitting diode array. The main power loss in the drive circuit is generated by the first transistor and the second resistor, and the power is given by the product of the drive current and the combined resistance of the first transistor and the second resistor. The voltage drop of one transistor and the second resistor can be reduced, and the power consumption can be reduced.

According to this aspect, the gate-source voltage (base-emitter voltage) of the first transistor can be clamped, and the drive circuit can be suitably protected.
The first transistor may be a field effect transistor and the second transistor may be a bipolar transistor.
Another aspect of the present invention also relates to a drive circuit for a light emitting diode array. The driving circuit includes a power source that supplies a driving voltage to the light emitting diode array, a first transistor and a first transistor that are provided in series between one end of the light emitting diode array and a reference voltage terminal on the driving path of the light emitting diode array. 1 resistor, a second resistor provided instead of the constant current source, between the other end of the light emitting diode array and the control terminal of the first transistor, and between the control terminal of the first transistor and the reference voltage terminal. And a second transistor having a voltage corresponding to the voltage drop of the first resistor applied to the control terminal thereof.
The drive circuit may further include a constant current source provided in series with the second resistor between the other end of the light emitting diode array and the control terminal of the first transistor.
Yet another embodiment of the present invention is a light emitting device. This device includes a light-emitting diode array including a plurality of light-emitting diodes connected in series, and the drive circuit according to any one of the above-described modes for driving the light-emitting diode array.

The
The
The

具体的には第1トランジスタ12はNチャンネルMOSFET(Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor)である。
Specifically, the
定電流源16はたとえばCRD(CRD:Current Regulative Diode)であってもよい。

(I) 第1領域

FIG. 3 is a circuit diagram showing a configuration of the drive
The second resistor R2 is provided in series with the constant

FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating operating characteristics of the
First, the operation of the circuit of FIG. 1 in which the third resistor R3 is not provided will be described with reference to a broken line. When the third resistor R3 is not provided, the gate-source voltage Vgs of the
Next, the operation of the circuit of FIG. 3 provided with the third resistor R3 will be described with reference to a solid line. When the
When the drive voltage Vdrv exceeds a certain threshold value, the
That is, by providing the third resistor R3, the gate-source voltage Vgs of the
