Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact water level measurement device which has high measurement accuracy and quickly responds to change in water level.
SOLUTION: A water level measurement device exposes light into a pipe from the bottom part or the top part of a water level detection pipe which is connected at the top part and the bottom part to a vessel whose water level is to be measured and which pipe is made of clear material such as glass with high hydrophilicity. The device reads brightness from the upper end to the lower end of the water level detection pipe with an image sensor installed on the side of the water level detection pipe, and measures water level considering that the water surface is near a location above where the strongest light was sensed.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT

Description

The present invention relates to a water level measuring apparatus using light reflection at an interface.

Conventionally, water level measuring devices include those using ultrasonic waves. (For example, refer to Patent Document 1.)

In the case of using ultrasonic waves, it is necessary to consider the change in the sound speed due to the temperature.
Further, when the water level is changing, the sound speed is slow, so a time lag occurs in the measured value.

An object of the present invention is to realize a compact water level measuring device that has high measurement accuracy and responds quickly to changes in the water level.

The water level measuring device of the present invention irradiates light into the pipe from the lower or upper part of a water level detection tube made of a transparent material such as glass having high hydrophilicity connected to a container for measuring the water level at the upper and lower parts. The brightness from the upper end to the lower end of the water level detection tube is read by an image sensor attached to the side surface of the detection tube, and the water level is measured assuming that there is a water surface near the position where the light is felt most strongly above.

Since the water level measuring device of the present invention uses light, the response is faster than that using ultrasonic waves.
Further, since the intensity distribution of light can be grasped precisely by the image sensor, precise measurement is possible.

Side surface sectional drawing which shows the Example of the water level measuring apparatus of this invention

Hereinafter, embodiments of the water level measuring apparatus of the present invention will be described with reference to examples.

FIG. 1 is a side sectional view showing an embodiment of the water level measuring device of the present invention.

The light radiated into the water level detection tube 1 from the irradiation unit 2 below the water level detection tube 1 is refracted at the boundary between water and the water level detection tube, the boundary between the water level detection tube and air, and the boundary between water and air. The light reflected and emitted outside the water level detection tube is captured by the image sensor 6.

The light captured by the image sensor 6 is strong at a portion where water is pulled up along the wall surface of the water level detection tube 1 by surface tension, extremely weak at the upper side, and gradually weak at the lower side.

As for the signal from the image sensor 6, the position of the peak of the intensity of light above is obtained by the signal processing circuit, and the water level is determined assuming that the water surface is approximately at that position.

Even if the irradiation unit is provided on the upper side, the same result can be obtained if the light is reflected upward on the lower side.
