ろ材1は、ピッチ系活性炭素繊維(株式会社アドール製:A−15)を70重量%と、補強材としてのピッチ系汎用炭素繊維(大阪ガスケミカル株式会社製:ドナカーボ・S)を23重量%と、熱溶融性繊維としてのアクリル繊維7重量%とをから構成されている。そして、その形状は、外径を26mm、内径が9mm、高さを120mmとされている。そして、当該ろ材1の外面には、外面被覆部材2として、ユニチカ株式会社製:エルベスS0503WDO−1050を設けている。本発明の浄水カートリッジはろ材の外面を袋状に外面被覆部材2で覆い、従来の浄水カートリッジはろ材1の外周部表面を外面被覆部材2で覆った。
〔試験条件〕
上述したようなろ材1を備えた従来の浄水カートリッジと、本発明の浄水カートリッジ10に対し、所定量の試験水(遊離残留塩素濃度:2ppm)をろ材1の外側面からろ材1を径方向に通過するように流通させ、ろ材1通過後の浄水の遊離残留塩素除去率が80%(遊離残留塩素濃度:0.4ppm)に低下するまでの積算流量を測定した。
〔試験結果〕
上記試験の結果、浄水の残留塩素除去率が80%以下まで低下する試験水の積算流量は、従来の浄水カートリッジを用いてろ過した場合、1510Lであるのに対し、本発明の浄水カートリッジ10を用いてろ過した場合、1800Lであった。
このことから、従来のものに比べて本発明の浄水カートリッジ10は、ろ過性能を向上できていることが実証できた。
