【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、商品の管理等を行うバーコード等の識別コードを表示する表示体に関し、より詳細には、表示内容を書き換え可能な識別コード表示体に関する。

【従来の技術】
従来から、商品の管理等に用いるために、アルファベット、数字、記号などを一定のアルゴリズムに従って 一次元の白黒のパターン(実際には幅を持つ二次元)や図形の組み合わせ等に置き換え、 コンピュータにデジタルで入力出来るようにしたバーコードやカルラコードの如き識別コードが用いられている。

このような識別コードは、一般的には、ダンボール等の包装材に印刷をしておくか、ラベル(シール)に印刷しておき、包装材に貼り付けて使用するものである。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、このような従来の識別コード表示体は、いったん使用した後は、内容物が変更されてしまうと同じコードは再利用ができない。

このため、識別コードを表示したラベルをケース等に入れて使用し、内容物が変わる度に差し替えることも提案されているが、変更の都度、必要な識別コードの付された表示体を用意しなければならなかった。

【課題を解決するための手段】
請求項1に記載の発明は、識別コード情報が入力される入力手段と、前記識別コード情報に基づき識別コード画像を表示する柔軟性を有する表示手段と、前記識別コード画像を一定時間経過後に変更もしくは消去するタイマーとを具備し、前記表示手段は所定の色の荷電性粒子が封入されたカプセルに対して電気的駆動信号を与えることで画像表示を行い、電気的駆動信号の供給切断後も表示状態を維持する不揮発性を有することを特徴とする識別コード表示体である。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の識別コード表示体の一実施形態を、図面を参照して詳細に説明する。
図1は、本実施例の識別コード表示体の構成を示すブロック図であり、赤外線等で送信されるバーコード(識別コード)の情報を入力する入力部1と、入力部1で受信した識別コードをいったん格納し表示情報として出力する表示制御部2と、表示制御部2からの信号に基づきバーコードを表示する表示部3を備えている。また、時間を管理するためのタイマー4、表示その他全体の制御を行うCPU5を備えている。

図2、図3は識別コード表示体11の外観を示す説明図である。本体12はプラスチック、ポリマー、エラストマー等の材料で、薄く柔軟性を有する構成となっている。表示部13も後述するような柔軟性を有する構造になっており、全体として折り曲げ等が可能な構成となっている。本体12表面には赤外線等の光学的信号が入力可能な信号入力部14が設けられており、ここからバーコードに関する情報を取り込む。

本体12裏面には粘着体からなる取付部15を有する。なお、この取付部はマグネット、フック、粘着テープ、ピン等取付け対象や使用目的に応じて適宜変更可能である。

表示部13は、折り曲げ可能で薄くフレキシブルなものであればよく、表示に際してはバックライトが無くても十分なコントラストを有するものを好適に使用できる。これは柔軟性を有する薄い基板上に、エレクトロルミネセンス材料、ポリマー分散型液晶(PDLC)、ポリマー安定型液晶、スメクティック液晶、強誘電性液晶、マイクロカプセル型電気泳動方式を用いた表示体等を組合せることで実現できる。特に、マイクロカプセル型電気泳動方式を用いた表示体を用いると、従来の紙に近い画像の表示が可能となる。

この、マイクロカプセル型電気泳動方式を用いたディスプレイについて詳細に説明する。
図6は表示部13で用いるディスプレイシート21の説明図である。
ディスプレイシート21では二つの電極シート22、23を用いるが、表示面側の電極シート22は可視光を透過する透明な電極を用いる。電極シート22、23には、図示しないディスプレイドライバに接続されており、各画素に相当する電極間には、ディスプレイドライバにより、画素情報に相当する電界が与えられる。電極シート22、23間には、高分子樹脂層24によってユリア樹脂やアラビアゴムからなり可視光を透過する透明・球状のマイクロカプセル25が保持されている。

このマイクロカプセル25の内部には酸化チタンからなる白の粒子26とカーボンブラックからなる黒の粒子27が封入されている。白の粒子26は正電荷を帯びており、一方黒の粒子27は負電荷を帯びている。そのため、二つの電極シート22,23に電界を印加し、電極シート22が負極、電極シート23が正極になった場合、正に帯電した白の粒子26が電極シート22側に引かれ、黒の粒子27が電極シート23側に引かれるので、観察者28からはその部分が白く見える。

逆に電極シート22が正極、電極シート23が負極になった場合、正に帯電した白の粒子26が電極シート23側に引かれ、黒の粒子27が電極シート22側に引かれるので、観察者28からは黒く見えることになる。ディスプレイシート21はこのようなマイクロカプセル25を多数有しており、電極シート22,23の各アドレスの電界を制御することで、図6で「AB」という文字を黒で表示したように、所望の文字や図形等を白と黒の画素で表示させることができる。

なお、各粒子は、一度電界を印加した後は、電源が切断されても粒子の位置が変化しないので、電源を切ってもバーコード等の表示画像が消えない不揮発性を有する。そのため、画像表示を継続させるための電力が不用であり、画像を変える際でも、異なった画素にあたる個所の電極位置の部分のみに電界を印加して画像を変化させれば良いので、通常のディスプレイに比べて大幅に省電力化を図ることが可能である。

さらに、ディスプレイシート21内においては、マイクロカプセル25の位置配置は多少の変動があっても表示に問題は生じない。したがって電極シート22、23を含め、ディスプレイシート21全体を薄く可撓性を持たせる材料を用いることで、紙のような柔軟性を持たせることができる。

また、黒い粒子27のカーボンブラックは、通常の印刷を行うインクと同じ材料であるので、極めて紙の印刷物に近い自然な表示を行うことが可能となる。

次に、上記のように構成した識別コード表示体11の動作について説明する。
入力部1(信号入力部14)に赤外線等の信号により表示したいバーコードの信号が入力されると、CPU5の制御により、表示制御部2で画像信号化され、表示部3(表示部13)に送られる。表示部13では、上述したように、所定の色の荷電性粒子が封入されたカプセルに対して電気的駆動信号を与えることで画像表示を行うようになっており、白と黒の粒子でバーコードを表示する。

いったん、入力部1から信号が入力され、バーコードの表示がなされた後は、信号の入力がなくなったり、電源を切った場合でも、表示部3(表示部13)の不揮発性により、バーコードは表示されたままである。そのため、CPU5の制御で、新たな信号の入力が無い場合は電源を切ったり、入力部1のみスタンバイ状態にしておく。

なお、タイマー4を利用することで、例えば一定時間経過後にバーコードを変更したり、消去したりすることが可能である。これは、予め時間を設定しておくか、入力部1から時間データを入力しておき、CPU5がタイマー4を利用して、この設定時間の経過を監視する。設定時間が経過したら、CPU5は表示制御部2にバーコード画像の書換えを指示する。これによって、例えば消費期限の過ぎた商品を誤って販売するなどのミスを防ぐことが可能となる。

以上のように、本実施形態の識別コード表示体は、電気泳動式の表示部13が不揮発性を有しており、電源を切ってもそのまま表示画像が残存するので、データ書換えの際にのみ電源を入れればよく、電源の消費が少なくてすむものである。
そのため、軽量かつ薄くすることができるので、持ち運びも容易であり、柔軟性を有することから紙のバーコードラベルと同様に扱うことができる。
