Description
【0001】
図2(a)参照

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, and in particular, a perpendicular magnetic recording medium characterized by a laminated structure for realizing low noise and high coercive force of a perpendicular magnetic recording medium used in a high recording density hard disk device. It is about.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, the capacity of magnetic recording / reproducing apparatuses has been increasing rapidly, and perpendicular recording has attracted attention in order to increase the recording density of magnetic recording media as the capacity increases.
[0003]
In such a perpendicular magnetic recording media has been studied that use a Co-Pt alloy as the recording layer, Co-Pt alloy in it depends Although the Pt content of about 10~40At% in
[0004]
Furthermore, in order to make this a low-noise medium, it is necessary to magnetically isolate the magnetic grains by some method instead of a continuous film.
[0005]
for that reason,
(1) A method of using Cr grain boundary segregation by adding Cr to Co—Pt (see, for example, Patent Document 1),
(2) A method in which Co—Pt is formed in an Ar atmosphere containing a small amount of O 2 and oxygen precipitation at grain boundaries is used (see, for example,
Etc. have been proposed.

Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-057569
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The above method (2) does not particularly require heating, and therefore there are many advantages including cost in consideration of mass production. However, according to the examination results of the present inventors, there are the following problems.
That is,
a. Increasing the O 2 mixing ratio can reduce the cluster size, but excessive mixing degrades H C (coercivity).
b. Compared with Cr segregation, the effect of separating grains is small.
[0008]
Therefore, the above ▲ 2 ▼ sufficiently low noise and H C by the method of producing a high medium that while utilizing oxygen precipitation even in parallel with it make up a magnetic isolation of the grain between another way I think it is necessary.
[0009]
Accordingly, the present inventor has found that providing an unevenness control layer using an oxide or nitride as an intermediate layer or an underlayer is effective in reducing noise (separately preparing for application).
[0010]
That is, an unevenness control layer made of oxide or nitride is inserted under a recording layer made of a Co / Pd multilayer film or a Co / Pt multilayer film to form an unevenness, and the unevenness is also introduced into the recording layer by the unevenness. It is considered that the unevenness becomes a pinning site of the domain wall and reduces the magnetic cluster size.
[0011]
In addition, there is a problem that the orientation of the recording layer is not always sufficient with the unevenness control layer alone, and the reduction of medium noise is not always sufficient.
[0012]
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to reduce the magnetic cluster size without deteriorating the coercive force, and to enhance the orientation of the recording layer to reduce noise.
[0013]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Here, the perpendicular magnetic recording medium according to the first embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3. FIG. 3 is an explanatory diagram of the dependence of the medium noise N m on the linear recording density in the obtained perpendicular magnetic recording medium. For comparison, a 5 nm Ru orientation control without providing an SiO x unevenness control layer is shown. An example in which only a layer is provided is also shown.
Here, an SPT (single pole type) head having a read core width of 0.3 μm and a write core width of 0.5 μm was used as the magnetic head, and the measurement was performed under the conditions of a disk rotational speed of 6500 rpm, a radial position of 20 mm, and a Yaw angle of 0 °.
[0027]
As is clear from the figure, when the SiO x unevenness control layer is provided, the medium noise N m [μVrms] can be reduced by 10 to 30% compared to the case of using only the Ru orientation control layer, It can be seen that the reduction rate increases as the recording density [kFCI] increases.

Next, with reference to FIG. 6 and FIG. 7, the third embodiment of the present invention relating to the manufacturing condition dependency of the unevenness control layer will be described. Since this is the same as that of the first embodiment, description of the structure is omitted.

FIG. 6 is an explanatory view of the process gas pressure dependence of the coercive force H c of the perpendicular magnetic recording medium according to the third embodiment of the present invention. As the process gas pressure increases, the coercive force H c increases. By improving the process gas pressure from 0.5 Pa to 2 Pa, the coercive force H c was improved by 2.1 [kOe].
[0036]
FIG. 7 is an explanatory diagram of the process gas pressure dependency of the medium S / N ratio (S / N m ) of the perpendicular magnetic recording medium according to the third embodiment of the present invention. Here, 200 kFCI line recording is illustrated. It shows the change in the S / N m in density.
As is apparent from the figure, the S / N m can be improved by 6.9 dB by changing the process gas pressure from 0.5 Pa to 2 Pa.

[0038]
Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited to the configurations and conditions described in the embodiments, and various modifications can be made.
For example, in each of the embodiments described above, a glass substrate is used as the substrate, but for example, a crystallized glass substrate or a tempered glass substrate may be used as the glass substrate.
[0039]
Furthermore, the present invention is not limited to a glass substrate, and may be any non-magnetic substrate. For example, a metal substrate such as an Al—Mg alloy substrate may be used.
[0041]
In each of the above embodiments, Ru or Ru 80 Co 20 is used as the orientation control layer. However, the material is not limited to these materials and may be a metal having the same hcp structure as the crystal structure of the recording layer. Ru—Cr or Co—Cr may be used, and the composition ratio in this case includes the case of Ru—Co and the lattice ratio depends on the lattice constant of the recording layer provided on the orientation control layer. What is necessary is just to determine suitably so that mismatch may be reduced.
[0042]
In each of the above embodiments, Co—Cr—Pt—O is used as the recording layer. However, the recording layer is not limited to Co—Cr—Pt—O, and an alloy magnetic material containing at least Co and Pt. Co-Pt, Co-Pt-O, or the like may be used.
[0043]
In each of the above embodiments, Ar is used as an inert gas constituting the process gas. However, the present invention is not limited to Ar, and other rare gases such as Ne, Kr, or Xe are used. It is good.
[0045]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, since the concavity and convexity control layer is provided under the recording layer made of the Co—Pt alloy magnetic material, the coercive force H c is deteriorated even in the case of the recording layer made of the Co—Pt alloy magnetic material. Without decreasing the magnetic cluster size, and by providing an orientation control layer between the recording layer and the concavo-convex control layer, the perpendicular orientation can be maintained and the medium noise N m can be reduced. As a result, it greatly contributes to the realization of a high-density recording magnetic recording / reproducing apparatus.
