【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is configured by laminating a unit fuel cell constituted by sandwiching a solid polymer electrolyte membrane between an anode side electrode and a cathode side electrode, and a separator sandwiching the unit fuel cell in the horizontal direction. In particular, the present invention relates to a fuel cell stack suitable for in-vehicle use.
[0002]
[Prior art]
For example, a solid polymer type fuel cell has a unit fuel cell formed by arranging an anode side electrode and a cathode side electrode on both sides of an electrolyte composed of a polymer ion exchange membrane (cation exchange membrane), and a separator. In general, a predetermined number of the unit fuel cells are stacked and used as a fuel cell stack.
[0003]
In this type of fuel cell stack, the fuel gas supplied to the anode side electrode, for example, a gas mainly containing hydrogen (hereinafter referred to as hydrogen-containing gas) is appropriately humidified by hydrogen ionization on the catalyst electrode. It moves to the cathode side electrode side through the electrolyte. Electrons generated in the meantime are taken out to an external circuit and used as direct current electric energy. Since the oxidant gas, for example, a gas mainly containing oxygen (hereinafter referred to as oxygen-containing gas) or air is supplied to the cathode side electrode, hydrogen ions, electrons and oxygen are supplied to the cathode side electrode. Reaction produces water.
[0004]
In the fuel cell stack described above, an internal manifold may be configured to supply fuel gas and oxidant gas (reactive gas) to the anode side electrode and cathode side electrode of each unit fuel cell stacked. Has been done. Specifically, the internal manifold includes a plurality of communication holes provided integrally connected to the stacked unit fuel cells and separators, and the reaction gas is supplied to the supply communication holes. Then, the reaction gas is supplied in a distributed manner for each unit fuel cell, while the used reaction gas is integrally discharged into the discharge communication hole.
[0005]
By the way, in particular, reaction product water generated on the electrode power generation surface is easily introduced into the communication hole through which the oxidant gas flows, and in many cases, stagnant water exists in the communication hole. On the other hand, stagnant water due to condensation or the like may be generated in the communication hole through which the fuel gas flows. For this reason, it has been pointed out that the communication hole is reduced or blocked by the staying water, the flow of the reaction gas is hindered, and the power generation performance is lowered.
[0006]
Therefore, for example, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 8-138869, there is known a fuel cell in which a hydrophilic film is provided on a fuel gas channel and an oxidizing gas channel formed on a stacked surface of a collector electrode. ing. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 15, fuel gas supply /

[0010]
The present invention solves this type of problem, has a smooth and reliable drainage function, shortens the dimension in the height direction as much as possible, and effectively reduces the thickness of the separator. An object is to provide a possible fuel cell stack.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In the fuel cell stack of the present invention, the reaction gas containing fuel gas or oxidant gas is penetrated through the outer peripheral edge of the side portion of the separator. The reaction gas supply communication hole to be supplied and the reaction gas are discharged. for Reaction gas discharge A communication hole is provided and this Reaction gas supply hole and this reaction gas discharge The communication hole communicates with a gas flow path for flowing the reaction gas in the direction of gravity while being folded back horizontally in the electrode power generation surface of the separator. For this reason, the dimension of the height direction of a separator can be shortened effectively, and it becomes possible to comprise the fuel cell stack suitable for vehicle-mounted use.
[0012]
Therefore, when the fuel cell stack is inclined due to the posture of the vehicle or the like, the dew condensation water of the reaction product water staying in the communication hole may flow backward to the gas flow path and the power generation performance may be reduced. At that time, a porous water-absorbing tube for discharging the generated water is disposed in the communication hole. Accordingly, the water introduced into the communication hole penetrates into the porous water absorption tube by a capillary phenomenon, and the water is pushed out toward the outlet side of the communication hole due to the pressure difference of the reaction gas in the communication hole.
[0013]
As a result, the water in the communication hole is surely discharged from the communication hole due to the capillary phenomenon and the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream of the reaction gas, and the water is prevented from flowing back into the gas flow path, thereby improving the power generation performance. It becomes possible to maintain it effectively.
[0014]
The gas flow path is provided in the direction of gravity while meandering in the horizontal direction, and the porous water absorption pipe The body has a part extending from the fuel cell stack to the outside. Above the reaction gas discharge hole Arrangement Has been. For this reason, various pipes can be effectively gathered on the side of the fuel cell stack, the height dimension of the entire fuel cell stack is not increased, and the degree of freedom of the pipe layout is improved.

【The invention's effect】
In the fuel cell stack according to the present invention, by providing a communication hole for flowing the reaction gas in the outer peripheral edge of the side portion of the separator, the height dimension can be shortened as much as possible and the thickness can be easily reduced. Figured. Furthermore, the water in the communication hole can be smoothly and reliably discharged by the capillary phenomenon and the pressure difference of the reaction gas through the porous water absorption tube disposed in the communication hole. As a result, even if the fuel cell stack is tilted due to the inclination of the vehicle, it effectively prevents the back flow of water into the gas flow path, ensures power generation performance, and greatly improves drainage with a simple configuration. It becomes possible to make it.
