Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus and an image quality adjusting method, and in particular, an image forming apparatus using an exposure device such as an LED print head having a plurality of light emitting points as an exposure device, and image quality adjustment in the image forming device. Regarding the method.
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, so-called tandem image forming apparatuses have been developed as image forming apparatuses for laser printers and digital multi-function peripherals, in which a plurality of image forming units are arranged in series to form a full color image in one pass. The four photoconductors are independently exposed and developed by Y, M, C, and K image data sent from the data control unit, and then sequentially transferred onto the intermediate transfer belt. The full-color image created on the intermediate transfer belt is batch-transferred onto the sheet at the secondary transfer position and then fixed on the sheet by a fixing device.
In this tandem type image forming apparatus, an apparatus using an LED print head as an exposure device has been developed as means for realizing miniaturization of the apparatus itself.
For example,
However, if an image forming unit such as an exposure device is disposed below the photoconductor, the image forming unit cannot be accessed from above the image forming apparatus, and the mounting / removing direction thereof is within a horizontal plane (a direction parallel to the arrangement of the image forming units). Therefore, the configuration is complicated from the viewpoint of assembly and maintenance.
On the other hand, in
With such a configuration, the positional relationship of the LED array can be accurately maintained, but the mounting configuration becomes complicated and the cost is increased, and the occupied space including the holding base becomes large. In order to simplify the mounting configuration, it is desirable to mount the four LED arrays independently. However, there are items to be considered in order to suppress image quality defects caused by the positioning accuracy of the LED arrays.
The first is image streaks that occur parallel to the paper transport direction. This is a phenomenon in which the exposure amount becomes non-uniform in the LED arrangement direction due to the difference in the amount of light between the dots of the LEDs, the transmission of the used SELFOC lens, and the variation in imaging characteristics, and the density unevenness becomes an image streak. Therefore, as a mounting configuration, it is important to position the relative distance between the LED print head having a shallow depth of focus and the photosensitive member with high accuracy.
The second is density unevenness perpendicular to the paper transport direction. This image quality defect is not a problem inherent to an image forming apparatus using an LED print head, but also occurs when a laser scanning device is used as an exposure unit.
FIG. 10 conceptually shows the configuration of the image forming unit using the LED print head. The
FIG. 11 is a diagram for explaining the mechanism of image formation. Here, for convenience of explanation, an
In consideration of the above-described facts, the present invention can adjust the distance from the exposure point to the transfer point, and can suppress an image quality defect (density variation) due to the speed variation of the photosensitive member, and the image quality in the image forming device. An object is to obtain an adjustment method.
According to the first aspect of the present invention, the photosensitive member having an outer peripheral surface that is a cylindrical surface to be exposed, and a plurality of light emitting points that are opposed to the surface to be exposed, emit light corresponding to image information. An exposure device that irradiates a surface to be exposed by irradiation from a point; a developing device that develops the exposed surface exposed by the exposure device; and a transfer member to which an image on the exposed surface by the developing device is transferred A housing which is rotatably mounted on the central axis of the photoconductor and holds the exposure unit so that the light emitting point moves on a circumference around the central axis of the photoconductor, and a contact with the housing And positioning means for positioning and fixing the exposure device at a predetermined fixed position.
In this image forming apparatus, the exposure surface of the photosensitive member is exposed by an exposure device, and further developed by a developing device, and the obtained image is transferred to a transfer member.
A housing is rotatably mounted on the central axis of the photoconductor, and the exposure unit is held by the housing so that the light emission point moves on a circumference around the central axis of the photoconductor. . Therefore, by this movement, the exposure point is moved to an arbitrary position, and the distance from the exposure point to the transfer point (primary transfer point to the member to be transferred) is fixed at a position that is an integral multiple of the speed fluctuation cycle of the photoconductor. Thus, it is possible to obtain a good image state by suppressing the density fluctuation accompanying the speed fluctuation of the photoreceptor.
In the invention described in claim 2, in the invention described in
As described above, the photosensitive member and the exposure device are integrally held by the housing, so that the relative positions thereof can be maintained with high accuracy.
The invention according to claim 3 is the invention according to claim 2, wherein the positioning means is capable of adjusting the fixed position of the housing .
By making it possible to adjust the fixing position of the housing , it is possible to absorb the variation between them and obtain a good image.
The invention according to claim 4 is the invention according to any one of
Generally, fluctuations in the speed of the photoreceptor that cause density unevenness occur in the drive unit of the image forming apparatus. The state of the transfer point is also affected by the distortion of the housing. As described above, there are many image quality fluctuation factors on the apparatus main body side. According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, when the positioning means is provided in the housing, the positioning reference for determining the exposure point remains in the housing. Therefore, even if the integrated photoconductor and the exposure device are replaced. Adjusted image quality is maintained.
Further, in a state where the photosensitive member and the exposure unit are integrated by the housing, by detachable from the housing by the housing, or to allow separable exposure unit relative to the photosensitive member, and releases the pressing state A mechanism (such as a retract mechanism) is not required, and the mounting structure can be simplified.
The invention according to claim 5 is the invention according to claim 4, wherein the positioning means is provided on the housing attachment / detachment operation side of the housing .
As a result, the positioning means is arranged on the side where the housing is easily accessible, so that the manufacturing process, the inspection process, and the maintenance process (such as density unevenness adjustment during use) can be easily performed.
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, there is provided an image forming unit comprising at least the photosensitive member, the exposure device, and the developing device according to any one of the first to fifth aspects. A plurality of photoconductors arranged in parallel with each other, and the transfer member is arranged so that the plurality of photoconductors are in contact with each other. .
That is, this image forming apparatus is a tandem type image forming apparatus in which image forming units are arranged in tandem. Thereby, it is possible to form an image of a plurality of colors (for example, full color).
Then, by adjusting the exposure point by moving the light emission point in each of the image forming units, it is possible to obtain a plurality of high-quality images.
According to a seventh aspect of the invention, there is provided an image quality adjustment method for an image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to sixth aspects, wherein a predetermined density unevenness test pattern is output, and based on the output result. Then, the image quality is adjusted by rotating the exposure unit on the circumference.
As this density unevenness test pattern, a pattern that can easily detect uneven rotation speed of the photosensitive member can be used. Then, by adjusting the image quality by rotating the exposure unit on the circumference based on the output result, the exposure point can be adjusted reliably and efficiently.
Since the present invention is configured as described above, the distance from the exposure point to the transfer point can be adjusted, and image quality defects (density fluctuations) due to fluctuations in the speed of the photoreceptor can be suppressed.
FIG. 1 shows an
The
As shown in FIGS. 2 to 4, the
The
The
As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, a
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 5, the
As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the
Since the
FIG. 5 shows the positioning portion of the
As shown in detail in FIG. 6, the
A
In the state where the adjustment is completed, the
In the
For example, this position adjustment may be performed in advance in a predetermined position in the manufacturing process of the
In this embodiment, as an example, since the speed variation period of the
FIG. 7 partially shows the image forming apparatus according to the second embodiment of the present invention. In the second embodiment, since only the configuration of the positioning unit that positions the
In the second embodiment, the holding
In general, the
In each embodiment of the present invention, at least the
In such a configuration in which the
Of course, in the present invention, the
