通常、画像形成装置本体Aの電源が投入されているときにはHDD1、警報装置ユニット2及び操作部4に本体A側から電力供給を行って、充電式補助電源3は充電動作を行っている。しかしながら電源オフや電源コードを抜かれて本体Aに電力が供給されなくなった場合には、図示しない制御手段(CPU)により、HDD1、警報装置ユニット2及び操作部4には充電式補助電源3から電力が供給されるようになっており、HDD1を外す際に必要な認証処理動作及び警報動作は何ら問題なく行うことができる。
そして上述したように、HDD1、警報装置ユニット2、充電式補助電源3は近接配置され、且つ全てが共通の外装カバー6のみで覆われており、HDD1、警報装置ユニット2、充電式補助電源3のどれか一つだけ外す場合にも外装カバー6を取り外したり、分解しなければならない構成となっている。
このような構成にすることにより、警報装置ユニット2または充電式補助電源ユニット3だけを先に外され、警報装置ユニット2が動作しない状態でHDD1を取り外される事態が生じるのを防止することができる。
