本発明は、操作キーを有する携帯電話機等のような携帯端末装置および携帯電子装置に関するものである。

一般に、携帯電話機等からなる携帯端末装置は、複数の操作キーが設けられており、これら操作キーは、暗闇等で使用する場合にも明確に視認できるように照明装置を備えている。
照明装置としては、各操作キーに対し一定の照度で照明する必要があると共に、複数の操作キーをむらなく一様に照明する必要がある。

そのため、従来の携帯端末装置は、基板1上に多数配設された発光ダイオード(LED)からなる光源2を有し、それら各光源2が、基板1上に配置されるキーシート3の操作キー4に向かうように照明し、これによって、操作キー4が筐体5のキー挿通穴6から突出したとき、操作キー4の表示が確認できるようになっている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、上記従来の携帯端末装置は、多数からなる光源2の照明によって操作キー4を照明するよう構成しているので、それだけ多くの光源が必要となっていた。しかも、光源2は、キーシート3上の操作キー4付近に配置され、下から上方に照射して操作キー4の近傍(符号7の部分)を照明するので、操作キーに照明むらが生じる問題があった。

本発明は、上記従来技術の問題点に鑑み、少ない光源で、かつ照明むらのない略一様な照明を実現できる携帯端末装置および電子機器を提供することを課題とする。

上記課題を解決するために、請求項1記載の本発明は、基板上に配置されて複数の操作キーを有したキーシートと、前記キーシートを挟んで前記基板上に搭載され互いに向き合って、前記キーシートの短手方向に沿って延び、前記キーシートの長手方向に向けて光を照射する一対の光源と、前記キーシートを覆って前記基板の上方に配置された透光性の前面ケースとを備え、前記前面ケースには、前記操作キーが挿通されたキー挿通穴と、前記光源を収納した光源収納凹部とが設けられ、前記前面ケースの表層部には、前記光源からの照射光が前記前面ケースの外部に漏れるのを防ぐための塗装膜が施されており、前記光源からの照射光が、前記光源収納凹部の周端面から前記前面ケースを透過して前記キー挿通穴の周端面より導出し、導出した光が前記操作キーの周側面を照明するように構成されたことを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態を、図面に基づいて説明する。図1〜図3は本発明による携帯端末装置を携帯電話機に適用した一実施の形態を示し、図1は携帯電話機の筐体とキーシートと基板とを示す分解斜視図、図2は基板,キーシート,筐体を組み込んだ状態を示す要部の斜視図、図3は同じく基板とキーシートと筐体とを組み込んだ場合の照明時の作用説明図である。
図1において、符号11は携帯電話機の前面ケースをなす筐体、12は複数の操作キー13a〜13cを有するキーシート、14は基板であり、筐体11の内側に図2に示すように、キーシート12が配置されると共にそのキーシート12の下方に基板14が配置される。基板14の下方は図示しない背面ケースで覆われる。

筐体11には、キーシート12に設けられた操作キー13a〜13cと対応する位置にキー挿通穴15が形成され、筐体11内にキーシート12を組み込んだとき、操作キー13a〜13cは、図2及び図3に示すように、キー挿通穴15に挿通し、上面が外方に露出した状態となる。

操作キー13a〜13cは、キーシート12にこれと一体的に上方に突設されており、その表面側には電話番号,記号等が表記され、使用者が筐体11の外部から押下して操作することにより、所望の機能が得られるようになっている。

基板14は、携帯電話機としての通信機能等を有するのに必要な回路に構成され、その上面には光源16を有する照明装置(符示せず)が備えられている。
光源16は、基板14において長手方向の両側に互いに対向するように配設された発光ダイオード等からなっており、点灯時、その照明光が筐体11を透過してキーシート12上の操作キー13a〜13cを照明するようになっている。

つまり、光源16は、点灯時、基板14面に沿い互いに図1の矢印Aの方向に対向するよう照射し、しかも図2に示すようにある照射有効角度θをもって各操作キー13a〜13c側に向かって照明することができるようにしている。

したがって、この実施形態においては、照明装置は、光源16からの照射光が筐体11中を通って筐体11のキー挿通穴15を形成する周端面15aに導かれることにより、操作キー13a〜13cの周側面に当たり、これによって操作キー13a〜13cの周側面を照明するようになっている。

そのため、筐体11としては、光源16からの照明光を透過し得るような材料で構成され、例えば透明なポリカーボネート、あるいはアクリル等の合成樹脂で形成されている他、図3に示すように、基板14上の光源16と対応する位置に光源収納凹部17が設けられている。

一方、筐体11の表面部には、外観が良好となるよう塗装膜18が施されている。この塗装膜18は、筐体11のデザインを決定すべく種々の色に選定される。また、塗装膜18は、光源16からの照明時、筐体11中を透過している光が筐体11から外部(前方)へ漏れることのないようになっており、したがって、光源16と共に照明装置の一構成要素もなしている。

上記のように構成された携帯電話機は、基板14上に配設された光源16が点灯すると、その照射光で操作キー13a〜13cが照明される。
その場合、光源16からの照射光が、図3に示す矢印Aのように側方に照射されるので、筐体11内を透過すると共に、透過した光が筐体11のキー挿通穴15を形成する周端面15aから外方に導出(図2,図3のハッチング部分)されることにより、操作キー13a〜13cの周側面を照明することとなる。

また、基板14の長手方向の一端側に配置された一方の光源のみならず、他端側に配置された光源も点灯し、筐体11に対し反対側から透過して照明するので、操作キー13a〜13cの周囲に対し均一でかつむらのない照明を的確に行うことができる。

したがって、光源16からの照射光が筐体11を透過すると共に、透過した光が操作キー13a〜13cの周側面を照明するので、光源16が上方に向けて照明する従来技術と異なり、多くの光源を必要とせず、少ない光源で確実に照明することができ、しかも、操作キー13a〜13cに対しむらのない略均一な照明を実現することができる。

一方、筐体11の表層部に塗装膜18が設けられており、この塗装膜18の色を変更することで携帯電話機としての塗装デザインのカスタマイズが可能となる。
これに加え、塗装膜18は、照明時、筐体11を透過している光が外方に漏れることを防止できるので、少ない光源での照明をいっそう的確に行うことができる。

なお、図示実施形態では、携帯電話機に適用した例を示したが、PHSに利用しても同様である。また、携帯端末装置以外として、例えばモバイルと称される携帯情報端末(PDF),或いはノート形パソコン,電子辞書等のような携帯電子機器に利用することもできる。

【発明の効果】
以上説明したように、本発明によれば、光源からの照射光が前面ケースを透過すると共に、透過した光が操作キーの周側面を照明するように構成したので、多くの光源を必要とせず、少ない光源で確実に照明することができ、しかも操作キーに対しむらのない略均一な照明を実現することができる効果がある。特に、極力少ない光源で照明できることにより、省電力化を実現し得るという副次的効果もある。
