BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fluorescent display tube, a driving method thereof, and a driving circuit.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The fluorescent display tube is an electron tube that uses light emitted by causing electrons emitted from an electron emission portion to collide with a fluorescent substance in a vacuum container at least one of which is transparent. As this fluorescent display tube, a triode structure having a grid for controlling the action of electrons is most often used. Conventionally, a filament cathode that emits thermoelectrons by energization heating has been used for the electron emission portion of a fluorescent display tube. Recently, carbon nanotubes have been used as a material for dramatically improving the brightness of a fluorescent display tube. A fluorescent display tube using an electron emission material such as a field emission type electron emission material has been proposed and attracted attention.

Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.

[0028]
By such a driving method, the anode voltage was changed in the range of 10 kV to 40 kV, and the presence or absence of discharge from the glass tube wall was confirmed. In this case, the cathode voltage was in the range of −2.5 kV to −4.0 kV. As a result, in the conventional fluorescent display tube without the cylindrical electrode shown in FIG. 6, discharge from the glass tube wall may occur when the anode voltage is higher than 20 kV. In the fluorescent display tube of this embodiment, however, Even when the anode voltage was increased to 40 kV, discharge from the glass tube wall did not occur.
[0029]
The reason why discharge from the glass tube wall can be prevented by such a cylindrical electrode will be described. In the conventional fluorescent display tube shown in FIG. 6, among the electrons emitted from the field emission electron emission material and passed through the electron extraction electrode, electrons having a large velocity component in the glass tube wall direction collide with the glass tube wall. Since these electrons have energy of several keV, when they collide with the glass tube wall, more secondary electrons than the collided electrons are emitted from the glass tube wall, and the colliding part is positively charged. Since the glass tube wall is insulative, the electric charge does not escape from the charged portion, the charging voltage (positive potential) continues to rise due to electron collision, and finally a discharge occurs between the glass tube wall and the electron extraction electrode or the grid housing.
[0030]
On the other hand, in the fluorescent display tube of this embodiment, the

However, the cylindrical electrode is not limited to this as long as it can accommodate at least the electron extraction electrodes (111, 211). For example, the cross-sectional shape may be an ellipse or a polygon, and a part of the cylindrical portion may be a mesh shape. Further, the constituent material is not limited to stainless steel, and other conductive materials may be used. In addition, although constituent members other than the cylindrical electrode are the same as those in the conventional example shown in FIG. 6, these members may be replaced with members used in known fluorescent display tubes. For example, the field emission type electron-emitting material is not limited to columnar graphite including carbon nanotubes obtained by arc discharge, and carbon nanotubes produced by other well-known manufacturing methods such as CVD may be used. . Further, the material is not limited to the carbon nanotube, and other known materials that can be used as a field emission electron source may be used.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, the fluorescent display tube according to the present invention includes a cylindrical electrode extending at least on the anode side from the electron extraction electrode and having an opening facing the anode in the envelope. Electrons emitted from the electrodes do not collide with nearby glass tube walls and charge the glass tube walls. For this reason, since discharge from the glass tube wall to the electron extraction electrode can be eliminated, the luminance can be improved by increasing the anode voltage without damaging the field emission type electron emission material.
[0042]
In addition, since the electron extraction electrode is disposed inside the cylindrical electrode so as to be separated from the cylindrical electrode, it is possible to eliminate discharge from the glass tube wall to the electron extraction electrode. The luminance can be improved by increasing the anode voltage without damaging the electrode. Also,According to the reference example:Since the mesh-shaped conductive member is provided in the opening facing the anode side of the cylindrical electrode spaced apart from the electron extraction electrode, the cylindrical electrode serves as a shield and the electron extraction electrode from discharge from the glass tube wall near the anode or anode Can be protected. For this reason, since an anode voltage can be raised further, the brightness | luminance improvement can be aimed at further.
[0043]
In addition, since the fluorescent display tube driving method according to the present invention applies a preset DC voltage within a predetermined range centered on the ground potential to the electron extraction electrode, in addition to improving the luminance, the electron current irradiated to the anode Can be widened or converged, and the expansion or reduction of the light emitting area can be adjusted. Further, since the cathode potential is controlled so as to keep the current flowing between the cathode and the electron extraction electrode constant, the anode current can be kept constant, and the effect of stabilizing the luminance can be obtained.
[0044]
In addition, the drive circuit for the fluorescent display tube according to the present invention includes the electron extraction electrode power source for applying a preset DC voltage within a predetermined range centered on the ground potential to the electron extraction electrode, and therefore the anode is irradiated. It becomes possible to widen or converge the electron flow, and in addition to improving the luminance, it is possible to adjust the expansion or reduction of the light emitting region. In addition, since the cathode power source capable of changing the voltage and a control circuit for controlling the cathode power source so as to keep the current flowing between the cathode and the electron extraction electrode constant, the anode current can be kept constant, The effect of stabilizing the brightness is obtained.
