Description
【0001】

なお、図1(B)は図1(A)のA−A’線断面図であり、図1(C)は、図1(A)のB−B’線断面図である。
【0047】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an organic EL light emitting device that performs planar light emission using an organic EL element, and more particularly to an organic EL light emitting device suitable as a backlight of a non-self light emitting display device such as a liquid crystal display device (LCD). .
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, a combination of a fluorescent tube and a light guide plate, a flat fluorescent tube, or the like is used as a flat white light source for an LCD backlight. For obtaining white light emission, for example, a fluorescent tube using light emission from the gas phase is more advantageous than a solid light emitting device such as an EL light emitting device, and a fluorescent tube is used in many LCDs. However, it is difficult to further reduce the thickness of a combination of a fluorescent tube and a light guide plate (or a reflection plate) used as a general backlight or a flat fluorescent tube. That is, there is a limit to making the fluorescent tube thin (thin), and there is a limit to reducing the thickness of the light guide plate in order to obtain as uniform planar light emission as possible.
[0003]
Thus, some small liquid crystal display devices (LCDs) use inorganic EL elements (electro-luminescence elements) as backlights, and these EL elements are used as planar light emitters for backlights. It has been difficult to make the LCD having a backlight sufficiently thin by using it. Moreover, since the backlight using the inorganic EL element currently commercialized has a color such as green instead of white, it has been difficult to display multiple colors on the LCD.
[0004]
For these reasons, white light-emitting elements using thin EL elements have been studied as backlights for LCDs. In addition, inorganic EL elements and organic EL elements are known as EL elements. However, the organic EL elements are superior in terms of light emission efficiency and thinning, and the organic EL elements emit white light. A light emitter is being developed. The organic EL element includes, for example, a transparent electrode (anode) made of indium-tin oxide (ITO) on a glass substrate, an organic EL light emitting layer made of a hole transport layer, a light emitting layer, an electron transport layer, and the like, A back electrode (cathode) made of a metal having a work function is laminated. Further, the organic EL light emitting element is driven by a direct current when a voltage is applied and a current flows.
[0005]
The light emission of the organic EL element occurs when holes injected from the transparent electrode and electrons injected from the back electrode are recombined in the organic EL light emitting layer to excite a light emitting material such as a fluorescent dye as a light emission center. . The organic EL light emitting layer includes a two-layer structure in addition to the three-layer structure as described above.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, although the light emission color of an organic EL element is fundamentally determined by the kind of light-emitting material, for example, the above-mentioned fluorescent dye etc., the light emitting material which light-emits white is not known at present, and in an organic EL element, it is white. In order to obtain this light emission, white light emission is obtained by mixing a plurality of light emitting materials. That is, for example, a light emitting layer is formed in a state in which each light emitting material emitting light of red, green, blue (RGB) or the like is mixed (or each dopant of RGB is introduced into the light emitting layer), or the light emitting layer is formed. At the time of formation, white light emission has been obtained by stacking layers including respective light emitting materials that emit light of red, green, blue, and the like.
[0007]
However, the organic EL element formed by mixing a plurality of light emitting materials in this manner has increased non-light emitting transition in the organic EL layer, and at present, a highly efficient element has not been obtained. That is, the organic EL element that emits white light as described above has a lower luminance at the same power consumption than a normal organic EL element that includes one kind of light emitting material without mixing a plurality of light emitting materials. It was. Therefore, the organic EL element that emits white light is in a state where it is difficult to put it to practical use for reasons such as insufficient luminance and high power consumption.
[0008]
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and provides an organic EL light-emitting device that can be used as a planar light-emitting body that emits white light and that can achieve high luminance with low power consumption. With the goal.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The organic EL light-emitting device according to
The organic EL light emitting region includes an organic EL light emitting layer, an anode and a cathode disposed so as to sandwich the organic EL light emitting layer, and a protruding portion protruding between the organic EL light emitting regions on the transparent substrate; The projecting portion surrounds the organic EL light emitting regionOne endonlyA partition having a stripe-shaped opening in which the cathode is separated in each organic EL light-emitting region in the protruding portion is formed along the organic EL light-emitting region, and the cathode is formed in the organic EL The open end of the partition wall is formed on the transparent substrate from above the light emitting region, the partition wall and the open end of the partition wall.onlyIn which the cathodes of each organic EL light emitting region are short-circuited.
[0010]
According to the above configuration, since two or more types of organic EL light emitting regions that emit light of different colors are arranged in a stripe shape on the transparent substrate, each organic EL light emitting region has a substantially linear shape (band shape). When each organic EL light emitting region emits light, each organic EL light emitting region becomes a substantially linear light source, and the light spreads in a strip shape as it is away from each organic EL light emitting region, and other organic light sources arranged in a stripe shape in the vicinity. It overlaps with the light emitted from the EL light emitting region. When the overlapping lights are different in color, light is emitted with a color in which different colors of light are mixed. Therefore, as described above, when two or more types of organic EL light emitting regions having different emission colors are arranged in a stripe shape on a transparent substrate, the organic EL light emitting region is located at a position somewhat away from the portion arranged in the stripe shape. Can be visually recognized as a state where light is emitted in a planar shape with a color in which two or more kinds of light emission colors are mixed. In order to obtain light emission with a substantially uniform color mixture, the distance between each stripe (each organic EL light emitting region) is in relation to the viewing distance (the distance to the display device illuminated when used as a backlight). The organic EL light emitting regions that are sufficiently narrow and emit light in different colors need to be dispersed from each other.
[0011]
And, in this way, in the organic EL light emitting region that emits light in each color, it is not necessary to use a plurality of light emitting materials, and it is sufficient to contain one kind of light emitting material (fluorescent dye). Compared with the case where a plurality of conventional light emitting materials are mixed, light emission of a color obtained by mixing the light emission colors of the organic EL light emitting regions of the respective colors can be made with low power consumption and high luminance. Therefore, if the emission color (for example, red, green, and blue, which are the three primary colors of light) and the luminance are determined so that the mixed color is white, white planar light emission with low power consumption and high luminance can be achieved. The backlight to be performed can be manufactured. Moreover, even if it is other than white, it is possible to obtain a planar light-emitting body that emits light in an arbitrary color obtained by mixing a plurality of colors and that has low power consumption and high luminance. In addition, by arranging the organic EL light emitting regions that emit light in each color in a stripe shape, other configurations for obtaining a color mixture from a plurality of organic EL light emitting regions (for example, two or more types of organic EL light emitting regions having different light emitting colors in a mosaic shape) Compared to a case where the organic EL light emitting regions are finely dispersed in a small planar shape), and the like can be manufactured easily.
[0012]
Further, by changing the power applied to each organic EL light emitting region or each organic EL light emitting region of each light emitting color, the luminance is changed for each light emitting color to adjust the mixed light emission color. In this case, it is necessary to adopt a configuration in which a voltage can be applied independently for each organic EL light emitting region or for each organic EL light emitting region of each light emitting color, but by arranging each organic EL light emitting region in a stripe shape, Compared to the case where the organic EL light emitting areas are arranged in a mosaic pattern or the organic EL light emitting areas are finely dispersed, the lead lines for supplying power to each organic EL light emitting area are minimized. It can be set as the structure which can apply a voltage independently for each organic EL light emission area very easily. Further, when the power applied to each organic EL light emitting region or each organic EL light emitting region is changed, light emission of various colors can be performed by one organic EL light emitting device, for example, organic EL light emitting If the types of regions are three types that emit light of red, green, and blue according to the three primary colors, almost full color light emission can be performed.
[0013]
More specifically, in the organic EL element, the organic EL element is formed as described above on a transparent substrate such as a glass substrate or a transparent film substrate (transparent resin substrate), and the back electrode has an opaque and metallic luster. , The light emitted from the organic EL layer is transmitted through the transparent electrode and the transparent substrate and emitted to the front surface of the transparent substrate (the surface opposite to the surface on which the organic EL element is provided). become. Therefore, the light from each color organic EL light emitting region formed in a stripe shape on the transparent substrate is basically mixed in the transparent substrate, and the light of the mixed emission color is planar on the front side of the transparent substrate. Will be emitted. In order to mix colors in the transparent substrate, the thickness of the transparent substrate, the interval between the organic EL light emitting regions (the width of each organic EL light emitting region, the interval between the organic EL light emitting regions), etc. are refracted by the transparent substrate. If the thickness of the transparent substrate is thin, it is necessary to narrow the interval between the organic EL light emitting regions. In order to reduce the thickness of the organic EL light emitting device, the stripe shape is required. It is preferable to make the organic EL light emitting region thinner.
[0014]
Each organic EL light emitting region is formed in a stripe shape on the transparent substrate as described above, and the organic EL light emitting layer as described above is formed in a strip shape between the cathode and the anode on the transparent substrate ( When the interval between the organic EL light emitting regions is narrow, the organic EL light emitting regions are formed so as to be substantially parallel to each other. At this time, if the voltage and current applied to each organic EL light emitting region are not changed, the cathode and the anode may be formed in a planar shape on one surface of the light emitting portion of the transparent substrate. it can. If at least one of the cathode and the anode is formed in a stripe-like state so as to overlap each organic EL light emitting region along each organic EL light emitting region, the voltage / current applied to each organic EL light emitting region It can be set as the structure which can change.
[0015]
Further, with such a configuration, even when the organic EL light emitting device is in use, the emission color can be changed by changing the luminance of each organic EL light emitting region. For example, the back color is changed for each color (RGB) field. It can also be used as a backlight for field sequential full color LCDs that require changing the color of the light. In this case, the organic EL element has an extremely small capacitance, can be switched at high speed, and can switch light emission of each color of RGB at high speed. Compared to a fluorescent tube that uses a fluorescent material, it is an extremely thin backlight that is optimal for a field sequential full color LCD.
[0016]
Further, the organic EL light emitting region is basically an organic EL element, but it is not necessary to have a cathode and an anode separately for each organic EL light emitting region as described above, and at least between the cathode and the anode. It is only necessary that the arranged organic EL light emitting layers are arranged in a stripe shape. Therefore, the organic EL light emitting region is composed of a striped organic EL light emitting layer and portions corresponding to the cathode and anode striped organic EL light emitting layers.
[0017]
In the organic EL light emitting region, each type of organic EL light emitting region that emits light in different colors contains a known light emitting material and has a light emitting color based on the light emitting material. The light emitting region preferably includes one kind of light emitting material for obtaining the light emission color of each organic EL light emitting region, and one organic EL light emitting region does not contain different kinds of light emitting materials in excess of the impurity concentration. Is preferred. That is, when a plurality of light emitting materials are mixed, the luminance is reduced and the power consumption is increased as in the conventional case. Therefore, in order to achieve low power consumption and high luminance, each type of organic EL It is necessary to include only one kind of different light emitting material for each light emitting region so that a plurality of light emitting materials are not mixed in one organic EL light emitting region as much as possible.
[0018]
In addition, when arranging each type of organic EL light emitting region in a stripe shape, it is preferable that the colors at each position of the light emitting surface of the organic EL light emitting device are mixed in substantially the same color. It is preferable that the distribution of the organic EL light emitting regions for each type of the light emitting regions is substantially the same. That is, it is preferable that the same type of organic EL light-emitting regions are arranged at substantially constant intervals, and a set of organic EL light-emitting regions each including one of each type of organic EL light-emitting region are arranged in stripes. It is preferable that
[0019]
In the present invention, since the partition portion for separating at least one of the organic EL light emitting layer, the anode and the cathode for each organic EL light emitting region is formed along the organic EL light emitting region, The partition wall can be used when forming the EL light emitting layer, the anode, and the cathode. For example, if a liquid material of the organic EL light emitting layer is injected between the partition walls, a striped light emitting layer can be easily formed. Also, after forming the partition wall, when the cathode thinner than the partition wall is formed in a planar shape on the transparent substrate on which the partition wall is formed, the cathode is disconnected at the partition wall due to a step due to the thickness of the partition wall. Even when the cathode is formed in a planar shape, the cathode can be an independent electrode for each organic EL light emitting region.
[0020]
Then, the organic EL light emitting layer and the cathode are patterned based on the pattern formation accuracy of the partition walls, and the interval (pitch) between the organic EL light emitting regions formed in a stripe shape can be narrowed. . As described above, in order to reduce the thickness of the organic EL light emitting device, it is necessary to narrow the pitch between the organic EL light emitting regions formed in a stripe shape. In other words, the organic EL light emitting device is formed in a stripe shape. By narrowing the pitch between the EL light emitting regions, the organic EL light emitting device can be further thinned.
[0021]
The partition wall is made of, for example, a well-known photosensitive resin and is preferably capable of pattern formation by photolithography..
[0022]
Moreover, it is preferable that a partition part is insulating.
[0023]
In addition, the thickness of the partition wall is preferably 5 μm or more when the liquid material of the organic EL light emitting layer is injected between the partition walls as described above or the cathode is disconnected.
[0024]
In addition, the partition walls are basically formed between the striped organic EL light emitting regions along the striped organic EL light emitting regions, respectively. Therefore, the partition walls are also basically formed in a stripe shape. It will be.
[0025]
Further, in order to reliably separate each organic EL light emitting region by the partition wall portion, the partition wall portion is preferably formed so as to surround the periphery of the organic EL light emitting region. For example, each organic EL light emitting region is formed in the planar partition wall portion. It is preferable that openings serving as EL light emitting regions are formed in a stripe shape.
[0026]
Even when the stripe-shaped opening is formed in the planar partition wall, the partition wall is striped only by looking at the portion corresponding to the organic EL light-emitting region. Each region is formed along the organic EL light emitting region.
[0027]
Further, in some cases, the partition wall is not in a state where a large number of openings are formed in a stripe shape in a planar partition wall, but in a state where one end side of each opening is opened, that is, in a comb-like state. good.
[0028]
The organic EL light-emitting device according to
[0029]
According to the above configuration, by injecting the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material between the partition walls formed in a stripe shape as described above, the organic EL light emitting layer can be easily formed in a stripe shape at a narrow pitch. Can be formed.
[0030]
Therefore, as described above, the organic EL light emitting device can be easily made thinner.
[0031]
The organic EL light-emitting device according to
[0032]
According to the above configuration, when the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material is injected between the adjacent partition walls, the distance between the partition walls is narrow. In this case, the above-mentioned material is injected, and the alignment of the needles at this time requires higher accuracy as the interval between the partition walls becomes thinner. By providing a widened portion in the organic EL light emitting region between the partition walls and aligning the position of the needle with the widened portion, even if there is an error in the alignment accuracy of the needle, the widened portion Can be absorbed in a wide width.
[0033]
In addition, if the interval between adjacent partition walls is narrow, there is a possibility that the liquid leaks from between the partition walls when the needle is displaced or the injection speed is too fast. As a result, the volume of the portion into which the liquid is injected is increased, and liquid leakage can be prevented.
[0034]
The organic EL light emitting device according to
[0035]
According to the said structure, since the said wide part is formed in the edge part of an organic electroluminescent light-emitting device, when inject | pouring the material of a liquid organic electroluminescent light emitting layer from the edge part between wide parts which are easy to produce a liquid leak In addition, liquid leakage can be prevented as described above.
[0036]
In addition, a widened portion is provided at one end of the organic EL light emitting region, and in the organic EL light emitting region arranged in a large number of stripes, the widened portion is alternately provided at one end and the other end. Or in a large number of stripe-shaped organic EL light-emitting areas, two organic EL light-emitting areas adjacent to each other are grouped, and the organic EL light-emitting areas are grouped together. The end portion where the widened portion is provided is reversed, and the end portion where the widened portion of the organic EL light emitting region is formed is longer than the end portion where the widened portion is not formed. If it protrudes along the direction, it can be as follows.
[0037]
That is, since the widened portion is provided at the end protruding from the adjacent organic EL light emitting region, the widened portion can be widened to the adjacent organic EL light emitting region side, and the width of the widened portion is arranged in a stripe shape. In addition, the pitch of the organic EL light emitting region can be increased.
[0038]
The organic EL light-emitting device according to claim 5 of the present invention is the organic EL light-emitting device according to any one of
[0039]
According to the above configuration, when the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material is injected between the adjacent partition walls, the liquid is difficult to flow in the narrow width portion. By controlling the amount and the like, it is possible to prevent the liquid from flowing beyond the narrow portion.
[0040]
Therefore, for example, the partition walls are formed so as to block between the partition walls at both ends of the organic EL light emission region between the partition walls, and the partition wall completely surrounds the organic EL light emission region. Even if it is not formed, the flow of the liquid can be stopped at the narrow width portion, and the narrow width portion can be used as the end portion of the organic EL light emitting layer.
[0041]
When the cathode is formed on the transparent substrate from above the partition when the organic EL emission region is completely surrounded by the partition, the cathode is disconnected around the organic EL emission region due to the step of the partition. If the entire periphery of the organic EL light emitting region is not surrounded by the partition wall portion and at least one end portion is a narrow width portion, the cathode is not disconnected at that portion. For example, each organic EL The cathodes of the light emitting regions can be short-circuited.
[0042]
The organic EL light-emitting device according to
[0043]
According to the above configuration, when the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material is injected between the adjacent partition walls, the liquid is repelled in the coating control layer, and the liquid does not flow easily. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the liquid from flowing to the tip of the paint control layer by controlling the amount of liquid at the time of injection.
[0044]
Therefore, for example, the partition walls are formed so as to block between the partition walls at both ends of the organic EL light emission region between the partition walls, and the partition wall completely surrounds the organic EL light emission region. Even if it is not formed, the flow of the liquid can be stopped by the paint control layer, and the part of the paint control layer can be the end of the organic EL light emitting layer.
[0045]
Thus, the same effect as that attained by the 5th aspect can be attained.
[0046]

In addition, the organic EL light emitting device of the first example has a value that can be highly efficient compared to a backlight using a fluorescent tube and a light guide plate, and sufficiently uses the fluorescent tube and the light guide plate. The material of the paint control layer 14 is basically composed of a substance that lowers the surface energy. And as a substance which makes surface energy low, the substance which has a long-chain alkyl group, a fluorine group, and a silicon group can be mentioned, for example. Specifically, the material of the paint control layer 14 includes a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing a monomer mixture containing tetrafluoroethylene and at least one comonomer, and a fluorine-containing copolymer having a cyclic structure in the copolymer main chain. 【The invention's effect】
According to the organic EL light-emitting device of the first aspect of the present invention, a plurality of light-emitting materials that emit light of different colors are mixed or stacked, thereby increasing the non-light-emitting transition and reducing the luminance. It is possible to emit light of a desired color with high luminance by mixing colors emitted from the stripe-shaped organic EL light emitting region. Therefore, when this organic EL light-emitting device is used as a backlight of an LCD, for example, it can be made extremely thin and highly efficient than a conventional backlight combining a fluorescent tube and a light guide plate. Therefore, the LCD can be made thinner. Further, by arranging the organic EL light emitting regions in a stripe shape, the cathode, the anode and the organic EL light emitting layer can be formed very easily as compared with the case where the organic EL light emitting regions are dispersed in a mosaic or other state. Therefore, the organic EL light emitting device can be easily manufactured.
[0119]
In the present invention, a striped light emitting layer can be easily formed by injecting a liquid material of the organic EL light emitting layer between the partition walls. Moreover, if the stripe-shaped organic EL light emitting layer is formed using the partition wall, the organic EL light emitting layer can be easily arranged at a narrow pitch..
[0120]
Then, by narrowing the pitch of the organic EL light-emitting layer, that is, the organic EL light-emitting region, each light-emitting color of each organic EL light-emitting region can be mixed in the transparent substrate even if the thickness of the transparent substrate is thin. In addition, the organic EL light emitting device can be further reduced in thickness.
[0121]
According to the organic EL light emitting device of the second aspect of the present invention, it is easily narrowed by injecting the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material between the partition walls formed in a stripe shape as described above. An organic EL light emitting layer can be formed in a stripe shape at a pitch.
[0122]
Therefore, as described above, the organic EL light emitting device can be easily made thinner.
[0123]
According to the organic EL light emitting device of the third aspect of the present invention, the needle for injecting the liquid material of the organic EL light emitting layer can be easily aligned.
[0124]
In addition, if the interval between adjacent partition walls is narrow, there is a possibility that the liquid leaks from between the partition walls when the needle is displaced or the injection speed is too fast. As a result, the volume of the portion into which the liquid is injected is increased, and liquid leakage can be prevented.
[0125]
According to the organic EL light emitting device of
[0126]
According to the organic EL light emitting device of claim 5 of the present invention, when the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material is injected between the adjacent partition walls, the liquid does not flow in the narrow portion. Since it is in a lazy state, it is possible to prevent liquid from flowing beyond the narrow portion by controlling the amount of liquid at the time of injection.
[0127]
Therefore, for example, the partition walls are formed so as to block between the partition walls at both ends of the organic EL light emission region between the partition walls, and the partition wall completely surrounds the organic EL light emission region. Even if it is not formed, the flow of the liquid can be stopped at the narrow width portion, and the narrow width portion can be used as the end portion of the organic EL light emitting layer.
[0128]
When the cathode is formed on the transparent substrate from above the partition when the organic EL emission region is completely surrounded by the partition, the cathode is disconnected around the organic EL emission region due to the step of the partition. If the entire periphery of the organic EL light emitting region is not surrounded by the partition wall portion and at least one end portion is a narrow width portion, the cathode is not disconnected at that portion. For example, each organic EL The cathodes of the light emitting regions can be short-circuited.
[0129]
According to the organic EL light emitting device of the sixth aspect of the present invention, when the liquid organic EL light emitting layer material is injected between the adjacent partition walls, the liquid is repelled in the portion of the paint control layer. Thus, since the liquid is difficult to flow, it is possible to prevent the liquid from flowing ahead of the paint control layer by controlling the amount of liquid at the time of injection.
[0130]
Therefore, the same effect as that of the structure of the fifth aspect can be obtained.
