Description
The present invention relates to a battery pack, and more particularly to a battery pack having high space efficiency when mounted on a device.
With the widespread use of portable electronic devices such as notebook personal computers, battery packs as power sources are increasingly used. In general, a battery pack includes a plurality of unit cells housed in a case such as a resin. The battery pack also includes a charge / discharge control circuit unit that performs functions such as control during charge / discharge and protection of the unit cells.
As the unit cell stored in the battery pack, various types of batteries can be used depending on the usage pattern of the target device. For example, in the case of a battery pack attached to a notebook computer or the like, a plurality of high-capacity lithium ion batteries are stored.
However, in the battery pack (assembled battery) of
In order to save space, a method of reducing the number of unit cells stored in the case and the size of each unit cell can be considered, but further increase in capacity of the pack battery is required. At present, it is difficult to actually adopt a method that causes a decrease in battery capacity, such as reducing the number of unit cells stored or the size of individual cells.
The present invention has been made to solve such problems, and can be designed in a shape more suitable for the shape of the mounting location of the mounting target device without causing a reduction in battery capacity. An object of the present invention is to provide a battery pack having a high degree of freedom and a high space efficiency.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a battery pack that is housed in a case in a state in which a plurality of unit cells are combined, and the plurality of unit cells have a first appearance. And the first appearance is formed by a combination of a second unit cell having a second appearance having a size and shape corresponding to the battery capacity and at least a size corresponding to the battery capacity, The second unit cells are configured to be connected in parallel with each other , and are arranged in accordance with the shape of the mounting location in the device to which the pack battery is mounted (Claim 1).
In the above battery pack, the number of the first unit cells and the number of the second unit cells need only be one or more, respectively, and the outer appearance of both the first unit cell and the second unit cell. Different types of unit cells may be housed.
Further, the present invention provides the battery pack according to
Further, according to the present invention, in the battery pack according to
In the battery pack according to
Further, according to the present invention, in the battery pack according to the fourth aspect, an external connection terminal is formed on the outer wall surface of the case for electrical connection with a mounting target device. The unit cell is connected to the external connection terminal in a state where the charge / discharge control unit is interposed in the power distribution path (Claim 5).
Above the packed battery according to
Further, in the above battery pack, the space in the case is used with high efficiency, and the size or the number of stored cells can be increased as much as possible. Therefore, the battery capacity is hardly reduced.
Therefore, the battery pack according to the present invention can be designed in a shape more suitable for the shape of the mounting location of the mounting target device without causing a reduction in battery capacity, and has a high degree of freedom in the design stage and space. It has the advantage of high efficiency.
Note that the state in which the plurality of unit cells in
In particular, it is desirable to configure a battery pack with the following two types of combinations because space efficiency can be improved.
(1) One of the first unit cell and the second unit cell has a cylindrical external shape, and the other has a square external shape.
(2) Both the first unit cell and the second unit cell have the same external shape of a cylindrical shape or a square shape, and have different sizes.
If a plurality of unit cells are configured with such a combination, it is desirable because the degree of freedom of design is increased in forming the battery pack in accordance with the shape of the mounting location in the mounting target device. It is also effective to eliminate a useless space in the case of the battery pack or the device to be mounted.
In the battery pack of the present invention, if the first unit cell and the second unit cell are of the same chemical system and are of a form that can be charged in the same manner, A power flow path including external terminals for connection can be shared, which is effective in improving space efficiency.
Hereinafter, as the best mode for carrying out the invention, a
(Outline configuration)
A
As shown in FIG. 1, the
The
The
(Configuration of battery pack 1)
Next, the configuration of the
As shown in FIG. 2, three types of two types of batteries having different external shapes are housed in the
The second type of unit cell is a lithium ion battery (hereinafter simply referred to as “square battery”) 14a to 14c having a square external shape. Each of the
The
Inside the
Thus, in the
(Circuit configuration of the battery pack 1)
Next, the circuit configuration of the
As shown in FIG. 3, the

The charge /
The configuration of the charge /
(Advantages of battery pack 1)
If a battery pack is configured by combining only unit cells of the same form as in the prior art, a dead space will be generated in the mounting
Moreover, even if unit cells having different forms are combined, a necessary voltage can be obtained by adopting the connection configuration as described above, and the energy stored in each unit cell is stored in the
Therefore, in the
In addition, the
(Modification 1)
A battery pack 2 according to
The battery pack 2 according to this modification is not shown, but its external shape is the same as that of the
As shown in FIG. 4, the battery pack 2 is roughly divided into two
On the other hand, the
As is clear from FIG. 4, the battery pack 2 includes two types of batteries having different characteristics, and supplies power to the
The battery pack 2 having the above-described configuration includes chemical unit cells (Ni-

As shown in the drawing part of FIG. 5A, the specific external shape of the
Next, as shown in FIG. 5 (b), the

Therefore, the
(Other matters)
The above embodiments and modifications are shown as examples for explaining the features and advantages of the present invention, and it goes without saying that the present invention is not limited thereto. That is, in the battery pack according to the present invention, the dead space at the time of mounting or the dead space of the battery pack itself is reduced as much as possible by matching the shape of the space where the battery pack is to be mounted in the device to be mounted. The constituent elements can be rearranged as long as the electric power having the characteristics required by the device to be mounted can be supplied and the battery capacity does not decrease.
For example, in the above-described embodiment and
In addition, as shown in the first modification, the unit cells incorporated in the pack are not necessarily the same chemical system. For example, two or more types of batteries from a plurality of types of chemical batteries such as a Ni—Cd battery, a Ni—MH battery, and a lithium ion battery may be combined and incorporated in the pack. In addition, as a unit cell, a primary battery can also be used according to a use.
Furthermore, the battery battery according to the present invention may be mounted on a device such as an electric assist bicycle, an electric motorcycle, an electric vehicle, and an electric tool in addition to the portable electronic device as in the above-described embodiment and modification. For these devices, if the combination of the unit cells is set so as to have a shape most suitable for the space at the mounting location, it is possible to achieve high battery capacity and improve space efficiency.
Moreover, in the said embodiment, although the pack battery of the form with which the unit cell was incorporated in the case made from resin was used, it is not necessary to necessarily provide the case made from resin. For example, the present invention can be applied to a so-called assembled battery in which a plurality of unit cells are fixed with a heat-sealing resin film or the like.
As for battery charging methods, for alkaline systems (Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, etc.) having resistance during charging, in addition to the above-described constant current charging methods, quasi-constant current methods, trickle methods, floats, etc. A method, a stepped method, etc. can be adopted. The battery voltage detection method, the -ΔV detection method, the peak cut method, the temperature control method, the timer method, and the like can also be adopted as the control method for performing the quick charge. On the other hand, for a non-aqueous battery represented by a lithium ion battery, it is optimal to adopt a constant current / constant voltage system in consideration of its durability.
The battery pack according to the present invention is effective in increasing space efficiency without causing a decrease in battery capacity, and is premised on being mounted on devices such as portable electronic devices such as laptop computers that are becoming thinner and smaller. It has an advantage as a power source.
