本発明は、主として移動される機器での信号伝達用に利用される光ファイバケーブルに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
図3に従来の光ファイバーケーブル11の断面図が示されている。この光ファイバケーブル11は、撚り合わされた複数本の光ファイバコード12の中心に、鋼撚線ワイヤロープなどからなるテンションメンバ13を配備し、これらをポリウレタンなどの防食用の樹脂被覆層14で覆った構造となっている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上記構造の光ファイバーケーブル11は、中心に剛性の高いテンションメンバ13を配備しているために強度的には優れているのであるが、耐屈曲性、耐捻回性においてやや難点があり、大きい側圧、屈曲、捻回などを受けた場合に、テンションメンバ13に直接接触する光ファイバコード12に物理的な変形(塑性変形)が発生して、信号伝達損失を精度高く抑えることが困難になることがあった。

本発明は、このような点に着目してなされたものであって、所期の強度および信号伝達性能を確保できるものでありながら耐側圧性、耐屈曲性、耐捻回性に優れた光ファイバケーブルを提供することを目的とする。

本発明では、上記目的を達成するために、次のように構成している。

すなわち、請求項1に係る発明の光ファイバケーブルは、単一の光ファイバ心線をビニルシースで被覆してなる光ファイバコードを複数備え、これら複数の光ファイバコードを内部樹脂被覆層で覆うとともに、この樹脂被覆層を高張力繊維層で覆い、その外側を外部樹脂被覆層で覆ってなり、
かつ前記複数の光ファイバコードを撚り合わせるとともに、これら複数の光ファイバコードの中心に高張力繊維層を配備してある、
ことを特徴とする。

請求項2に係る発明の光ファイバケーブルは、請求項1記載の発明において、前記外部樹脂被覆層は、ポリウレタンからなるものである。

請求項1に係る発明の構成によると、張力に対する強度をもたらす高張力繊維層は、鋼撚線ワイヤロープなどからなるテンションメンバに比較して柔軟であり、大きい屈曲や捻回に対して無理なく対応する。また、高張力繊維層は、内部樹脂被覆層を介して複数の光ファイバコードを弾性的に覆うので、光ファイバコードに物理的な変形が発生しにくいものとなる。また、高張力繊維層自体は外部樹脂被覆層で覆われて保護される。

この光ファイバーケーブル1は、光ファイバ線として複数本(この例では4本)の光ファイバコード2が撚り合わされ、これら光ファイバコード2が柔軟性PVCシースなどからなる内部樹脂被覆層3で覆われるとともに、この内部樹脂被覆層2がケプラー繊維やアラミド繊維などからなる高張力繊維層4によって覆われ、さらにその外側がポリウレタンなどの耐摩耗性に優れた樹脂材からなる外部樹脂被覆層5で覆われている。また、光ファイバコード2群の中心にも、高張力繊維層6が配備されている。
