【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、ビデオカメラやスチルカメラなどの光学機器に好適な、受光量を制御する光量調整装置に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
複数のレンズを組み合わせたレンズ鏡筒を用い、撮像素子やフィルム面に光線を結像させ、動画もしくは静止画を記録するビデオカメラやスチルカメラにおいては、レンズ鏡筒の光学系の途中に、撮像素子の受光量を制御する光量調整装置を組み込むのが普通である。特に動画を撮影したり、液晶ディスプレイ等に表示するビデオカメラやデジタル・スチルカメラにおいては、被写体の照度が変化するのに追従して、受光量が一定になるよう光量を連続的に制御する光量調整装置が必要である。

近年になって、撮像素子の画素ピッチが縮小するようになると、絞りを小さくするときの解像度劣化が少なく、かつ受光量を連続して制御する光量調整装置が、開発されている。その一例として特開平11−64921号公報において、光量調整装置の1つであるレンズの絞り調整装置が開示されている。このような光量調整装置の一例を図12に示す。

この図12において、撮像光学系レンズ121、122、123、124の光軸100上には、NDフィルタ駆動部103により光路に出し入れされるNDフィルタ(減光フィルタ)104と、絞り駆動部105により制御される絞り羽根106、107とが配置されている。なお、NDフィルタ104と絞り羽根106、107とは互いに独立して制御される。

これら撮像光学系を通過した被写体像は撮像素子109上で結像される。撮像素子109からの信号は映像信号処理回路108において標準テレビジョン信号に変換され、図示しない外部の記録部やテレビジョンモニタ等に出力される。

光量制御部110には、映像信号処理回路108から被写体の輝度信号が入力される。光量制御部110は撮像素子109に入射する光量が一定になるよう、NDフィルタ駆動部103と、絞り駆動部105に制御信号を出力する。

次に、図13を用いて従来の光量調整装置の動作を説明する。図13においては、光軸100は紙面に直角な方向となる。被写体の照度が低いとき、図13(a)に示すように、NDフィルタ104は光路から待避し、絞り羽根106、107は光路を遮らないように全開状態となる。

被写体の照度が高くなりはじめると、初めに絞り羽根106、107が駆動され、光路の断面積が減少する。図13(b)の位置に絞り羽根106、107が到達したあと、NDフィルタ104が図13(c)、(d)のように光路内に挿入され、やがて図13(e)のように光路を完全に覆う。この間、絞り羽根106、107は停止している。図13(d)のような状態では、小絞り領域115が形成され、回折現象により解像度が劣化するが、光路の全断面積に占める小絞り領域115の比率が低いので、解像度の劣化が抑えられる。

さらに被写体照度が高くなると、絞り羽根106、107が駆動されて、図13(f)のように光路の断面積がさらに小さくなる。
以上のようにして、回折による解像度の劣化を低減しつつ、被写体照度の増減に対して撮像素子109に入射する光量を一定に保つことができるのである。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、このような光量調整装置においては、図13(d)の状態から図13(e)の状態に至る間の光量の変化が少なく、かつ解像度が急激に回復するため、NDフィルタ104や絞り羽根106、107の動作が不安定になったり、オートフォーカスが誤動作しやすいという課題があった。

図14は、NDフィルタ104の位置と透過率を考慮した光量Fナンバと、レンズの結像性能の指標であるMTF(Modulation Transfer Function)の関係を示す曲線111を示したものである。ここで、光量Fナンバは被写体の照度に相当する。図14は、図13の(a)〜(f)に相当する状態も記載している。図13(d)の状態では小絞り領域115が形成され、回折現象により解像度が劣化する。このためMTF値も(b)および(c)の状態に比べると低下している。一方、(e)の状態になると、NDフィルタ104が光路を完全に覆う。従って、MTF値は(b)の状態と同一となる。しかしながら、(d)から(e)の状態に変化する過程では、小絞り領域115の部分の透過率が変わるだけであるから、NDフィルタ104の移動量に対する光量Fナンバの変化量はわずかである。このため、微妙な被写体の照度の変化に対して、NDフィルタ104を大きく動かさなくてはならない。図14では曲線111が112に示すように急峻に立ち上がっている。すなわち、被写体照度の変化に対する敏感度が極めて高くなる。このように敏感度が高くなると、NDフィルタ104の動作が不安定になりハンチング現象を生じるという問題があった。

また、(e)の状態から被写体照度が高くなった場合には、光量調整装置は、絞り羽根106、107を駆動して光量を調整しなくてはならない。このため、NDフィルタ104の動作が不安定になると、絞り羽根106、107の動作も不安定になり、やはりハンチング現象を生じるという問題があった。

さらに、曲線111が112に示すように急峻に立ち上がっているために、オートフォーカス動作も不安定になる。映像信号処理回路108では、撮像素子109の出力からコントラストを検出して、フォーカス調整用レンズ124を光軸100に沿って移動させる。これによって、被写体までの距離が変わっても、撮像素子109上で正しく結像することができるのである。ところが図14に示すように、MTF値が112に示すように急峻に変化すると、実際には被写体までの距離が変化していなくても、コントラストが急激に変化することになる。映像信号処理回路108は、被写体までの距離が変わったときとコントラストが急激に変化するときとの区別ができないので、オートフォーカスが誤動作したり、動作が不安定になるという問題があった。

本発明は、光量調整を行う際に、回折による解像度の劣化を低減しつつ、NDフィルタや絞り羽根が安定して動作し、オートフォーカス動作に支障を与えることがない光量調整装置を提供することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
この課題を解決するために、本発明の光量調整装置は、撮像手段と、前記撮像手段へ入射する光路を遮る絞り羽根と、前記絞り羽根が形成する開口部の断面積を変えるために、前記絞り羽根を駆動する第1の駆動手段と、光路を通過する光の透過率を変える減光フィルタと、前記減光フィルタを光路に出し入れする第2の駆動手段とを有し、被写体照度が第1の照度範囲にある場合、被写体照度の変化に応じて、前記第2の駆動手段は、前記減光フィルタが前記開口部の一部を除いて前記開口部を覆う位置までの範囲において、前記減光フィルタを光路に出し入れし被写体照度が前記第1の照度範囲より高い第2の照度範囲にある場合、被写体照度の変化に応じて、前記第1の駆動手段は、前記絞り羽根を駆動することを特徴とするものである。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態について、図1から図11を用いて説明する。なお、先に従来例で示した構成部材に対しては、同一の符号を付して説明する。
(実施の形態1)
図1は、実施の形態1における光量調整装置の構成を示すブロック図である。図2は、実施の形態1における光量調整装置の主要構成部の斜視図である。図3は、実施の形態1における光量調整装置の一部正面図である。そして図4は、実施の形態1における光量調整装置の光量Fナンバに対するMTF値の変化を表すグラフである。

図1において、撮像光学系レンズは、前部レンズ群121、ズームレンズ群122、補正用レンズ群123、フォーカスレンズ124で構成される。ズームレンズ群122が光軸100に沿って前後に移動することによって、変倍動作が行われ、フォーカスレンズ124が前後に移動することによって、焦点調整動作が行われる。

図2において、基台1に取り付けた絞り駆動部を構成するメータ2には、ロータ3が圧入固定され、ロータ3の両側先端には、絞り羽根106、107が取り付けられている。

メータ2に外部から電力が供給されると、ロータ3が回転し、基台1に設けたガイドピンに沿って、絞り羽根106が下方向に、絞り羽根107が上方向に移動する。また、ロータ3が先程とは逆方向に回転することによって、基台1に設けたガイドピンに沿って、絞り羽根106が上方向に、絞り羽根107が下方向にも移動する。この結果、メータ2に供給する電力を調整することによって、光軸100を中心とする光路の断面積が変化するので、撮像素子109に入射する光量を調整することができる。なお、メータ2の内部には、図示しないホール素子が取りつけられている。このホール素子が、メータ2のマグネットの回転による磁力の変化を検出することによって、絞り羽根106、107の位置を検出することができ、第1の検出手段である絞り検出部132を構成する。

一方、NDフィルタ104は、ND駆動羽根6に接着固定される。レンズ鏡筒に固定したメータ4には、アーム5を圧入固定し、アーム5の先端にND駆動羽根6を取り付けることによって、アーム5の回転に応じてND駆動羽根6とNDフィルタ104が上下に移動する。

メータ4に外部から電力が供給されると、アーム5が回転し、図示しないガイドピンに沿って、ND駆動羽根6が上方向に移動する。また、アーム5が先程とは逆方向に回転することによって、図示しないガイドピンに沿って、ND駆動羽根6が下方向に移動する。この結果、メータ4に供給する電力を調整することによって、NDフィルタ104を、待避位置から光路の中へ徐々に挿入することも、光路の中から待避位置へ引き抜くこともできる。NDフィルタ104は、例えば10%〜30%程度の透過率を有するので、撮像素子109に入射する光量を連続して調整することができる。なお、メータ4の内部には、図示しないホール素子が取りつけられている。このホール素子は、メータ4のマグネットの回転による磁力の変化を検出することによってNDフィルタ104の位置を検出することができ、第2の検出手段であるNDフィルタ検出部131を構成する。

以上のように構成した光量調整装置について、図3を用いて動作を説明する。図3においては、光軸100は紙面に直角な方向となる。ここでは、説明を簡単にするために、被写体の照度が少しずつ上昇する場合のみの光量調整装置の動作について説明する。

まず、被写体の照度が低いとき、図3(a)に示すように、NDフィルタ104は光路から待避し、絞り羽根106、107は光路を遮らないように全開状態となる。被写体の照度が高くなりはじめると、初めに絞り駆動部105は絞り羽根106、107を駆動し、光路の断面積が減少する。図3(b)の位置に絞り羽根106、107が到達すると、絞り駆動部105は絞り羽根106、107を駆動することを止める。この絞り羽根106、107の停止位置については、後に説明する。

さらに、被写体照度が高くなると、NDフィルタ駆動部103によりNDフィルタ104が図3(c)のように光路内に挿入される。そして、NDフィルタ104が光路の一部を除いて光路を覆う位置、すなわち図3(d)の位置で、NDフィルタ104は停止する。この間、絞り羽根106、107は停止している。このNDフィルタ104の停止位置についても後に説明する。図3(d)のような状態では、NDフィルタと絞り羽根106の間に小絞り領域115が形成され、回折現象により解像度がわずかに劣化するが、光路の全断面積に占める小絞り領域115の比率が低いので、解像度の劣化を抑えることができる。

さらに被写体照度が高くなると、絞り駆動部105は絞り羽根106、107を駆動して、図3(e)、(f)のように光路の断面積をさらに小さくする。

本発明の光量調整装置について、図14と同じように、光量FナンバとMTF値の関係を示す曲線11を求めると、図4のようになる。ここで、光量FナンバとMTF値の関係は、実験または数値計算により求めることができる。例えば、所定のピッチで白黒のパターンが書き込まれた試験チャートを、照度を変えながら撮影すれば良い。あるいは、回折を考慮して点物体の像の広がりを求め、絞り羽根106、107とNDフィルタ104が形成する開口部の形状に対して、MTF値を数値計算しても良い。

図4は、図3の(a)〜(f)に相当する状態も記載している。図3(d)の状態では小絞り領域115が形成され、回折現象により解像度が劣化する。このためMTF値も(b)および(c)の状態に比べると低下している。しかしながら、光路の全断面積に占める小絞り領域115の比率が低いので、解像度の劣化を抑えることができ、許容限度以上のMTF値を保つことができる。

さらに被写体照度が高くなると、NDフィルタを停止したまま、絞り羽根106、107を駆動して、図3(e)のように光路の断面積を小さくする。(e)の状態では、停止しているNDフィルタ104が光路の全面を覆うので、小絞り領域115はなくなる。しかも(e)の状態は(b)の状態より絞り込んでいるので、MTF値は(b)よりも改善できる。さらに絞り羽根を絞り込むと、絞り羽根が形成する開口部自体が(f)のように小さくなるので、回折現象のためにMTF値は減少するようになる。

以上のようにして、回折による解像度の劣化を低減しつつ、被写体照度の増減に対して撮像素子109に入射する光量を一定に保つことができる。

ここで、曲線11の(d)から(e)までの変化12に注目すると、比較的なだらかにMTF値が増加していることがわかる。(d)の状態においてNDフィルタ104は停止しているので、(d)から(e)への光量Fナンバの変化は、絞り羽根106、107を移動して、光路の断面積を減少させることによる。したがって、光量Fナンバに対する絞り羽根106、107の移動量の敏感度は、(a)から(b)の区間、あるいは(e)から(f)の区間と同じである。

以上のように、本発明に係る光量調整装置は、被写体照度の上昇に応じて、光路の一部を除いて光路を覆う位置にNDフィルタ104を停止させ、さらに被写体照度が高くなった場合には、NDフィルタ104を停止させたまま、絞り羽根106、107を駆動して、撮像素子109に入射する光量を一定に保っているので、被写体照度のわずかな変化に対して、NDフィルタ104や絞り羽根106、107が敏感に反応することがない。また、MTF値の変化12が比較的なだらかであるため、オートフォーカス動作が支障なく実施できる。

次に、絞り羽根106、107の停止位置について説明する。
NDフィルタ104が無い状態で、絞り羽根106、107だけを図4(a)の状態から図4(f)の状態まで絞った場合、光量Fナンバに対するMTF値の変化は、概ね次のようになる。絞り駆動部105は絞り羽根106、107を駆動して断面積を小さくすると、MTF値は(a)から(b)へと上昇する。さらに絞り込むと、(e)の状態のようにMTF値はピークをとり、その後は(f)のように低下する。このような特性を考慮すると、絞り羽根106、107の停止位置は、MTF値がピークとなる(e)の位置の近傍が望ましい。図3、図4に示した実施の形態では、(e)の位置よりも少し開放側に戻った位置(b)で絞り羽根106、107は停止している。このため、(d)の状態で小絞り領域115が形成されても、回折現象により解像度劣化を少なくすることができる。

この望ましい位置で絞り羽根106、107を停止させるには、予めNDフィルタ104の無い状態での光量Fナンバに対するMTF値の変化を実験または数値計算により求めておき、MTF値がピークとなる位置の近傍での絞り検出部132の出力、具体的にはメータ2に内蔵したホール素子の出力電圧を、第1のリファレンス値として光量制御部110に記憶させる。そして光量制御部110は、絞り検出部132の出力と記憶している第1のリファレンス値を比較して、両者が一致したときに、絞り羽根106、107を停止させれば良い。
