この種の照明器具は、白熱ランプに比べてはるかに省電力の蛍光ランプを使用することにより店舗などにおける照明消費電力を大幅に削減している。しかし、白熱ランプを誤って装着すると、発熱が大きいために器具の樹脂部などが熱変形したり、焦げたりするおそれがある。これを回避するために、ソケットの前方に対向して設けた反射筒の内部に内径が蛍光ランプの最大外径より大きく、白熱ランプの最大外径より小さい金属筒状体をビス止めして、白熱ランプがソケットに装着できないようにしていた。
