AC成分:周波数1800Hz、VPP(peak to peak)1400V
L0=π×30×{1+180/360}=141.3mm

t1=100/150=0.67sec
t0=π×30×(1+180/360)/300=0.47sec
(A)+(B)+(C)=約2.7sec
画像形成前一周分94.2/300=0.314sec(A´)
t0=0.47sec
t1=0.67sec

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is an electrophotographic method. The expressionMore particularly, the present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, and a FAX.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Applying an image forming process including a process of charging the image carrier to an electrophotographic photosensitive member such as a rotating drum type or an endless belt type, or an electrostatic recording dielectric, to obtain target image information A corresponding electrostatic latent image is formed, the electrostatic latent image is visualized (toner imaged) with a developer, the toner image is transferred to a recording material, and further image-fixed to form an image formed product (copy, Image forming apparatuses such as electrophotographic apparatuses (copying machines, optical printers, etc.), electrostatic recording apparatuses, and the like, which are output as prints and the image carrier is repeatedly used for image formation, are known.
[0003]
In such an image forming apparatus, a corona discharge device has been widely used as a means for charging an image carrier (hereinafter referred to as a photoreceptor). In this method, a corona discharge device is disposed in contact with the photoconductor in a non-contact manner, and the photoconductor surface is corona charged by exposing the photoconductor surface to a corona shower generated from a corona discharge device to which a high voltage is applied.
[0004]
In recent years, contact-type charging devices have attracted attention and have been put into practical use because they have advantages such as lower power supply voltage and less ozone generation than corona discharge devices.
[0005]
The contact-type charging device brings a charged member such as an image carrier into contact with a conductive charging member (contact charging means) such as a roller type (charging roller), a blade type, a fur brush type, or a magnetic brush type. A predetermined bias voltage is applied to the charging member to charge the member to be charged to a predetermined polarity / potential.
[0006]
There are a method in which only a DC voltage is applied to the charging member (DC application method) and a method in which a DC voltage is superimposed on an AC voltage (AC application method). In particular, the latter AC application method is a method that is frequently used in recent years because the AC component makes the unevenness of the charge uniform and converges to a predetermined voltage by the DC component, so that it is easy to obtain the uniformity of the surface potential.
[0007]
There are two types of contact charging mechanisms, a corona charging system and a direct charging system (charge injection charging system), and each characteristic appears depending on which is dominant.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in an image forming apparatus using a contact-type charging device, it is necessary to start charging the photosensitive member in advance before image formation. Specifically, unless charging is started in advance for one rotation or more of the rotating photoreceptor, the charged potential is not stable, and it is difficult to obtain a good image with uniform image density. For this reason, when the recording material synchronization means is close to the image forming portion, it is necessary to start charging with a sensor in front of it or a reference signal. At this time, for example, when it takes time for the image processing or when waiting for the start-up of another apparatus of the image forming apparatus, for example, the fixing apparatus, it is usual to wait the recording material at the position of the synchronization means. If the recording material is not kept waiting at this synchronization position, preparation for image formation is completed, and extra time is required until the image formation is completed, which causes discomfort to the user. That is, if the recording material feeding is started after all the preparations of the image forming apparatus are completed, it takes extra time from the start to the end of the image formation.
[0009]
In particular, in an image forming apparatus equipped with a memory device for recording image data, for example, when acquiring a plurality of image outputs from one original, reading a double-sided original, or forming / depositing a double-sided image, It may take time to process the image data. If image formation as described above is performed at this time, extra time is generated and the load on the user is increased.
[0010]
On the other hand, if the recording material is put on standby at the position of the synchronization means at this time, the storage / development of the memory is completed, and an additional charging bias is applied to the photoconductor until the preparation of the image data for the first image formation is completed. As a result, extra power is consumed.
[0011]
Here, in the image forming apparatus using the contact-type charging device, it is considered by the present inventors that there is a proportional correlation between the application time of the charging bias (particularly the AC component) and the abrasion amount of the surface layer of the photoreceptor. I know. For this reason, if the photosensitive member is charged for a surplus time, surface abrasion is promoted, and the life of the photosensitive member is shortened.
[0012]
That is, if there is an extra time for image data processing or the start-up of the image forming apparatus or an extra waiting time for the recording material at the synchronization position, the power for charging is wasted and the life of the photoconductor is shortened. There was a problem.
[0013]
An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing power consumption for charging an image carrier as much as possible.
[0014]
Another object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of extending the life of an image carrier.
[0015]
Further objects of the present invention will become apparent upon reading the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings.

(2) Control of charging bias
As described above, in the contact charging type image forming apparatus, in consideration of the uniformity of the charged potential on the surface of the photosensitive member, the photosensitive member surface is more than one rotation of the photosensitive member before image formation (before forming an electrostatic latent image by image exposure). It is preferable to perform charging. Further, after the image formation is completed, it is not essential for transferring and reducing the exposure memory, but it is also desirable to charge more than the circumference of the photoreceptor.
[0050]
For this reason, in the configuration of this embodiment, the diameter d of the
(A) Before image formation: 30 × 3.14 / 150 = 0.63 sec.
(B) During image formation: 210/150 = 1.4 sec.
(C) After image formation: 30 × 3.14 / 150 = 0.63 sec
(A) + (B) + (C) = 2.66 sec is the minimum photosensitive member charging time required to form an image on one A4 horizontal recording material.
[0051]
In addition, a configuration and a sequence capable of forming 30 images on the side of A4 per minute are taken, and the distance between the recording materials when the images are continuously formed on a plurality of recording materials, that is, the sheet interval is 90 mm (0 .6 sec).
[0052]
Therefore, image formation was performed with the configuration of the image forming apparatus of this embodiment shown in FIG. In this configuration, the

Further, the angle θ formed in the photosensitive member rotation direction between the charging nip portion n and the transfer nip portion 7c is 180 ° (FIG. 1).
[0055]
In other words, in this configuration, when the distance of the circumference of the photosensitive member 1.5 is L0,
L0 = π × 30 × {1 + 180/360} = 141.3 mm

[0059]
Here, as shown in FIG. 3, the application time of charging bias per A4 sheet (hereinafter referred to as charging time) and the amount of abrasion (per 10,000 sheets) of the photoreceptor surface layer 1a (photosensitive layer in this embodiment) are as follows. The inventors have found that the relationship is proportional.
[0060]
Further, in the
[0061]
In addition to the 1to1 image forming mode, the image forming apparatus can select a 1toN image forming mode described later. The 1 to 1 image forming mode is different from the 1 to N image forming mode described later, and is configured to output input image data input to the image forming apparatus directly to the exposure apparatus without passing through the
[0062]
Next,
[0063]
Incidentally, the image forming apparatus according to the present exemplary embodiment includes a
[0064]
In addition, because of such a configuration, it is not necessary to read the original N times by the image reading apparatus in the 1 to N image forming mode, and it has been preferably used in recent years because of the advantages of low noise and improved productivity of double-sided image formation.
[0065]
Further, in this configuration, after the image formation start signal is inputted, the supply time is not waited for a preparation time for starting the image formation (time until the peripheral speed of the photosensitive member is stabilized after the rotation is started). The feeding of the recording material from the
[0066]
On the other hand, it may take some time to store and develop the image data. In this embodiment, the recording material P is made to wait on the
[0067]
This is because the photosensitive member is not charged while waiting for completion of data accumulation and development. Actually, in the memory device used in this embodiment, an extra time of about 2 seconds is generated in the accumulation / development (D) of the image data, but the recording material P is placed at the position of the
210 (mm) +90 (mm) = 300 (mm)
300 (mm) / 150 (mm / sec) = 2 sec (E)
Since it extends, (A) + (B) + (C) + (E) = about 4.7 sec is a total charging time of 1 to 2.
[0068]
That is, the total charging time is 1 to N (N ≧ 2).
2.7 + 2 × (N−1)
It becomes. That is, the charging time per sheet is
{2.7 + 2 × (N−1)} / N <2.7
Thus, as N increases, the charging time per sheet decreases.
[0069]
For this reason, in 1 to 2 image formation, the charging time per A4 horizontal sheet is 2.35 sec.
8 (10,000 sheets) x 2.7 / 2.35 = 9.2 (10,000 sheets)
It was possible to extend the number of images that could be formed.
[0070]
FIG. 4 shows the relationship between N of 1 to N on the horizontal axis and the number of image-formable sheets (A4 horizontal) on the vertical axis.
[0071]
Also, in this configuration, the recording material is made to wait by the
[0072]
Also, the amount of input image data corresponding to the original image, for example, the print ratio (the number of characters in one page (predetermined area) (the number of characters having the same density), that is, the amount of image data in one page (total number of dots) The number of images that can be formed stably can be maintained without depending on the above)).
[0073]
Here, image data corresponding to a document image refers to image data of a document to be copied read by a scanner when the image forming apparatus is used with a copying machine, and when the image forming apparatus is used as a printer or FAX. Indicates image data sent from a computer or FAX through a line.
[0074]
<Comparative example>
As a comparative example, image formation was similarly performed with the configuration of the conventional example shown in FIG. In this configuration, the distance L between the nip position of the

Therefore, as shown in FIG. 5, a post-feed sensor (vertical path sensor) PS1 disposed in the recording material conveyance path upstream of the
[0077]
That is, since L0 = 141.3 mm, if charging is started within a predetermined time with reference to the sensor PS1, an area that should be after the leading edge of the image on the photoconductor is charged in advance until image formation, and an image defect (charging) Unevenness can be prevented.
[0078]
Therefore, a sequence in which charging is started when about 60 mm (400 msec) has passed from the point when the leading edge of the recording material P passes through the sensor PS1, and an image of a document (A4) 1to1 with a print ratio of 6% is first formed. The charging time required to form one image was about 2.7 sec as in Example 1, and 80,000 images could be formed on the side of A4.
[0079]
Next, similarly, 1 to N image formation was performed. By the way, also in the conventional example, the recording material P is made to wait at the position of the
[0080]
Since the standby time is about 2 sec as in the first embodiment, the total charging time of 1 to 2 is
It becomes.
[0081]
That is, the total charging time at 1 toN is
2.7 + 2 × (N−1) +2
It becomes.
[0082]
That is, the charging bias is applied to the
[0083]
Therefore, the charging time per sheet is
{2.7 + 2 × (N−1) +2} / N
Thus, a charging time of 3.35 sec per sheet is obtained at 1 to 2. The number of images that can be formed at this time is
8 (10,000 sheets) x 2.7 / 3.35 = 6.4 (10,000 sheets)
Will be depressed.
[0084]
FIG. 6 shows the relationship between N of 1 to N on the horizontal axis and the number of image-formable sheets (A4 horizontal) on the vertical axis. From this, the number of images that can be formed in 1 to 1 is less than 80,000 sheets until 1 to 4 image formation.
[0085]
By the way, the development time and the accumulation time of the image data in the above-described memory device change depending on the original printing rate, halftone reproduction, etc., and 2 sec is not always the reference, so the time In anticipation of this, it is impossible to control the sheet feeding timing.
[0086]
Further, when the feeding of the recording material P is started from the
[0087]
As a result, in the case of a document with a high printing rate or in the above-described high image quality mode in which halftones are to be reproduced better, it takes more time for image processing such as storage and development of input image data, so N is higher. Until now, the number of images that can be formed is less than 80,000.
[0088]
That is, in the first exemplary embodiment, the number of images that can be formed can be appropriately maintained regardless of the image forming mode (for example, the value of N in the 1 to N image forming mode).
[0089]
In this embodiment, the position of the synchronization means is arranged at a position 150 mm from the transfer area, that is, L = 150 mm. However, if the distance is longer than L0 (141.3 mm), the same effect can be obtained. However, in consideration of space saving and productivity of the image forming apparatus, L is preferably equal to or less than twice L0, and more preferably L and L0 are substantially equal (that is, feeding by the synchronous roller pair 50). It is substantially optimal to start charging the photosensitive member by the charging
[0090]
<Example 2>
In Example 1, it was possible to prevent a reduction in the number of images that can be formed during 1 to N image formation, but the position of the
[0091]
This is because when 1 to N (N ≧ 2), the standby position in Example 1 is 141.3 mm to the transfer area, and in the comparative example, the standby position of the recording material is 40 mm to the transfer area.
(141.3-40) /150=0.68 sec
This is because the waiting time becomes longer.
[0092]
Therefore, in this embodiment, as shown in the configuration of FIG. 7, the position of the
[0093]
That is, the time t1 for the leading edge of the first recording material to reach the transfer area from the synchronization means is
t1 = 100/150 = 0.67sec
From the start of charging of the photoconductor until the region of the photoconductor that has started charging passes through the charged region again and reaches the transfer region.
L0 (= π × 30 × (1 + 180/360)
) The moving time t0 is
t0 = π × 30 × (1 + 180/360) /300=0.47 sec
It has become.
[0094]
FIG. 8 shows a timing chart of the present embodiment (1 to 2).
[0095]
In this configuration, first, when a 1 to 1 image was formed on a document with a printing ratio of 6%, the charging time per A4 horizontal sheet was about 2.4 sec, but the scraping amount per 10,000 sheets was 2.5 μm. There was little difference in degree. This is because even if the charging time is shortened, the substantial charged area is the same.
[0096]
In Example 1, the charging time required for image formation on the A4 horizontal recording material is 0.63 sec (A) before image formation, 1.4 sec (B) during image formation, and 0.63 sec after image formation. (C) total
(A) + (B) + (C) = about 2.7 sec
However, in this embodiment, charging for one round before image formation is performed at a speed of 300 mm / sec, which is double the process speed in
94.2 / 300 = 0.314 sec (A ') for one round before image formation
(A ′) + (B) + (C) = about 2.4 sec.
Next, 1 to N image formation was performed in the same manner. As a result similar to Example 1, for example, 92,000 images could be formed in 1 to 2.
[0097]
In this embodiment, since the distance L from the transfer nip portion 7c to the

In this embodiment,

In addition to the processing such as accumulation and development of input image data input to the image forming apparatus as described in the first and second embodiments, the image formation is waited until, for example, the temperature of the fixing apparatus reaches a predetermined fixing temperature. Even when the image forming apparatus is used as a printer, or when the image formation is waited until the end of the development of the input image data, the photoconductor is charged extra by applying the

In the image forming apparatus according to the embodiment, the
[0104]
Even if the charging member is not necessarily in contact with the surface of the image bearing member with a pressure contact force, the charging member and the surface of the image bearing member are in close contact with each other as long as the dischargeable region determined by the voltage between the gap and the Paschen curve is reliably guaranteed. In the present invention, this is also a category of contact charging.
[0105]
As the waveform of the alternating voltage, a sine wave, a rectangular wave, a triangular wave, or the like can be used as appropriate.
[0106]
Instead of the alternating voltage, a constant voltage or a direct current controlled by a constant current can be used.
[0108]
The development method may be regular development.
[0109]
In the above embodiment, the contact charging transfer means is a transfer roller of a conductive roller, but is not limited to a roller type, and may be another rotating body such as a belt type. A corona discharge device for transfer may be used.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the configuration of the present invention, the power consumption required for charging the image carrier can be reduced as much as possible regardless of the image forming mode, the amount of input image data, and the like. Furthermore, it is possible to provide a good image free from unevenness of density and the like with high productivity, and to improve the life of the image carrier.
