この発明は、受信メールの転送を受ける端末装置の状態に応じてメールを転送する方法および、メールの転送を受ける端末装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
近年、例えば携帯電話などのメールを受信することが可能な通信端末が普及している。このような携帯端末は、プロバイダなどが有する情報センタに接続を行って、当該情報センタが蓄積している自己宛のメール転送を受けることができ、これにより、使用者は外出先においてもメールを読むことができるようになっている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、近年は画像などのファイルを添付したメールや、修飾的なタグが多く付されたメールなど、サイズの大きなメールが増えているが、携帯通信端末の備えるメモリには容量的な制限がある場合が多い。従って、携帯通信端末では、メモリに多数のデータが記憶されているような状態では、受信したメールを記憶することができず、受信しても表示させる処理を行えないという不具合が生じた。
本発明は、上述した課題を解決するためになされたものであり、端末装置の状態に応じてメールを転送することが可能なメールの転送方法、およびメールの転送を受ける端末装置を提供することを目的としている。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上述した課題を解決するために、請求項1に記載の発明は、受信したメールを第2の装置に対して転送するメール転送装置であって、メールを受信するメール処理部と、前記第2の装置と通信を行う通信処理部と、前記メール処理部と前記通信処理部を制御する制御部とを備え、前記制御部は、前記通信処理部より前記第2の装置からメモリの空き容量情報を受信し、受信した空き容量情報が表す空き容量が、転送する前記メールを記憶するために必要な容量を満たすか否かを判定し、容量を満たさない場合は、前記第2の装置のメモリに記憶されたデータの削除要求を前記通信処理部より前記第2の装置に送信し、容量を満たす場合は、前記通信処理部より、前記受信した前記メールの一部または全部を前記第2の装置に転送することを特徴とする。
請求項2に記載の発明は、請求項1に記載のメール転送装置であって、前記削除要求を前記通信処理部より前記第2の装置に送信した後、前記通信処理部より前記第2の装置の削除後のメモリの空き容量情報を含んだ情報を受信した場合、前記制御部は、受信した当該空き容量情報が表す空き容量が、転送する前記メールを記憶するために必要な容量を満たすか否かを判定し、容量を満たす場合は、前記通信処理部より前記受信した前記メールの一部または全部を前記第2の装置に転送することを特徴とする。
請求項3に記載の発明は、請求項1または請求項2に記載のメール転送装置であって、メールのアドレスと前記第2の装置の加入者番号とを対応させて記憶する記憶部を更に有し、前記通信処理部は、前記メール処理部がメールを受信した場合、前記メールのアドレスに対応した加入者番号に発呼することによって前記第2の装置と通信を行うことを特徴とする。
請求項4に記載の発明は、請求項1ないし3いずれかに記載のメール転送装置において、前記制御部は、受信した前記メールの中の特定の情報を抽出し、前記通信処理部より前記第2の装置に転送することを特徴とする。
請求項5に記載の発明は、請求項4記載のメール転送装置において、前記特定の情報は、前記メールのヘッダであることを特徴とする。
請求項6に記載の発明は、メールを受信した第1の装置から第2の装置に対してメールを転送する方法であって、前記第2の装置において、メールを記憶するメモリの空き容量情報を前記第1の装置に対して送信する第1の容量情報送信段階と、前記第1の装置において、受信した前記空き容量情報が表す空き容量が、転送する前記メールを記憶するために必要な容量に満たない場合は、前記第2の装置のメモリに記憶されたデータの削除要求を前記第2の装置に対して通知する削除要求段階と、前記第2の装置において、前記削除要求に基づいて前記メモリに記憶されたデータを削除する削除段階と、削除後の前記メモリの空き容量情報を前記第1の装置に送信する第2の容量情報送信段階と、送信された前記空き容量情報に応じて、前記第1の装置が受信した前記メールの一部または全部を前記第2の装置に転送するメール転送段階とを備えることを特徴とする。
請求項7に記載の発明は、メールを受信した第1の装置から第2の装置に対してメールを転送する方法であって、前記第1の装置から第2の装置に対して接続を行い、メールを受信した旨と、転送すべきメールのサイズと、削除要求とを告知する告知段階と、前記告知を受信すると、前記第2の装置が前記告知に基づいて、前記第2の装置が備えるメモリに記憶されたデータを削除する削除段階と、前記第2の装置から前記第1の装置に対して、前記第2の装置のメモリの空き容量情報を含んだ条件情報を送信する条件情報送信段階と、送信された前記条件情報に応じて、前記第1の装置が受信した前記メールの一部または全部を前記第2の装置に転送するメール転送段階とを備え、前記条件情報通知段階では、前記告知に基づいて前記メモリに記憶されたデータを削除した後の状態における前記空き容量情報を送信することを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
1.実施形態の構成
以下、図面を参照しながら、本発明の実施の形態について説明する。

1−1.実施形態の概要
まず、本実施形態の概要について説明する。図1は、本実施形態の全体構成を示す図であり、この図に示すように、携帯端末100、移動網200、情報センタ300、インターネット400、メール送信端末500、およびメール蓄積端末600を備えて構成されている。

携帯端末100は、移動網200によって情報センタ300と接続して、情報センタ300が蓄積している自己宛の受信メールの転送を受ける端末装置である。図2は、携帯端末100の外観構成を示す図であり、この図に示すように、携帯端末100はメールの内容などの情報を表示する表示部110や、種々の情報を入力するための操作部120を備えている。移動網200は、移動通信端末装置などの加入者間の回線接続を行うためのネットワークであり、図示は省略しているが多数の端末装置が接続可能になっている。
情報センタ300は、インターネット400からメールを受信する装置であって、後に説明するように、移動網200を介して接続された携帯端末100に対して受信メールを転送するものである。インターネット400に接続されているメール送信端末500は、インターネットプロトコルに従ってメールを送信する不特定の装置である。
また、メール蓄積端末600は、情報センタ300からインターネット400を介して転送されたメールを蓄積する装置であり、例えば携帯端末100の使用者が所有するパーソナルコンピュータや、使用者の属する会社で使用するパーソナルコンピュータなどが該当する。

1−2.実施形態の機能構成
次に、本実施形態における携帯端末100および情報センタ300の機能構成について説明する。

(1)携帯端末の機能構成
図3は、携帯端末100の機能構成を示す図である。携帯端末100は、表示部110、操作部120、制御部130、通信処理部140、メモリ150、および容量管理部160を備えて構成されており、各部はそれぞれ以下のような機能を有している。

表示部110は、文字や画像などを表示するものであり、例えば液晶ディスプレイなどを備えて構成されている。本実施形態では、表示部110には、転送されたメールの内容が表示されたり、使用者が各種設定や選択を行う場合に必要な情報が表示される。
操作部120は、各種情報を入力するためのユーザインターフェイスであり、図2に示すように、数字を入力したり、カーソルを移動させるための操作子などを備えている。各々の操作は逐次検出されて、操作に応じた処理が制御部130によって行われるようになっている。
制御部130は、各部の動作を制御するものであり、メモリ150に記憶されたプログラムに従って動作するCPUを備えている。本実施形態では、制御部130は、通常の携帯端末として動作するための処理の他に、メールの転送を受けるための処理を行う。

通信処理部140は、移動網200との通信インターフェイスであり、移動網200を介して回線接続した情報センタ300からメールなどのデータを受信したり、メールの転送を受けるための条件情報を送信するものである。
メモリ150は、情報センタ300から転送されたメールの他、各種のプログラムや設定情報などを記憶するメモリであり、電源が遮断された後も記憶内容を保持する。メモリ150の容量は、携帯可能な端末に搭載して適切な程度のものを用いればよい。容量管理部160は、メモリ150の記憶状態を検出して空き容量を管理するものであり、本実施形態では、容量管理部160において管理されている情報を、メールの転送を受ける際の条件情報として情報センタ300に送信するようになっており、情報センタ300は、メモリ150の空き容量に応じてメールの転送を行う。

(2)情報センタの機能構成
図4は、情報センタの機能構成を示す図である。情報センタ300は、制御部310、設定記憶部320、メール処理部330、メール蓄積部340、および通信処理部350を備えて構成されており、各部はそれぞれ以下のような機能を有している。

制御部310は、情報センタ300の各部の制御を行うものであり、プログラムに従って動作するCPUを備えており、メール送信端末500から送信されたメールをインターネット400から受信して携帯端末100に転送する処理などを行うものである。
設定記憶部320は、携帯端末100にメールを転送するための各種設定を記憶しておくものであり、制御部310はここに記憶された設定および携帯端末100から送信された条件情報に基づいて、携帯端末100に対してメールの転送を行うようになっている。なお、ここに記憶された設定のより具体的な内容については、図5を参照しながら後述する。

メール処理部330は、インターネット400からメールを受信するものであり、メール蓄積部340は、メール処理部330においてインターネット400から受信したメールを蓄積しておくものである。すなわち、受信メールは一旦メール蓄積部340に蓄積されてから、各携帯端末100あるいはメール蓄積端末600に転送されるようになっている。
通信処理部350は、移動網200との通信を行うためのインターフェイスであり、本実施形態では、移動網200を介して接続された携帯端末100に対して受信メールを転送するために用いられる。

ここで、図5は、設定記憶部320に記憶されている受信メールを転送するための設定例を示す図である。本実施形態では、情報センタ300におけるユーザのアドレス毎に、当該アドレス宛に着信したメールを転送すべき携帯端末100の加入者番号と、転送先のアドレスとを対応付けて記憶している。図5に示す例では、情報センタ300は、宛先のドメイン名が“senter”となっているメールをインターネット400から受信し、ユーザ毎に設定されている転送先(ユーザが“ABC”であれば、加入者番号“090-11-123456”の携帯端末100および、“ABC@company.co.jp”宛のメールを受信するメール蓄積端末600)にメールを転送できるようになっている。

また、本実施形態では、情報センタ300がメールを受信した旨を携帯端末100に告知すべき条件と、受信メールが複数ある場合に携帯端末100に転送する優先順位と、メールを転送した後の処理とを、それぞれ設定できるようになっており、各ユーザアドレスごとに設定が記憶されている。
通知条件としては、本実施形態では、以下に示す3つの設定の中から選択できるようになっている。1番目は、所定時間毎に受信メールの有無や受信数などを通知するという設定であり、2番目は、メールの着信件数が所定件数を超えた場合に通知するという設定であり、3番目は、特定の発信者アドレスであるメールを受信した場合に通知するという設定である。
転送順位としては、1番目に送信日時、2番目に発信アドレス、3番目にサイズの中から選択できるようになっている。
転送後処理としては、1番目は転送アドレス宛にメールを転送することによって蓄積端末600にメールを蓄積させる設定で、2番目は情報センタ300のメール蓄積部340にそのまま蓄積しておく設定で、3番目は携帯端末100にメールを転送した後はメール蓄積部340からは削除するという設定の中から選択できるようになっている。

また、図6は、メール蓄積部340におけるメールの蓄積例であり、本実施形態では、この図に示すように、各受信メール毎に、発信アドレスや、送信日時、サイズなどの情報を管理している。なお、このような情報は、後に説明するメールのヘッダから抽出することができる。

2.実施形態の動作
次に、上記構成を有する実施形態の動作について説明する。
2−1.全体動作
(1)動作の概要
まずは、本実施形態の概要動作について説明する。ここで、図7は、メールの構成を示す概略図であり、この図に示すように、メールはヘッダ部分と本文部分を備えて構成されている。ヘッダは、メールに関する書誌的な情報が記されたテキストデータであり、主に、送信日時(“Date:”)、発信者(“From:”)、宛先(“Tob:”)、題名(“Sub:”)などが記されている。
本文部分はメールの内容を示すテキストデータである。なお、テキストデータ以外の形式のデータファイルが添付されている場合もある。

本実施形態では、携帯端末100が備えるメモリ105の空き容量が十分ではない場合は、携帯端末100にはヘッダのみを転送し、メール全体をメール蓄積端末600に転送する。例えば、図8に示すように、“ABC@senter.ne.jp”宛の着信メールが複数あった場合に、設定記憶部320に記憶された設定によって抽出されたメールのサイズが4Kb(うち、ヘッダ1Kb)であったとする。このとき、当該着信アドレスに対応した加入者番号の携帯端末100が備えるメモリ150の空き容量が1Kbであったとすると、情報センタ300は、携帯端末100にはヘッダのみを転送し、メール全体についてはメール蓄積端末600に転送する。
本実施形態では、携帯端末100にメールを転送する場合は、加入者番号“090-11-123456”に発呼することによって携帯端末100に接続してメールを転送する。一方、メール蓄積端末600にメールを転送する場合には、メールアドレス“ABC@company.co.jp”宛にメールの転送を行う。

これにより、携帯端末100の使用者は、メモリ150の空き容量が少ない場合であっても、ヘッダの転送は受けることができるので、送信者や題名などの情報は把握できる。メール全体については、自己が有する他のアドレス(例えば会社でのメールアドレス)に転送されており、メール蓄積端末600において内容を確認できる。
また、携帯端末100が備えるメモリ150の空き容量が十分にある場合にはメール全体を携帯端末100に転送し、空き容量が十分ではない場合には、まずメモリ150の不要なデータを削除して空き容量を増やすことを促す。以下、これらの動作について詳細に説明する。

(2)動作の流れ
図9は、本実施形態の動作を示すシーケンスフローである。なお、図9に示す動作は、転送後処理は「蓄積端末転送」(図5参照)が選択されている場合である。
情報センタ300がインターネット400からメールを受信して通知条件を満たすと、携帯端末100に対してメールを受信した旨の告知を行う(s1)。受信告知を受けた携帯端末100は、メモリ150の空き容量を検出して、情報センタ300に対して空き容量を通知するとともにメールの転送要求を行う(s2)。
情報センタ300は、空き容量通知の内容と受信メールのサイズとに基づいて携帯端末100に対して不要データの削除要求を行い(s3)、携帯端末100は削除要求に応じて不要なデータを削除した後に、情報センタ300に対して削除結果を通知する(s4)。

削除結果の通知を受けた情報センタ300は、携帯端末100が備えるメモリ150の空き容量に応じて受信メールを携帯端末100に転送し(s5)、メール蓄積端末600に対してもメールの転送を行う(s6)。
いまだ携帯端末100に転送を行っていないメールがメール蓄積部340に残っている場合は、携帯端末100に対して未読メールが残っている旨の通知を行い(s7)、これに応じて携帯端末100は、情報センタ300に対して空き容量を通知するとともにメールの転送要求を行う(s8)。ステップs3〜s6と同様に、情報センタ300は、空き容量通知の内容と受信メールのサイズとに基づいて携帯端末100に対して不要データの削除要求を行い(s9)、携帯端末100は削除要求に応じて不要なデータを削除した後に、情報センタ300に対して削除結果を通知する(s10)。削除結果の通知を受けた情報センタ300は、携帯端末100が備えるメモリ150の空き容量に応じて受信メールを携帯端末100に転送し(s11)、メール蓄積端末600に対してもメールの転送を行う(s12)。
そして、携帯端末100に転送を行っていないメールがメール蓄積部340に残っていない場合は、情報センタ300は、携帯端末100との通信を切断する(s13)。

2−2.各装置の動作
次に、情報センタ300および携帯端末100の各々の動作について、図10、〜図12に示すフローチャートおよび、図9のシーケンスフローと図13に示す表示の具体例を適宜参照しながら説明する。

(1)情報センタの動作
図10は、情報センタ300の動作を示すフローチャートである。インターネット400からメールを受信すると(S301)、制御部310は、受信メールをメール蓄積部340に記憶させて受信メールの登録を行う(S302)。そして、受信メールの宛先アドレスを抽出して、設定記憶部320に記憶されている設定に基づいて受信した旨の告知が必要であるか否かを判定する(S303)。ここでは、通知条件が例えば所定時間毎であれば、先に告知を行ってから所定時間を経過したか否かを判定し、告知条件が着信件数であればメール蓄積部340に蓄積されたメールのうち、同じ宛先のメールが所定件数を超えたか否かを判定し、告知条件が発信アドレスであれば受信メールの発信アドレスが設定されたアドレスであるか否かを判定する(設定については、図5参照)。

ステップS303の判定において、メールを受信した旨の告知が必要ではないと判定した場合は(S303;NO)処理をステップS301に移行させ、メールを受信した旨の告知が必要であると判定した場合は(S303;YES)、携帯端末100に対して受信告知を行う(S304)。ここでは、先に説明したように、情報センタ300は受信メールの宛先と対応付けて設定記憶部320に記憶されている加入者番号に発呼を行うことによって携帯端末100との接続を行った後、必要な情報を携帯端末100に送信する。

情報センタ300は、携帯端末100に受信告知を行った後に、当該携帯端末100から転送要求を受信したか否かを判定し(S305)、携帯端末100から転送要求を受信したと判定した場合は(S305;YES)、携帯端末100に備えられたメモリ150の空き容量が、転送すべきメールを記憶するために十分であるか否かについて、転送要求とともに送信された空き容量通知に基づいて判定する(S306)。ここで、メモリ150の空き容量が不足していると判定した場合は(S306;NO)、携帯端末150に対して削除要求を送信する(S307)。削除要求としては、受信メールのサイズを含む情報を携帯端末に送信する。
そして、処理をステップS306に移行させ、削除要求に応じて携帯端末100から送信された削除結果通知に基づいてメモリ150の空き容量が十分であるか否かを判定する(S306)。

ステップS306の判定において、空き容量ありと判定した場合は(S306;YES)、携帯端末100に転送すべきメールをメモリ150の空き容量に応じて抽出して(S308)、抽出したメールを携帯端末100に転送する(S309)。メールの抽出については、メモリ150の空き容量が転送すべきメールのサイズの合計よりも多ければ全メールを送信するが、1件分の空き容量であれば1件分のみ転送する。また、1件分の空き容量もない場合は、ヘッダのみを転送する。すなわち、ステップS306において空き容量ありと判定される基準は、最低は1件分のヘッダのサイズとなる。
情報センタ300は、携帯端末100に対してメールを転送した後、設定記憶部320に記憶された設定に従って転送後の処理を行う(S310)。転送後の処理として、蓄積端末保存が選択されている場合には転送アドレスあてに転送メールを送信し、転送後の処理として削除が選択されている場合には、ステップS309において送信したメールはメール蓄積部340から削除する(設定については、図5参照)。

そして、メール蓄積部340に記憶されたメールのうちの同じ着信アドレスのもので、携帯端末100に転送を行っていないものがあるか否か、すなわち未読メールがあるか否かを判定し(S311)、未読メールがあると判定した場合には(S311;YES)、未読メールがある旨の通知を携帯端末100に送信して(S312)、処理をステップS305の判定に移行させる。そして、未読通知に対応して携帯端末100から送信される転送要求があるか否かを判定する(S305)。ここで、転送要求を受信しなかったと判定した場合は(S305;NO)処理をステップS313に移行させて携帯端末100との通信を切断する(S313)。通信切断後は、処理はステップS301に戻って、次のメールの受信を行う(S301)。

(2)携帯端末の動作
図11は、携帯端末100の動作を示すフローチャートである。携帯端末100は、情報センタ300からメールを受信した旨の告知を受けると(S101)、当該受信告知に応じて転送要求を行うか否かを判定する(S102)。ここでは、図13(a)に示すように、告知されたメールの転送を受けるか否かを選択させるメッセージを表示部110に表示させる。この表示に従って、使用者が操作部120を操作すると、操作内容が検出されて、制御部130は転送要求を行うか否かを判定する。図13に示す例では、「1」キーが操作された場合には転送要求を行うと判定し、「0」キーが操作された場合は転送要求を行わないと判定する。

ステップS102の判定において、転送要求を行うと判定した場合は(S102;YES)、メモリ150の空き容量を検出して転送要求とともに空き容量を情報センタ300に通知する(S103)。
そして、空き容量通知に応じて情報センタ300から削除要求が送信されたか否かを判定し(S104)、削除要求が送信されなかったと判定した場合は(S104;NO)、情報センタ300から転送メールを受信し(S105)、削除要求が送信されたと判定した場合は(S104;YES)メール削除処理を行った後に(S120)、情報センタ300から転送メールを受信する(S105)。なお、メール削除処理については、図12に示すフローチャートを参照して後述する。また、図13に示す例では、(b)に示すように、着信メールのサイズとメモリ150の容量と空き容量とを表示するとともに、メモリ150に現在記憶されているメールのリストおよびサイズを表示して、使用者に削除すべきメールを選択させるようにしている。

さて、制御部130は、受信した転送メールをメモリ150に記憶した後、図13(c)に示すように、表示部110にメールの内容を表示する処理を行う(S106)。メールを表示部120に表示させた後は、このメールをメモリ150に保存するか否かを判定し(S107)、保存すると判定した場合は(S107;YES)、情報センタ300から未読メールがある旨の通知を受けたか否かの判定を行う(S109)。一方、ステップS107の判定において、保存しないと判定した場合は(S107;NO)、当該メールをメモリ150から削除した後に(S108)、情報センタ300から未読メールがある旨の通知を受けたか否かの判定を行う(S109)。

ステップS109の判定において、未読メールがないと判定した場合は(S109;NO)、情報センタ300から通信を切断されるので、通信の切断処理を行って(S110)、携帯端末100における転送メール受信処理を終了する。一方、未読メールがあると判定した場合は(S109;YES)、処理をステップS102に移行させて、転送要求を行うか否かの判定を行う(S102)。ここでは、例えば図13(d)に示すように、未読メールがある旨のメッセージと、転送要求を行うか否かを選択させるメッセージを表示部110に表示する。
ステップS102の判定において転送要求を行わないと判定した場合は(S102;NO)、情報センタ300から通信を切断されるので、通信の切断処理を行って(S110)、携帯端末100における転送メール受信処理を終了する。

ここで、図12は、メール削除処理(図11:S120)を示すフローチャートである。メール削除処理においては、まず、制御部130は容量管理部160において管理されているメモリ150の空き容量を検出し(S121)、図13(b)、(e)に示すように、表示部110に記憶状態を表示させる処理を行う(S122)。表示部110には、削除するメールの指示を促すとともに削除を行うか否かの選択を促す表示を行い、この表示に従って行われた操作部120のキー操作を検出して、制御部130は削除指示が行われたか否かの判定を行う(S123)。図13に示す例では、(b)あるいは(e)の表示が行われているときに「1」キーが操作された場合は、削除指示があったものと判定し、「0」キーが操作された場合には削除指示が行われなかったと判定する。

ステップS123の判定において、削除指示がなされたと判定した場合は(S123;YES)、指示されたメールをメモリ150から削除して(S124)、処理を121に移行させる。削除すべきメールの指示は、例えば図13(b)あるいは(e)に示すように、メモリ150に記憶されているメールのタイトルとサイズを表示させ、各メール毎に削除するか否かを選択するチェックボックスを表示する。チェックボックスのオン/オフの決定は、例えばカーソルキーでカーソルを移動させて、選択されているタイトルにおいて「#」キーを操作するとチェックのオン/オフ状態が反転する。
