本発明を図示の実施例に基づいて詳細に説明する。
図1は実施例の一部を切欠した分解側面図であり、電気コネクタは電線を後部に接続した複数の接続端子を収容するハウジング1と、このハウジング1の後部に係合してハウジング1に収容した接続端子を係止するリアホルダ2とから構成されている。これらのハウジング1とリアホルダ2は、合成樹脂材料からほぼ上下対称に形成されており、リアホルダ2はハウジング1に対して後方から略中間まで挿入されて接続端子の挿入を許容する仮係合位置と、ハウジング1に対して十分に押し込まれて接続端子を所定の位置まで押し込む本係合位置とで錠止可能とされている。

以上説明したように本発明に係る電気コネクタでは、軸線方向に延在する従来の錠止アームが不要となるので、ハウジングとリアホルダの軸線方向の長さを短縮できると共に、それらの間のがたつきを防止できる。また、錠止突起は左右壁を撓ませながら移動するので、錠止突起を大きくすることが可能となり、仮係止位置と本係止位置におけるハウジングとリアホルダの間の保持力を向上できる。
