上記した従来例の他にも、長さを短くするために可動片や羽などを一体に成形した自動調芯接続装置が提案されているが、いずれも形状が複雑で実用性に欠けるものであった。
本発明は、接続作業時には長さが長いが、接続終了後には長さが短い自動調芯接続装置の提供を目的とする。

請求項1記載の発明は、端子収納部及び相手側コネクタを収容するコネクタ収容部とを備えたハウジング本体と、該ハウジング本体に嵌合方向にスライド可能に取付けられ、かつ相手側コネクタを前記コネクタ収容部に案内する鞘部とを設け、前記端子収納部に端子を収納し、相手側コネクタと嵌合して該コネクタを前記収容部に案内して収容してから前記鞘部を相手側コネクタの嵌合方向にスライドすることを特徴とする自動調芯接続装置である。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の一実施形態を示す図に基づき詳細に説明する。図1において1は自動調芯接続装置で、該自動調芯接続装置1は、端子(例えばオスコネクタ)2および相手側のコネクタ(例えばメスコネクタ)3を収納するハウジング本体11と、該ハウジング本体11にスライド自在に設けた鞘部12とからなり、鞘部12は開口部12a(図2(イ)、(ロ)参照)の間口が広くなっており、該開口部12aからハウジング本体11側に向けて幅が狭まる相手側コネクタ3を案内するリブ13が設けられている。図1で15は鞘部12の上下移動のストッパー、17は鞘部12を上方に位置させるための係止片である。このような接続装置1で端子2と相手側コネクタ3とを接続するには、図2(イ)に示すようにハウジング本体11の前方に位置させた鞘部12の案内リブ13に沿わせて相手側コネクタ3を端子2方向に前進させれば、自動的に調芯されて図2(ロ)に示すように端子2と相手側コネクタ3は正確に接続され、かつ、鞘部12はハウジング本体11側にスライドして後退し、接続装置1の大きさはハウジング本体11の大きさに略等しくなる。

図3及び図4は、ハウジング本体11と鞘部12との係合状態を示すもので、図3は鞘部12がハウジング本体11を上下にスライドした時の上下移動のストッパーの機構で、ハウジング本体11の壁面に鞘部12がスライドするだけの長さの閉鎖溝または貫通孔14を設け、該溝または貫通孔14に鞘部12に設けたストッパー15(突起)を係合して鞘部12のスライド距離を規制するとともに鞘部12がハウジング本体から抜けるのを防止している。このスライド−ストッパー機構は、1か所でもよく、あるいは4か所程度設けてもよい。

図4は鞘部12をハウジング本体11の上方に位置させるためのストッパー機構を示すもので、鞘部12の壁面を2か所切り欠いた状態の片持ち片16を形成し、この片持ち片16の頂上に鳥の嘴状の係止片17、即ち図示するように上方が鞘部12の内側に向かって低く傾斜し、長さがハウジング本体11の上壁を少し越える長さを有する係止片17が設けられている。
この係止片17は、鞘部12の内側に向かって傾斜させているため、相手側コネクタ3のハウジング本体11内への案内リブ13と、相手側コネクタ3の壁面で係止片17が鞘部12の外方に押されて係止片17をハウジング上壁から外す力を加えることとなる。
即ち、係止片17は鞘部12をハウジング本体11に係止する役割と、相手側コネクタ3を挿入する時には、相手側コネクタ3を端子2に案内しつつ、自身は外側に傾斜してハウジング本体11の上壁から外れる作用をする。従って、係止片17のハウジング本体11上壁と接する面を鞘部12の外側に低く傾斜する傾斜面としておくと係合を外す力が少なくて済むので好ましい。
なお、鞘部12の片持ち片16の頂上に設けた係止片17は、ハウジング本体11の上壁から外れた後はハウジング本体11の外壁に圧接接触して鞘部12の動きを規制する。従って鞘部12は端子2と相手側コネクタ3とが接続された後はハウジング本体11の外壁の所定位置に止められた状態で係止される。
この片持ち片16は、鞘部12の1か所に設けてもよく、あるいは4か所程度に設けてもよい。

本発明の自動調芯接続装置は、上述したように、ハウジング本体11に収納された端子2に相手側コネクタ3を接続する際、手探りでも正確に接続作業ができ、しかも、相手側コネクタ3を端子2に案内する鞘部12は接続完了後はハウジング本体11の外側に沿ってスライドして装置全体の長さが短くなるので狭い場所でも使用できる。

【発明の効果】
以上に述べたように、本発明の自動調芯接続装置は、一方のコネクタを配置するハウジング本体と、該ハウジング本体にスライド自在に取り付けた相手側コネクタを案内する鞘部とからなり、前記鞘部は端子に相手側コネクタを接続する際にはハウジングの前方に位置し、接続終了時にはハウジング本体方向にスライドして後退しているので、自動車のドアトリム裏などの狭い箇所に好適に使用でき、工業上顕著な効果を奏する。
