Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a knee airbag module mounting structure that is housed in an instrument panel and protects a passenger's knee in the event of a collision.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Vehicles are equipped with seat belts and airbag modules that protect the occupant's chest and head in the event of a collision, knee airbag modules that protect the knee, and the like as occupant protection devices.
The knee airbag module has a high gas pressure to deploy the airbag at a narrow distance (stroke) from the occupant's knee, and if the reaction can has a slit or hole in order to facilitate deformation, the stiffness will decrease. Therefore, it is difficult to have sufficient rigidity to receive a reaction force when the airbag is deployed. For this reason, the reaction can has a high rigidity and is not easily deformed. When the occupant moves forward at the time of a collision, if the knee airbag does not completely absorb the energy, the knee is the reaction can. There is a risk that a large load will be generated.
[0003]
Therefore, as a structure for mounting the knee airbag module to the vehicle body, a reaction can that accommodates the knee airbag and the inflator is fixed to the front deck cross member of the vehicle body via a mounting bracket that can be bent in the front-rear direction. When the knee is not fully absorbed by the knee airbag when moving forward, the mounting bracket is bent and deformed to absorb energy when the knee pushes the reaction can (For example, refer to Patent Document 1).
[0004]
[Patent Document 1]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 9-123863
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the mounting bracket for fixing the reaction can to the front deck cross member requires a thick steel plate in order to provide sufficient rigidity to receive the reaction force when the airbag is deployed. However, there is a problem that the weight increases.
[0006]
The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and has sufficient rigidity to receive a reaction force during deployment of a knee airbag, and the knee airbag of the occupant reacts due to insufficient energy absorption of the knee airbag. An object is to provide a knee airbag module mounting structure that absorbs energy when a can is pushed.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, according to the first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a knee airbag module mounting structure that is disposed facing the occupant's knee and is fixed to the front deck cross member of the vehicle body via left and right mounting brackets. Fastening means for fastening the reaction can accommodating the knee airbag and the inflator and the mounting bracket so as to be relatively displaceable, and displacing the reaction can while plastically deforming when a load pushing the reaction can increases. The fastening means has a horizontal portion projecting laterally from the left and right side walls of the reaction can, and a support member provided with an attachment hole for attaching the reaction can to the mounting bracket. And a horizontal bottom that is a mounting portion with a horizontal portion of the support member at a rear end portion of the mounting bracket And a fastening member for inserting and fastening the mounting hole and the slit and plastically deforming the slit, and the mounting bracket is obliquely upward and forward on the vehicle front side of the bottom portion. The front end is fixed to the front deck cross member .
[0008]
When the vehicle collides, the knee airbag is deployed, the occupant moves forward, the knee pushes the knee airbag, and the energy generated in the knee is absorbed. At this time, since the reaction can is firmly fixed to the front deck cross member by the mounting bracket, the reaction can has sufficient rigidity to receive a reaction force when the knee airbag is deployed. And when the load that the knee part pushes the knee airbag becomes high, the reaction can is pushed, and the slit is pushed and expanded by the fastening member, and the reaction can is horizontally displaced while the fastening means is plastically deformed (breakage) . Absorbs energy applied by the knee . Accordingly, the knee airbag module can restrain and protect the knee without moving to the front of the vehicle body and generating a large load on the knee.

【The invention's effect】
In the first aspect of the invention, since the reaction can is firmly fixed to the front deck cross member by the mounting bracket , the reaction can has sufficient rigidity to receive a reaction force when the knee airbag is deployed. When the vehicle crashes and the load of the occupant's knee pushing the knee airbag increases, the reaction can is pushed and the slit is pushed out by the fastening member, and the fastening means is plastically deformed and added by the knee. By displacing the reaction can horizontally while absorbing the generated energy , the knee can be restrained and protected without generating a large load on the knee.
[0023]
Moreover, it is possible to reduce the cost and weight of the mounting bracket by absorbing the load applied to the reaction can by the fastening member that fastens the mounting bracket to which the reaction can is attached to the vehicle body and the reaction can .
