図4に示すスポンジからなる耳栓10Aは、細いロール状に変形させ、耳道に挿入して装着する。耳栓10Aは押圧されることで一旦は縮小するが、耳道挿入後段々と形状が回復し、耳栓は耳道と完全に密着した状態になり、防音効果を奏するものである。

又、米国では、シリコンからなる耳栓が普及している。図5に示すように、シリコンからなる耳栓10Bは、球状にし、耳の穴にあて、指で耳の穴のまわりに押し広げるようにして装着することで、防音・防水効果が得られる。

しかし、図4のスポンジからなる耳栓の場合、スポンジという材質上、騒音を防ぐ効果が十分でなく、また、使用していくうちに、耳の老廃物がスポンジに付着するばかりでなく、耳栓の弾性も次第に失われてしまうため、早期に耳栓としての機能を果たさなくなるという問題を有する。
又、図5のシリコンからなる耳栓は、材料のシリコンが肌に対して粘着性を有することが機能上重要で、この粘着性のために、スポンジからなる耳栓より顕著に、耳の老廃物が付着して汚れ易いばかりでなく、シリコンの粘着性が早期に失われる問題がある。しかも、使用法を間違えて耳道に挿入すると、取出すのが困難で、ちぎれて耳道に残った場合は、一層、取出しが困難になるという問題がある。
特に、シリコンからなる耳栓は、本来、耳道に挿入して装着するものではなく、粘着性を利用して、耳穴の入口に貼付ける形で使用されなければならないので、防音効果は必ずしも満足できるものではなかった。

図1に、本発明の実施形態の耳栓を示す。

図1に、本発明の実施形態の耳栓を示す。
この耳栓10は、栓本体20と栓本体20を全体として被覆する、予め袋状に成形されたプラスチックフィルムのカバー30からなる。

そして、挿入後、後端を押圧することで変形させ、耳の穴の入口部分を完全に塞ぐことができる。
