BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a dimerization catalyst composition and a dimerization method for olefins having 4 or more carbon atoms such as butene, pentene, and hexene. More specifically, a dimerization catalyst composition of an olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms using a zero-valent nickel compound, a trivalent organic phosphorus compound, a fluorinated sulfonic acid and a fluorinated alcohol as catalyst components, and a carbon number of 4 using the catalyst composition. This is a method for dimerizing olefins as described above. The olefin product having 8 or more carbon atoms obtained by the olefin dimerization method of the present invention is an industrially useful compound used as a phthalate ester raw material which is a plasticizer for a synthetic resin.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, a method for dimerizing an olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms has been extensively studied so far, and a mixture of a nickel compound and an organoaluminum halide is known as a dimerization catalyst (for example, JP-B-47). No. 26482). Further, an organophosphorus compound such as phosphine (JP-A-6-192138), phosphite (JP-A-5-339174) or phosphonite (JP-A-9-268132) is added to the catalyst as a third component. It is disclosed that dimerization activity and selectivity can be improved. However, in any of these methods, the organoaluminum compound is positioned as an essential component in the catalyst, and the addition of the organophosphorus compound as the third component slightly improves the catalyst activity and product selectivity. , Did not lead to fundamental improvement. Furthermore, when a dimerization product is considered for the use of the phthalate ester, the dimerization product is particularly preferably an unbranched normal body, and even if a monomethyl body having one branch can be used, there are 2 branches. Multi-branched olefins such as dimethyl compounds were not suitable as raw materials. However, many dimethyl compounds which are unnecessary in the conventional catalyst system are by-produced and a satisfactory product distribution cannot be obtained, which is disadvantageous in industrial implementation.
[0003]
On the other hand, US Pat. No. 5,221,775 discloses a method using a zerovalent nickel compound, a phosphine, a fluorinated organic acid, and a fluorinated alcohol in an ethylene dimerization reaction. However, even if the catalytic activity of ethylene dimerization is usually high, when applied to the dimerization of olefins having 4 or more carbon atoms, the catalytic activity is extremely lowered, and sufficient activity for industrialization is often not obtained. In addition, regarding the description of the fluorinated organic acid in the US patent, there is a description limited to fluorinated carboxylic acid in claim 8, and in the examples, only trifluoroacetic acid is used. There is no statement suggesting that other organic acids are particularly superior. The present inventors dimerized an olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms using a zerovalent nickel compound, a phosphine, a fluorinated carboxylic acid and a fluorinated alcohol, and it was found that the activity was extremely low.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As a result of intensive studies to solve the above problems, the present inventors have found that the use of a catalyst having a zero-valent nickel compound, a trivalent organic phosphorus compound, a fluorinated sulfonic acid and a fluorinated alcohol as catalyst components is extremely high. The inventors have found a method capable of dimerizing an olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms with high activity and high selectivity, and have completed the present invention.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
That is, the present invention relates to a dimerization catalyst composition of an olefin having 4 or more carbon atoms using a zero-valent nickel compound, a trivalent organic phosphorus compound, a fluorinated sulfonic acid and a fluorinated alcohol as catalyst components, and further using the catalyst composition. Aromatic hydrocarbon solvents such as benzene, toluene, xylene, mesitylene, and fluorobenzene, ether solvents such as diethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran, and dioxane, methanol, ethanol And aprotic polar solvents such as alcohols such as propanol, acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, hexamethylphosphotriamide and the like. A mixture thereof may also be used. More preferably, it is toluene. These solvents can be used in a range where the concentration of the nickel compound is 0.0001 to 1 mmol / ml.
[0014]
As reaction conditions for the dimerization carried out in the present invention, the reaction temperature is carried out in the range of −10 to 150 ° C., more preferably in the range of 20 to 80 ° C. Even if an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon, or a lower hydrocarbon such as methane, ethane, propane or butane is present in the reaction atmosphere, the reaction can be carried out without any problems. The reaction time varies depending on the reaction conditions and catalyst components, but may be selected from the range of several minutes to 72 hours.
[0015]
After completion of the reaction, the target compound can be obtained by inactivating the catalyst with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution or the like and then treating it according to a conventional method such as distillation.
[0016]
Dimerization products that can be produced according to the present invention are olefins having 8 or more carbon atoms, and specifically include octenes, methylheptenes, nonenes, methyloctenes, decenes, methylnonenes, dodecenes, methyldecenes. There can be mentioned.
[0017]
The specific method for dimerizing the olefin carried out in the present invention is not particularly limited. For example, first, a mixture of a nickel compound with a fluorinated alcohol or a solvent such as a nickel compound, a fluorinated alcohol and toluene. Add phosphine to the mixture consisting of and mix. This can be preferably achieved by adding olefin and fluorinated sulfonic acid to the solution in this order.

【Example】
Examples of the present invention are shown below, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
Example 1
An internal volume 200 ml stainless steel pressure-resistant container was heated and dried, then purged with nitrogen, and premixed bis (cycloocta-1,5-diene) nickel 19.3 mg (0.07 mmol), triphenylphosphine 18.4 mg (0 0.07 mmol, molar ratio to nickel 1) A solution consisting of 2 ml of toluene and 2 ml of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol, and 66 ml of 1-butene were added. Further, 105 mg (0.07 mmol, molar ratio to nickel) of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid was added, and the reaction vessel was sealed and stirred at 45 ° C. for 1 hour. 2 ml of 5% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution was added to stop the reaction.
[0019]
The reaction solution was analyzed by gas chromatography. The results are shown in Table 1.
[0020]
-Examples 2-5
The same operation as in Example 1 was repeated except that the type of phosphine and the molar ratio to nickel were used as shown in Table 1. The results are shown in Table 1.
[0021]
-Comparative Examples 1-2
The same operation as in Example 1 was repeated except that the compounds shown in Table 2 were used in place of the fluorinated sulfonic acid. The results are shown in Table 2. Dimer activity, selectivity, and C8 olefin product distribution were better when fluorinated sulfonic acid was used.

【The invention's effect】
The olefin dimerization method of the present invention enables highly active and highly selective production of industrially useful olefins having 8 or more carbon atoms used as a phthalate ester raw material that is a plasticizer for synthetic resins. It was. Furthermore, since the dimerization product has a low-branched product distribution in which the formation of dimethyl compounds is suppressed as compared with the conventional method, a better olefin dimerization catalyst composition and dimerization method as a plasticizer raw material are provided. Can be provided.
