Description
【0001】
【0007】
R={(n2−n1)/(n2+n1)}2 …(1)
また、透過率Tは上記(1)式で表される反射率Rから次式で表される。
【0008】
T=1−R …(2)
また、図6に示すように、例えば物質2が基板状の固体の場合には、入射光102は、基板の表裏両方の界面で2度反射する。この場合、各界面での反射率(入射光に対する反射光の比)をRとすると、基板での反射率R0は次式で表される。
【0009】
R0=2R/(1+R) …(3)
また、基板での透過率(入射光に対する透過光の比)T0は次式で表される。
【0010】
T0=(1−R)/(1+R) …(4)
【0013】
Rp=T0 2 …(5)
【0029】
R1={(nC 2−n1×n2)/(nC 2+n1×n2)}2 …(6)
【0042】
D=λ/(4n)・・・(7)

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image display medium, and more particularly to an image display medium capable of repeatedly displaying an image.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an electronic paper technique for displaying a desired image on a display substrate using an electric force is known. In such electronic paper technology, for example, a liquid display element or a display element is provided between opposing substrates, such as those roughly using electrophoresis, thermal rewritable, liquid crystal, and electrochromy. Such as a structure in which display liquid dispersed in liquid is sealed, or a structure in which conductive colored toner and white particles are sealed between two display substrates in which a matrix electrode and a charge transport layer are sequentially laminated As described above, there is a configuration in which a powdery display element such as toner is sealed between opposing substrates.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when comparing an image display medium such as a liquid crystal with a liquid display element and an image display medium with a colorant particle as a display element, the liquid crystal is sealed in the display substrate without any gaps. In the case of an image display medium using color material particles, since the color material particles are spherical, a gap of an air layer having a low refractive index is formed between the color material particles and the substrate. For this reason, the image display medium using particles has a problem that the light utilization efficiency is low and the display is dark.
[0004]
In addition, the display-side substrate has a problem that reflection due to reflection occurs as in the case of an image display medium such as liquid crystal.
[0005]
Hereinafter, this point will be described with reference to the drawings.
[0006]
As shown in FIG. 5, light is reflected at the
[0007]
R = {(n 2 −n 1 ) / (n 2 + n 1 )} 2 (1)
Further, the transmittance T is expressed by the following equation from the reflectance R expressed by the above equation (1).
[0008]
T = 1-R (2)
As shown in FIG. 6, for example, when the substance 2 is a substrate-like solid, the incident light 102 is reflected twice at both the front and back interfaces of the substrate. In this case, when the reflectance at each interface (ratio of reflected light to incident light) is R, the reflectance R 0 at the substrate is expressed by the following equation.
[0009]
R 0 = 2R / (1 + R) (3)
Further, the transmittance (ratio of transmitted light to incident light) T 0 at the substrate is expressed by the following equation.
[0010]
T 0 = (1−R) / (1 + R) (4)
As an example, when the substance 1 is air (n 1 = 1.0) and the substance 2 is a substrate made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate: n 2 = 1.6), the reflectance at the interface between the substance 1 and the substance 2 R is about 0.05, and the transmittance T is about 0.95. The reflectance R 0 of the entire substrate is about 0.1, and the transmittance T 0 is about 0.9.
[0011]
As shown in FIG. 7, when the color material particles 108 are spherical particles, an
[0012]
Accordingly, assuming that the color material particles 108 are white particles and there is no scattering on the surface of the color material particles 108 and the light is completely reflected on the surface, the reflectance (the reflected light from the color material particles 108 with respect to the incident light) is assumed. Ratio: light utilization efficiency) R p is expressed by the following equation.
[0013]
R p = T 0 2 (5)
Here, when a PET film (substance 2) is used as the
[0014]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described facts, and provides an image display medium that can prevent light use efficiency of an image display medium from being lowered and can prevent reflection due to reflection. With the goal.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the invention according to claim 1 is characterized in that the refractive index of the pair of substrates is higher than that of the pair of substrates so as to be movable between the pair of substrates by an applied electric field . In an image display medium comprising a plurality of types of particle groups that are sealed together with a low gas and have different colors and charging characteristics , both surfaces of the display-side substrate or the display-side substrate of the pair of substrates An antireflection coating layer is formed on the surface of the opposite substrate on which the particle group is encapsulated .
[0016]
A plurality of types of particle groups having different colors and charging characteristics are enclosed between a pair of substrates together with a gas having a refractive index lower than that of the pair of substrates . By generating an electric field according to image information between the pair of substrates, particles having different colors can be moved between the substrates according to the charged polarity of the particles, and an image can be displayed. In addition, a pair of board | substrate can be comprised with dielectric materials, such as insulating resin in which at least one is either transparent, semi-transparent, and colored transparent, for example. As the particles, in addition to insulating particles, conductive, hole transporting, and electron transporting particles can be used.
[0017]
In such an image display medium, an antireflection coating layer is formed on at least one surface of the pair of substrates. As described in claim 2, the refractive index of the coat layer is set to be less than the refractive index of the substrate on which the coat layer is formed. Thereby, a reflectance can be reduced compared with the case where a coating layer is not provided. Therefore, when a coat layer is provided on the display side of the substrate, reflection due to reflection can be reduced. On the other hand, when the coating layer is provided on the side facing the substrate, the light utilization efficiency described above can be improved, so that it is possible to prevent the display from becoming dark due to the gap portion between the substrate and the particles.
[0018]
It is preferable to use, for example, a fluorine-based low surface energy material for the coating layer. Thereby, the adhesive force of the particle | grains to a board | substrate can be suppressed, and the temporal stability of a display and a repeated display characteristic can be improved. Further, the transmittance may be improved by forming a plurality of coat layers.
[0019]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, there is provided a pair of substrates, transparent electrode layers respectively formed on opposing surfaces of the pair of substrates, and the pair of substrates movably between the pair of substrates by an applied electric field. And a plurality of types of particle groups having different colors and charging characteristics and sealed with a gas having a refractive index lower than that of the pair of substrates, and at least one of the pair of substrates is transparent. An antireflection coating layer is formed on the electrode layer.
[0020]
According to the present invention, the transparent electrode layer is formed on the opposing surfaces of the pair of substrates, and the antireflection coating layer is formed on the transparent electrode layer of at least one of the pair of substrates. As described in claim 4, the refractive index of the coat layer is set to be less than the refractive index of the transparent electrode layer on which the coat layer is formed. Thereby, a reflectance can be reduced compared with the case where a coating layer is not provided. Therefore, since the light use efficiency can be improved, it is possible to prevent the display from becoming dark due to the gap portion between the substrate and the particles.
[0021]
Further, as described in claim 5, a coat layer having a refractive index lower than that of the substrate may be further formed on the surface of the substrate on which the transparent electrode layer is formed on the side opposite to the transparent electrode layer. Thereby, the reflection by reflection can be reduced.

The coating solution was spin-coated on both surfaces of a first substrate (display substrate 14) made of a 200 μm thick PET film previously coated with a silane coupling agent at 500 rpm for 10 seconds and 3000 rpm for 20 seconds.

Next, a 200 μm thick silicone rubber spacer (spacer 18) having an opening of 20 μm × 20 mm is brought into intimate contact with a second substrate (non-display substrate 16) made of a PET film having a thickness of 500 μm. The particles mixed with the particles were applied by a dry screen, and the first substrate was stacked and sealed to prepare an evaluation patch.
