BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an information recording apparatus and an information recording method on an optical recording medium, and more particularly, to an information recording apparatus based on rotation control using the CAV method and information recording on an optical recording medium using rotation control using the CAV method. Regarding the method. The present invention also relates to an optical recording medium, and more particularly to an optical recording medium suitable for recording data by rotation control using a CAV method.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, as a recording medium for recording digital data, an optical recording medium represented by a CD or a DVD is often used. The optical recording medium rotation control method when performing recording / reproduction of such an optical recording medium is roughly divided into a method of rotating at a constant linear velocity (CLV method) and a method of rotating at a constant angular velocity (CAV method). be able to.
[0003]
According to the rotation control using the CLV method, the data transfer rate is constant regardless of whether the recording / reproducing position is the inner peripheral portion or the outer peripheral portion of the optical recording medium. However, there is a disadvantage that the random access speed is slow because the rotational speed of the optical recording medium needs to be changed according to the recording / reproducing position. ing. On the other hand, rotation control using the CAV method has an advantage that the random access speed is fast because the motor control is simple, but has a disadvantage that the data transfer rate is low. Such a drawback can be solved to some extent by increasing the clock frequency as the recording position advances to the outer periphery of the optical recording medium, but even in this case, the data transfer rate in the inner peripheral portion of the optical recording medium is reduced. Is inevitable.
[0004]
Many of the recording / reproducing systems for optical recording media that are currently in practical use adopt the CLV system, which is a result of paying attention to the advantage that the data transfer rate can be maximized.
[0005]
However, in applications where data editing is frequently performed, there is a strong demand for improvement in access speed. In such applications, as described above, rotation control when recording / reproducing an optical recording medium is performed. It is desirable to adopt the CAV method as a method.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In recent years, even when data is recorded on an optical recording medium using the CAV method, a higher data transfer rate is required. To achieve this, it is effective to increase the linear velocity during data recording. For this purpose, it is necessary to increase the clock frequency as a whole.
[0007]
However, as described above, when data is recorded on the optical recording medium using the CAV method, the clock frequency needs to be increased as the recording position advances to the outer periphery of the optical recording medium. However, it is difficult to continuously irradiate a number of pulses of the recording laser beam during a period in which one recording mark is to be formed in recording on the outer peripheral portion of the optical recording medium.
[0008]
On the other hand, if the number of pulses of the recording laser beam used for forming each recording mark is reduced, it is not possible to form a recording mark having a good shape in recording on the inner peripheral portion of the optical recording medium, There arises a problem that signal characteristics deteriorate.
[0009]
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an improved information recording apparatus using the CAV method and an information recording method on an optical recording medium.
[0010]
Another object of the present invention is to provide an information recording apparatus and an information recording method on an optical recording medium capable of forming a recording mark having good signal characteristics.
[0011]
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an optical recording medium suitable for recording data using the CAV method.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An object of the present invention is to record information by forming a plurality of recording marks selected from the group consisting of a plurality of types of recording marks having different lengths on an optical recording medium rotating at a constant angular velocity. When a recording mark having a length of nT is formed on the optical recording medium (where T is a clock period and n is a positive integer), the recording position is greater than a predetermined position. If the recording position is on the outer peripheral side than the predetermined position, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to (n-1). This is achieved by an information recording apparatus characterized by setting (n-2) .
[0013]
According to the present invention, when a recording mark having a length of nT is formed on an optical recording medium (where T is a clock cycle and n is a positive integer), the recording position is more than a predetermined position. When the recording position is on the inner peripheral side, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to (n−1), and when the recording position is on the outer peripheral side with respect to the predetermined position, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to (n -2) Since it is configured to be set to a number, it is possible to form a recording mark having good signal characteristics even when the clock frequency is increased in order to achieve a high data transfer rate. Become.
[0015]
The object of the present invention is also a method of recording information on an optical recording medium rotating at a constant angular velocity, where a recording mark having a length of nT is formed on the optical recording medium (where T is a clock cycle). And n is a positive integer.) When the recording position is on the inner circumference side of the predetermined position, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to (n-1), and the recording position is The recording mark is formed by setting the number of pulses of the recording laser beam to (n−2) when it is on the outer peripheral side from the predetermined position, and this is achieved by an information recording method on an optical recording medium, Is done.
[0016]
The object of the present invention is also an optical recording medium capable of recording information by a plurality of recording marks selected from the group consisting of a plurality of types of recording marks having different lengths, while rotating at a constant angular velocity , When a recording mark having a length of nT is formed and information is recorded (here, T is a clock period and n is a positive integer), the recording position is the inner circumference from a predetermined position. The number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to (n-1), and when the recording position is on the outer peripheral side of the predetermined position, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to (n- 2) It is achieved by an optical recording medium characterized in that information necessary for forming the recording mark is recorded .

In the information recording method according to this embodiment, it is possible to employ a (1,7) RLL modulation method. However, the application of the information recording method according to the present invention is not limited to the case where such a modulation method is used, and is applicable even when another modulation method, for example, an 8-16 modulation method is used. Needless to say. In this specification, the recording laser beam irradiation method for forming the recording mark, that is, the setting of the number of pulses of the recording laser beam, the pulse width of each pulse, the pulse interval, the pulse power, etc. Sometimes called "strategy."
[0030]
Further, the recording condition setting information stored in the
[0031]
Here, in the information recording method according to the present embodiment, at least one type of recording mark ((1, 7) RLL modulation method is employed when a recording mark having a length corresponding to 2T to 8T is employed. In the formation of at least one of the above, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is increased and the pulse width is narrowed as the recording position is the inner circumference of the optical recording medium, and the recording is performed as the recording position is the outer circumference of the optical recording medium. The number of pulses of the laser beam for use is reduced and the pulse width is increased. As an example, when the recording position is an inner circumference from a predetermined position, a recording mark whose pulse number is to be adjusted is formed by n-1 (n is a multiple of T in each recording mark) pulses, When the recording position is on the outer circumference than the predetermined position, a recording mark whose pulse number is to be adjusted is formed by n-2 pulses. Here, “pulse width” refers to a relative width (time) with respect to the clock period (T).
[0032]
Such a recording mark to be adjusted for the number of pulses needs to include at least a recording mark formed by the largest number of pulses, that is, the longest recording mark. For example, when the (1,7) RLL modulation method is employed, it is necessary to set a recording mark having a length corresponding to at least 8T as a pulse number adjustment target. Therefore, as long as the longest recording mark is a pulse number adjustment target, one or more recording marks other than this may be the pulse number adjustment target.
[0033]
Table 1 shows an example of the number of pulses of the recording laser beam used to form each recording mark when the (1, 7) RLL modulation method is employed in the information recording method according to this embodiment.
[0034]
[Table 1]
In the example shown in Table 1, in the formation of a recording mark having a length corresponding to 8T which is the longest mark, the number of pulses when recorded on the outer periphery is reduced from the number of pulses when recorded on the inner periphery. .
[0035]
Table 2 shows another example of the number of pulses of the recording laser beam used for forming each recording mark.
[0036]
[Table 2]
In the example shown in Table 2, the number of pulses when recorded on the outer periphery is reduced from the number of pulses when recorded on the inner periphery in the formation of recording marks having a length corresponding to 6T, 7T, and 8T. .
[0037]
Next, data recording using such a recording strategy will be described in more detail.
[0038]
FIG. 3 is a diagram showing an example of a recording strategy when a recording mark having a length corresponding to 8T is formed on the inner periphery from a predetermined position.
[0039]
As shown in FIG. 3, when a recording mark having a length corresponding to 8T is formed on the inner circumference from a predetermined position, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to “7”. More specifically, during the period from time ts to time te, the set of the combination in which the power of the recording laser beam is once set to Pw and then set to power Pb is repeated seven times. Here, the power of the recording laser beam before the time ts is set to Pe, and the start of the recording laser beam is started at the time ts. Further, the power of the recording laser beam at time te is set to Pe or Pb.

During the Tpulse-1 period, the

FIG. 4 is a diagram showing an example of a recording strategy when a recording mark having a length corresponding to 8T is formed on the outer periphery from a predetermined position.
[0042]
As shown in FIG. 4, when a recording mark having a length corresponding to 8T is formed on the outer periphery from a predetermined position, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is set to “6”. More specifically, during the period from time ts to time te, the set of the combination in which the power of the recording laser beam is once set to Pw and then set to power Pb is repeated six times. Here, the power of the recording laser beam before the time ts is set to Pe, and the start of the recording laser beam is started at the time ts. Further, the power of the recording laser beam at time te is set to Pe or Pb.

[0045]
Thus, in this embodiment, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is adjusted according to the recording position, and the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is increased as the recording position is the inner circumference of the optical recording medium. Since the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is reduced as the position is at the outer periphery of the optical recording medium, even if the clock frequency is increased in order to achieve a high data transfer rate, Recording marks having good signal characteristics can be formed on both the peripheral portion and the outer peripheral portion.
[0046]
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications are possible within the scope of the invention described in the claims, and these are also included in the scope of the present invention. Needless to say.
[0047]
For example, in the above embodiment, the example in which the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is changed in two stages based on the recording position has been described. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the recording laser beam is directed toward the outer peripheral portion. The number of pulses may be set to three or more steps so that the number of pulses decreases stepwise. Also in this case, the recording condition setting information necessary for stepwise decreasing the number of pulses of the recording laser beam toward the outer peripheral portion is stored in the

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the number of pulses of the recording laser beam is increased as the recording position is the inner periphery of the optical recording medium, and the recording laser beam is increased as the recording position is the outer periphery of the optical recording medium. Therefore, even if the clock frequency is increased to achieve a high data transfer rate, it is possible to form a recording mark having good signal characteristics.
