Description

【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a waterproof plug for an electrical connector that is used, for example, in a connector of a wire harness of an automobile and seals an unused terminal receiving hole of a housing.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As shown in FIG. 7, the housing 1 of the conventional electrical connector is provided with a plurality of terminal accommodating holes 2, and the terminal accommodating holes 2 accommodate the connection terminals 4 connecting the electric wires 3 to the rear part. . In the waterproof housing 1, the plug 5 inserted into the electric wire 3 is press-fitted into the terminal accommodation hole 2 in which the connection terminal 4 is accommodated, and the terminal accommodation hole 2 in which the connection terminal 4 is not accommodated. A dedicated plug 6 is press-fitted.
However, when the housing 1 is coupled to the counterpart housing, or when the temperature inside the housing 1 rises, the connection terminal 4 moves relative to the housing 1 when the internal pressure of the sealed terminal receiving hole 2 rises. There is no problem because sufficient measures are taken to prevent the plug from being removed, but the plug 6 may jump out of the terminal accommodating hole 2. For this reason, the plug 6 is integrally provided with a locking member 7 made of synthetic resin, and the locking member 7 is locked to the locking protrusion 8 positioned at the front portion of the housing 1, so that the plug 6 is connected to the terminal receiving hole. Prevents jumping out of 2.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, since the conventional plug 6 requires the locking member 7, there is a problem that the manufacturing cost increases. Further, since the locking member 7 is locked to the locking protrusion 8 at the front portion of the housing 1, if there is a connection terminal to be inserted into the terminal receiving hole 2 in the counterpart housing, the connection terminal is There is also a problem that the housing 1 collides with the locking member 7 and the connection between the housing 1 and the counterpart housing becomes impossible.
[0004]
An object of the present invention is to provide a waterproof plug for an electrical connector that can solve the above-described problems and can reliably seal a terminal accommodating hole without requiring a locking member.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
To achieve the above object, a waterproof plug for an electrical connector according to the present invention is a waterproof plug for an electrical connector that press-fits into a terminal accommodation hole of a housing and seals a rear portion of the terminal accommodation hole. And a suction portion that extends rearward from the sealing portion and is adsorbed to the peripheral wall surface.
[0006]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention will be described in detail based on the embodiment shown in FIGS.
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of one housing 11 of a waterproof connector provided, for example, in a wire harness of an automobile, and a plurality of terminal receiving holes 12 are formed in, for example, two upper and lower rows in the synthetic resin housing 11. Has been. The cross-sectional shape of the rear part of the terminal receiving hole 12 is substantially circular, and a locking arm 14 having a locking part 13 is provided in the front part of the terminal receiving hole 12.
[0007]
The required terminal accommodating hole 12 accommodates a connection terminal 16 connected to the rear portion of the electric wire 15 and is locked by a locking arm 14 so as not to come out of the housing 11. A rubber first plug 17 fitted into the electric wire 15 is press-fitted into these terminal accommodating holes 12, and the rear portion of the terminal accommodating hole 12 is sealed. A second plug 18 made of rubber is press-fitted into the terminal accommodation hole 12 in which the connection terminal 16 is not accommodated, and the rear portion of the terminal accommodation hole 12 is sealed.
[0008]
FIG. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the second plug 18. The second plug 18 has a sealing portion 21 that is in close contact with the peripheral wall surface of the terminal accommodating hole 12 and seals between the peripheral wall surface and the sealing portion 21. And a shaft portion 23 extending rearward from the suction portion 22 and held by a finger or the like. The sealing portion 21 is composed of, for example, two annular projections 21a having a relatively narrow corrugated cross section, and the outer diameter of the annular projection 21a is larger than the inner diameter of the terminal accommodating hole 12.
[0009]
Here, the suction portion 22 is composed of one relatively wide annular protrusion 22a and, for example, four concave suction cups 22b formed on the outer peripheral surface of the annular protrusion 22a. The outer diameter of the annular protrusion 22a is larger than the inner diameter of the terminal accommodating hole 12, and the suction cups 22b are formed at equal intervals in the circumferential direction.
[0010]
As shown in FIG. 3, when the second plug 18 is press-fitted into the terminal accommodating hole 12 of the housing 11, the annular protrusion 21 a of the sealing portion 21 advances while being compressed by the peripheral wall surface of the terminal accommodating hole 12. Then, after the entire sealing portion 21 has entered the terminal accommodation hole 12, the annular protrusion 22 a of the suction portion 22 starts to enter the terminal accommodation hole 12 while being compressed by the peripheral wall surface of the terminal accommodation hole 12. At this time, the outer circumferential surface of the annular protrusion 22a is compressed to the extent that it matches the substantially bottom surface of the suction cup 22b, and the air inside the suction cup 22b is discharged in the direction of the arrow as shown in the partially enlarged view of FIG. Then, when the second plug 18 is further pushed in as shown in FIG. 5, the annular protrusion 22a is restored as shown in FIG. 6, negative pressure is generated inside the suction cup 22b, and the suction portion 22 is in the terminal receiving hole. Adsorption force to the 12 peripheral wall surfaces is generated.
[0011]
Thus, in the embodiment, the contact portion 21 and the suction portion 22 are provided on the second plug 18, so that the terminal accommodation hole 12 can be sealed by the contact portion 21, and the peripheral wall surface of the terminal accommodation hole 12 by the suction portion 23. Can be adsorbed. Therefore, when the housing 11 is coupled to the mating housing or when the temperature inside the terminal receiving hole 12 rises, the second plug 18 can receive the terminal even if the pressure inside the terminal receiving hole 12 rises. It does not jump out of the hole 12. In addition, since a synthetic resin locking member, which has been necessary in the past, is not necessary, the manufacturing cost of the second plug 18 made of only a rubber material is reduced, and the second plug 18 is attached when the housing is fitted. Even if the male connection terminal attached to the counterpart housing enters the accommodated terminal accommodating hole 12, the housings can be reliably coupled.
[0012]
The suction portion 22 of the second plug 18 is composed of an annular projection 22a having an outer diameter larger than the inner diameter of the terminal accommodating hole 12, and a suction cup 22b formed on the outer peripheral surface of the annular projection 22a. The same effect can be achieved even if a suction cup that can be adsorbed on the peripheral wall surface of the terminal receiving hole 12 is provided on an annular protrusion having an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the receiving hole 12.
[0013]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the waterproof plug for an electrical connector according to the present invention can be sealed on the peripheral wall surface of the terminal accommodating hole by the suction cup in addition to sealing the terminal accommodating hole by the sealing portion. Therefore, even when the pressure inside the terminal accommodating hole rises, the terminal accommodating hole can be reliably sealed without protruding from the terminal accommodating hole. Further, since the conventional locking member is not required, the manufacturing cost can be reduced and the connection terminal on the other side can be received in the terminal receiving hole.
