ネットワーク技術の発達にともない、多くの端末がネットワークに接続され、種々の情報を送受信することが一般的になった。ネットワークには、プリンタ、スキャナ、ファクシミリ装置、MFP(Multi Functional Peripheral)などの情報機器も接続され、複数の端末に共有されるようになった。ネットワークに複数の機器が接続されるため、例えば機器の種類や、端末で実行するアプリケーションの種類に応じて複数のプロトコルが存在してしまう。こうしたプロトコル間の差異を軽減する装置がある(特許文献1)。

ネットワークに接続された装置間で送受信される情報のひとつとしてインスタントメッセージがある。インスタントメッセージは、リアルタイムでメッセージのやりとりを行うことが可能であり、通信相手がオンラインの場合にメッセージを送受信できる。しかしながら、インスタントメッセージの送受信を可能にするサービスは複数存在し、第1のインスタントメッセージサービスにおけるクライアントと、第2のインスタントメッセージサービスにおけるクライアントとではインスタントメッセージの送受信を行うことができない。

図1は、実施の形態に係る通信システム10の構成図である。通信システム10は、複数種類のインスタントメッセージサーバ間のインスタントメッセージを中継する装置であり、第1のインスタントメッセージサービスにおける第1クライアントから送信されたインスタントメッセージを、第2のインスタントメッセージサービスにおける第2クライアントに中継するためのシステムである。
