size(X)= max ((n÷ gcd (b,n),(n÷ gcd (d,n))
size(Y)= max ((n÷ gcd (a,n),(n÷ gcd (c,n))

線分AB:ay=b(x−c)+a
線分AC:cy=−d(x−c)+c
線分CD:ay=bx+a(d+1)
線分BD:cy=−d(x−a)+(b+d+1)c
A(c,1),B(a+c,b+1),C(0,d+1),D(a,b+d+1)によって表わされる。
【0032】
すなわち、基本パターンの形状は、ピクセル数指定部12によって指定されたピクセル数n=ad+bcの条件を満たす任意のパラメータa,b,c,dによって指定され、点A(c,1),点B(a+c,b+1),点C(0,d+1),点D(a,b+d+1)の4点からなる四角形として作成されるようになっている。
【0033】
A(c,1),B(a+c,b+1),C(0,d+1),D(a,b+d+1)の4点により形成される四角形を基本パターン領域として指定する(ステップA40)。
【0045】
W=p−q×cosα−r×cosβ ・・・(1)
【0058】
W=p−E×cosα−(p−E)×cosβ ・・・(2)
【0070】
size(X)=max((n÷gcd(b,n),(n÷gcd(d,n))・・・(3)
size(Y)=max((n÷gcd(a,n),(n÷gcd(c,n))・・・(4)
【0074】
Size(X)=max(((72 ÷ gcd(6,72)),(72 ÷ gcd(5,72)))= 72
Size(Y)=max(((72 ÷ gcd(6,72)),(72 ÷ gcd(7,72)))= 72

i=−jd/b
j=−ib/d

size(X)=max((n÷gcd(b,n),(n÷gcd(d,n))
size(Y)=max((n÷gcd(a,n),(n÷gcd(c,n))

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a binarization pattern (dither pattern table) used for binarization processing for converting a multi-valued image (Continuous Tone Image) such as a natural image, a graphic image, or a color character into a binary image.)ofHow to makeAnd as much as printing equipmentAndSecondThe present invention relates to a pattern creation program for valuation.
[0002]
[Prior art]
When outputting a multi-value image such as a natural image, graphic image, or color character obtained from an input device such as a scanner from an output device such as a printer, the multi-value image is used as a color material. In order to express by ON / OFF (ink, toner, etc .; hereinafter, sometimes referred to as dots), it is necessary to perform binarization processing.
[0003]
A dither method is known as one of the binarization methods. In the dither method, the gradation density of a pixel is determined by comparing the value of a specific pixel (target pixel) in a multi-valued image with a preset threshold value, and a binarization pattern prepared in advance is used. This is a method for determining ON / OFF of the dot for the pixel according to the gradation density of the pixel.
[0004]
Conventionally, the creation of a binarization pattern is basically performed based on the intuition and experience of an expert. For example, when creating a binarization pattern, an aggregate for forming one halftone dot (hereinafter referred to as a basic pattern) is created, and error rounding processing is inserted at regular intervals to reduce the error. Or by developing the basic pattern into a huge pattern called a supercell, the shift of halftone dots is reduced.
[0005]
As methods for assisting an operator in creating such a binarization pattern, the methods disclosed in JP-A-10-126618, JP-A-7-146945, and JP-A-10-75361 are known. It has been.
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 10-126618 discloses a halftone dot pattern creation method in which when the halftone dot angle is other than 0 °, an error in the number of cells when a basic small cell is rotated changes the number of dots. A method of correcting by making it be disclosed is disclosed.
[0006]
Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-146945 discloses a method for generating a dither pattern having an arbitrary halftone angle by obtaining a supercell by obtaining a side length and a halftone period using a floating point. Is disclosed.
Furthermore, Japanese Laid-Open Patent Publication No. 10-75361 discloses a technique for realizing a halftone dot close to a designated halftone angle using a supercell, and by treating a plurality of basic patterns as one unit. A technique for reducing the difference in the number of pixels included in a basic pattern forming one halftone dot is also disclosed.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, in the conventional binarization pattern creation method based on the intuition and experience of an expert, during the creation of the binarization pattern, the result of binarization processing using the binarization pattern is predicted. Is impossible. Therefore, the operator must repeat the process of creating the binarization pattern → printing → confirming, and select and use the optimum binarization pattern based on the results of these trial and error. There is a problem that it takes a very long time to create a pattern for value conversion.
[0008]
Further, there is no guarantee that the binarization pattern finally selected using the above-described method is the best one, and there are many operations performed manually by the operator, so that errors and misidentifications occur. There is also a problem that the probability is high. Moreover, since it is necessary to repeat trial and error, there is a problem that resources such as paper and ink used for that purpose are enormous and uneconomical.
[0009]
Further, in the halftone dot pattern generation method disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 10-126618, the number of cells is changed, so the number of pixels allocated to one halftone dot is not uniform. . As a result, there are problems that unevenness occurs in the image and moire occurs at the joint of the supercell.
Further, in the technique disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-146945, the side length and halftone period are obtained using a floating point, so that there is a problem that the final quantization error of processing becomes enormous. is there.
[0010]
Furthermore, in the method disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 10-75361, a super cell is created using a plurality of basic patterns to reduce errors, so that it is necessary to create a very large super cell. As a result, a large amount of memory area is required to read the halftone dot pattern, which raises the problem of an increase in hardware manufacturing costs.
[0011]
By the way, the diffusion type dither method is suitable for printing with a relatively low resolution. In general, when the amount of color material per pixel (for example, the amount of ink) to be fixed on a print medium is very small, the color material existing independently of other color materials is difficult to fix on the print medium. . Therefore, in the diffusion type dither method, when the resolution of the printer is improved as in recent years and the amount of the color material per pixel becomes small, there is a problem that the color material is difficult to be fixed on the print medium.
[0012]
In the dither method, as the gradation density of a pixel increases, a color material is placed (lighted) in order from a pixel close to this center around a specific point, thereby adjusting the gradation of the pixel. Centralized dither to express is known.
Since this concentrated dither has a small dot gain and the color material is stably fixed on the print medium, this concentrated dither method is more effective than the diffused dither method when the amount of the color material placed on each pixel is very small. It is desirable to use Therefore, a method for easily creating a binarization pattern for centralized dither is desired.
[0013]
The present invention was devised in view of such problems, and can easily create a binarization pattern having a desired angle and the number of pixels, and particularly easily create a concentrated binarization pattern. And a binarization pattern creation method for realizing the method, and a method for the binarization pattern creation method capable of easily creating a minimum binarization pattern The binarization pattern created byThe printing device usedThe purpose is to provide.
[0014]

The size size (Y) of the rectangular pattern in the main scanning direction Y is
size (Y) = max ((N ÷ gcd (A, n), (n ÷ gcd (C, n))
So that(Claim 2).
[0016]
Further, the printing apparatus of the present invention (Claim 3) includes a binarization processing unit that binarizes a multi-value image based on a binarization pattern, and the binarization performed by the binarization processing unit. A printing apparatus including an image forming unit that forms an image on a medium based on a binarization result, wherein a binarization pattern is created based on a basic pattern and corresponds to the gradation of a multi-value pixel Then, among the pixels constituting the basic pattern, in order from the pixel closest to the specific point of the basic pattern, and so that the length of the boundary contour line between the lit pixel and the non-lit pixel is minimized,The distance from the specific point of the basic pattern to each pixel constituting this basic pattern alternately for each pixel in the upper half and the lower half of this basic pattern, which is divided into two parts vertically from the horizontal line including the specific point. Is a weighting factor W (W = p−q × cos α−r × cos β; where α and β indicate the coordinates of the pixels forming this basic pattern shape by (x, y) and the coordinates of a specific point. Starting from the pixel with the largest coefficient WIt is characterized in that a continuous halftone dot is generated by lighting.
[0017]
Furthermore, the printing apparatus according to the present invention (claim 4) includes a binarization processing unit that binarizes a multi-valued image based on the binarization pattern, and the binarization performed by the binarization processing unit. A printing apparatus including an image forming unit that forms an image on a medium based on a binarization result, wherein a binarization pattern is created based on a basic pattern A pattern,According to the gradation of the multi-valued pixel, among the pixels constituting the basic pattern, the boundary contour line length between the lit pixel and the non-lit pixel is minimized in order from the pixel closest to the specific point of the basic pattern. Is expressed as (PXDOT, PYDOT), α = x−PXDOT, β = y−PYDOT, and p, q, and r are non-negative real numbers, respectively. Therefore, in the case of the representation, the basic pattern configured to light up in order from the pixel having the largest weighting factor W is selected from the continuous patterns repeatedly arranged in the main scanning direction Y and the sub-scanning direction X of the multivalued image. The size size (x) in the sub-scanning direction X is size (X) = max ((N ÷ gcd (B, n), (n ÷ gcd (D, n)), and the size size (Y) in the main scanning direction Y is size (Y) = max ((N ÷ gcd (A, n), (n ÷ gcd (C, n)) is a partial pattern generated by cutting out a rectangular pattern and extracting from this rectangular pattern a rectangular area having at least one lighting sequence in the basic pattern. It is characterized by that.

[0030]
As shown in FIG. 5 (a), the rectangular ABCD formed by A (7,1), B (13,7), C (0,6) and D (6,12) is the above-mentioned (1) to When the rule (5) is applied, a basic pattern constituted by the arrangement of pixels as shown in FIG. 5B is formed.

[0031]
In order to create a pattern for binarization without unevenness, straight lines formed by connecting two adjacent points among the four points A, B, C, and D in the basic pattern region, and those It is necessary that a straight line formed by connecting points other than these two points be parallel. Therefore, the rectangle ABCD needs to be a parallelogram. As described above, the coordinate values of the four points A, B, C, D satisfying this condition are A (c, 1), B (a + c, b + 1), C (0, d + 1), D (a, b + d + 1). Is represented by

W = p−q × cos α−r × cos β (1)
Here, α and β indicate the coordinates of the pixel forming the basic pattern shape by (x, y), and the coordinates of the point (specific point) serving as the center or the center of gravity of the basic pattern shape by (PXDOT, PYDOT). In this case, α = x−PXDOT and β = y−PYDOT.
[0046]
In addition, p, q, and r are values (coefficients) set as appropriate, and are real numbers that are not negative numbers. q and r are coefficients for defining the shape of the halftone dot to be formed. When q becomes large, the halftone dot formed has an elliptical shape that is long in the x direction, and is formed when r becomes large. The halftone dot has an elliptical shape that is long in the y direction. When q = r, the halftone dot has a circular shape. p is a number that is set as appropriate so that the calculation result of Expression (1) does not become negative, and is for facilitating handling (for example, sorting) of the calculated weight (W).

For example, when the parameters (a, b, c, d) = (6, 6, 7, 5) for forming the basic pattern, the sub-scanning direction size size (X) and the sub-scanning direction size size ( Y) is obtained as follows from the above-described equations (3) and (4).
[0074]
Size (X) = max (((72 ÷ gcd (6,72)), (72 ÷ gcd (5,72))) = 72
Size (Y) = max (((72 ÷ gcd (6,72)), (72 ÷ gcd (7,72))) = 72

[0075]
Here, it is possible to fill the plane by repeatedly arranging the rectangular patterns specified by the equations (3) and (4) in the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction, as shown in FIG. , (B). FIG. 16A is a diagram for explaining a basic pattern used for proving a rectangular pattern, and FIG. 16B is a diagram showing an example in which the basic pattern is developed on a plane.
[0076]
A basic pattern as shown in FIG. 16A is defined with four parameters for determining the boundary of the basic pattern as a, b, c, d, and n as the number of dots included in the basic pattern.
In addition, in FIG. 16A, the processing of the grid points on the boundary line includes that the points on the lower side and the left side are included in the basic pattern, and the points on the upper side and the right side are not included in the basic pattern. To do. In the example shown in FIG. 16B, a = 5, b = 2, c = 2, d = 4, and n = 24.
[0077]
Here, the x and y coordinates of the lattice point indicated by (i, j) are expressed by the following equations. x coordinate: ia-jc
y coordinate: ib + jd
Therefore, in order to cover the entire plane with a rectangular pattern, the minimum value of (ia−jc) when y coordinate (ib + jd) = 0 and the value when x coordinate (ia−jc) = 0 ( It is necessary to obtain the minimum value of ib + jd).

So,
[0080]
[Equation 3]
Then,
[0081]
[Expression 4]

[0082]
However, since i and j must both be integers, gcd (jd, b) = b and gcd (ib, d) = d must be satisfied.
Because ib-jd = 0,
i = -jd / b
i is an integer,
jd> b and jd divided by b is 0
Therefore, the greatest common divisor between jd and b must be b.
[0083]
Similarly, from ib + jd = 0
j = -ib / d
j is an integer (regardless of positive / negative),
ib> d and the remainder obtained by dividing ib by d is 0.
Therefore, the greatest common divisor between ib and d is d.
Considering these things, n / b and n / d are both integers,

Since the same applies to the y direction, it is a binarization pattern that realizes the same binarization as the basic pattern specified by the parameters (a, b, c, d), and has the smallest rectangular shape. The size (number of pixels) in the sub-scanning direction of the pattern is

FIG. 18 is a diagram illustrating an example of a partial pattern, and illustrates an example where Y = n = 17 and i = 1.

For example, in the case of the partial pattern shown in FIG. 18 (3, 11, 6, 4,..., 2, 1 from the top), by referencing this partial pattern while shifting by 14 (for example, the next line is 7, 10, 2,..., 14, 8, 5) Binarization processing can be performed.
The example shown in FIG. 18 is for the case where Y = n. However, the present invention is not limited to this. Y may be a numerical value other than n, and does not depart from the spirit of the present invention. Various modifications can be made.

The printing apparatus forms an image on a medium (paper or the like) based on the binarization pattern formed as described above, and is realized by a printer such as an ink jet printer or a laser printer. .
In this printing apparatus, for example, an ink jet mechanism, a laser diode unit, a photosensitive drum, and the like function as an image forming unit that forms an image on a medium.
[0100]
Further, a processor or the like provided in the printing apparatus may function as a binarization processing unit that performs binarization based on the binarization pattern. In the printing system, the printing apparatus (printer) A connected computer may function as the binarization processing unit, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
[0101]
In these printing apparatuses or printing systems, the binarization processing unit binarizes the multi-valued image based on the binarization pattern created as described above, thereby turning on the color material on the medium. / OFF is determined.
Then, an image is formed by the image forming unit placing a color material on the medium based on the result of the binarization process.

Furthermore, the binarization pattern created by the binarization pattern creation method of the present invention is a partial pattern having the characteristics of a rectangular pattern, and this partial pattern has a size Y in the main scanning direction and sub-scanning. This is a rectangular area composed of Y × i pixels of the direction size i, the main scanning direction size Y is the main scanning direction size of the rectangular pattern given as a specific size, and the sub-scanning direction size i is , Each region is given all kinds of lighting order values (numerical values indicating the lighting order determined for all the pixels constituting the basic pattern in the lighting order determination step F20) included in one basic pattern. Since it is the minimum size (number of pixels) in the sub-scanning direction necessary for including pixels, the size of the binarization pattern can be reduced. It is possible to reduce the area for storage of a memory area and binarization pattern required for binarization, thereby improving the processing speed can reduce the manufacturing cost of the other hardware.
[0108]
Further, the shape of the basic pattern is designated by an arbitrary parameter a, b, c, d (where a, b, c, d are integers) that satisfy the condition of the designated number of pixels n = ad + bc, point A (C, 1), point B (a + c, b + 1),pointC (0, d + 1),pointCreate as a quadrangle consisting of four points D (a, b + d + 1), and select the created quadrangle having an angle close to the angle of the specified binarization pattern as the basic pattern. Thus, the shape of the basic pattern can be easily created, and thereby the binarization pattern can be easily created.
[0109]
Furthermore, the lighting order can be easily set by determining the lighting order based on the weight set by calculation for each pixel according to the distance between the pixel and the specific point in the basic pattern. Also, the binarization pattern can be easily created.
In addition, the rectangular pattern has a size size (x) in the sub-scanning direction X of the rectangular pattern.
size (X) = max ((n ÷ gcd (b, n), (n ÷ gcd (d, n)))
And the size size (Y) in the main scanning direction Y of the rectangular pattern is
size (Y) = max ((n ÷ gcd (a, n), (n ÷ gcd (c, n))
By creating so that the rectangular pattern can be obtained, a rectangular pattern can be easily created, and a binarization pattern can also be easily created.
[0110]
Further, in a printing system or printing apparatus (printer or the like) that performs binarization based on the binarization pattern as described above, high-quality printing can be performed without noticeable dot deviation or moire.
(B) Other
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
[0111]
For example, in the above-described embodiment, the basic pattern is rotated by −θ, and the lighting order is set for the rotated basic pattern. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the basic pattern is not rotated. Direct lighting order may be set.

As described in detail above, the binarization pattern creation method of the present invention,Printing deviceThe binarization pattern creation program has the following effects or advantages.
(1) A rectangular pattern that functions as a binarization pattern based on the basic pattern by creating the basic pattern shape of the binarization pattern by calculation, determining the lighting order of the pixels constituting the basic pattern Since the binarization pattern is created by creating the binarization pattern, the binarization pattern can be easily created (
[0158]
(2) When creating the shape of the basic pattern, the angle of the binarization pattern is specified, the number of pixels constituting the basic pattern is specified, and the basic pattern shape is determined based on the specified angle and the number of pixels. Since it is created by calculation, a basic pattern shape having a desired angle and the number of pixels can be easily created.1, Claim 5).
[0159]
(3) When determining the lighting order, it is possible to easily create a centralized binarization pattern by determining the lighting order of the pixels based on the distance between the pixel and a specific point in the basic pattern. it can.
(4) When determining the lighting order, by determining the lighting order of the pixels based on the distance between the pixel and a specific point in the basic pattern and a certain coefficient related to the distance, With the angle maintained, the dot pattern can be smoothly changed from a circular shape to an elliptical shape, and a pattern for binarization that can make dot misalignment and moire inconspicuous can be created with less man-hours. can do.
[0160]
(5) When determining the lighting order, the lighting order is determined in order from the pixel closest to the specific point of the basic pattern so that the length of the boundary contour line between the lighting pixel and the non-lighting pixel is minimized. As a result, the dot gain is reduced and the color material paste is stabilized, so that the output quality is improved.
(6) When creating a rectangular pattern, a rectangular pattern of a specific size is cut out as a binarization pattern from a continuous pattern formed by repeatedly arranging basic patterns in the main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction of an image. Thus, a rectangular binarization pattern can be easily created.
[0161]
(7) When creating a rectangular pattern, a partial pattern having features of the rectangular pattern is cut out from the rectangular pattern, and the rectangular pattern is represented by the partial pattern, thereby reducing the size of the binarization pattern. Therefore, the memory area required for binarization and the area for storing the binarization pattern can be reduced, the processing speed can be improved, and the hardware manufacturing cost can be reduced. (Claim 4).
[0162]
(8) The partial pattern is a rectangular area composed of Y × i pixels having the main scanning direction size Y and the sub-scanning direction size i, and the main scanning direction size Y is a rectangular size given as a specific size. The size of the shape pattern is the main scanning direction size, and the sub-scanning direction size i is for all types of lighting sequence values included in one basic pattern (for all pixels constituting the basic pattern in the lighting sequence determination step). Since this is the minimum size (number of pixels) in the sub-scanning direction necessary for including each pixel assigned a numerical value indicating the determined lighting order), the size of the binarization pattern can be reduced. Therefore, the memory area required for developing the binarization pattern during binarization processing and the area for storing the binarization pattern can be reduced. It is possible to reduce the manufacturing cost of the other hardware can improve speed.
[0163]
(9) A point in which the shape of the basic pattern is designated by arbitrary parameters a, b, c, d (where a, b, c, d are integers) that satisfy the condition of the designated number of pixels n = ad + bc A (c, 1), point B (a + c, b + 1),pointC (0, d + 1),pointCreate as a quadrangle consisting of four points D (a, b + d + 1), and select the created quadrangle having an angle close to the angle of the specified binarization pattern as the basic pattern. Thus, the shape of the basic pattern can be easily created, and thereby the binarization pattern can be easily created.(
[0164]
(10) The lighting order can be easily set by determining the lighting order based on the weight set by calculation for each pixel according to the distance between the pixel and the specific point in the basic pattern. Thus, a binarization pattern can be easily created.
(11) When the rectangular pattern has a size size (x) in the sub-scanning direction X of the rectangular pattern,
size (X) = max ((n ÷ gcd (b, n), (n ÷ gcd (d, n)))
And the size size (Y) in the main scanning direction Y of the rectangular pattern is
size (Y) = max ((n ÷ gcd (a, n), (n ÷ gcd (c, n))
By creating so that a rectangular pattern can be obtained, a rectangular pattern can be easily created, and thereby a binarization pattern can be easily created(Claim 2).
[0165]
(12) In a printing system or printing apparatus that performs binarization based on the binarization pattern as described above, it is possible to perform high-quality printing in which dot deviation and moire are not noticeable.
