Description
【0001】
これについては、TR45.5.2.3.SIG/98.11.17.07,TR45.5.2.3.SIG/98.11.17.08およびTR45.5.2.3.SIG/98.11.18.06に記載されている。
【0004】
(System Parameters Message)
(Access Parameters Message)
(Neighbor List Message)
(CDMA Channel List Message)
(Extended System Parameters Message)
(Global Service Redirection Message)
(Extended Neighbor List Message)
(General Neighbor List Message)
(System Parameters Message)
(Neighbor List Message)
(CDMA Channel List Message)
(Extended System Parameters Message)
(Global Service Redirection Message)
(Extended Neighbor List Message)
受信した各コンフィギュレーション・メッセージについて、移動局はコンフィギュレーション・メッセージ内に含まれるコンフィギュレーション・メッセージ・シーケンス番号(SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs,NGHBR_LIST_MSG_SEQs,EXT_NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs,GEN_NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs,CHAN_LIST_MSG_SEQs,EXT_SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQsまたはGLOB_SERV_REDIR_MSG_SEQs)を格納する。
・ 全ての格納済みコンフィギュレーション・メッセージ・シーケンス番号(SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs,NGHBR_LIST_MSG_SEQs,EXT_NGHBR_LIST_MSG_SEQs,CHAN_LIST_MSG_SEQs,EXT_SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs,GEN_NGHBR_LIST_MSG_SEQsおよびGLOB_SERV_REDIR_MSG_SEQs)がCONFIG_MSG_SEQsに等しい;
・ CONFIG_MSG_SEQsがNULLに等しくない;および

[Industrial application fields]
The present invention relates generally to communication systems, and more particularly to a method for transmitting a quick paging channel at different power levels at a base station.
[0002]
[Prior art]
To ensure that the stored configuration parameter values are always up-to-date after an idle handoff, the current cdma2000 procedure is TR45.5.2.3. The mobile station always wakes up on the normal paging channel (PCH) after idle handoff, as described in section 2.6.2.1.4.2 of SIG / 98.12.01.02. up) is required. Experiments with current CDMA systems have shown that idle handoffs are usually frequent in areas with multiple pilots. Since the Quick Paging Channel (QPCH) is bypassed after idle handoff, there is no standby time improvement due to QPCH in the first paging channel slot after idle handoff.
[0003]
For mobile stations that monitor the QPCH paging indicator bit, to ensure that the stored configuration parameters are up-to-date, the base station must update all QPCH paging requests after updating the overhead configuration information. The indicator bit is set “on” for a time that is a function of the maximum slot cycle index. For example, in current systems, the base station sets all QPCH paging indicator bits “on” for 1.28 seconds when the maximum slot cycle index is set to zero. About this, TR45.5.2.3. SIG / 98.11.17.07, TR45.5.2.3. SIG / 98.11.17.08 and TR45.5.2.3. SIG / 98.11.18.06.
[0004]
However, if the mobile station is monitoring another base station when the base station configuration information changes and the mobile station then performs an idle handoff to this base station, the QPCH paging indicator bit is monitored. Even then, the mobile station does not update its stored configuration parameter value.
[0005]
Therefore, an improved method for ensuring the latest stored configuration parameter values after idle handoff is needed. In other words, when idle handoff is performed, it is necessary to reliably transmit the configuration parameters to the mobile station.
[0006]
The present invention provides a method for transmitting a quick paging channel at different power levels at a base station. The quick paging channel includes a paging indicator and a configuration change indicator. The method comprises transmitting a paging indicator at a first power level and transmitting a configuration change indicator at a second power level that is different from the first power level. Preferably, the second power level is higher than the first power level. In other words, by transmitting the configuration change indicator at a higher power level than the paging indicator, the configuration change indicator can be reliably transmitted to the mobile station even in an area where idle handoff frequently occurs, and mobile It becomes possible to reduce the power consumption of the station.
[0007]
In accordance with the standard TIA / EIA-95-B paging channel monitoring procedure, the mobile station checks the CONFIG_MSG_SEQ field in the General Page Message for the latest configuration parameter value for itself. Is preferably determined. It should be understood that the term “page” refers to a paging message, such as a generic page message, or any other message addressed to the mobile station. Alternatively, the mobile station determines whether its configuration parameter value is up-to-date by examining in another message when it wakes up in its own paging channel slot. If CONFIG_MSG_SEQ does not match the stored value of the mobile station, the mobile station remains in a wake state for a longer time to receive the new configuration parameter value.
[0008]
The paging channel is preferably divided into 80 ms slots called paging channel slots. Paging and control messages for mobile stations operating in non-slot mode can be received on any paging channel slot, so in non-slot mode of operation, the mobile station needs to monitor all slots . A mobile station operating in non-slot mode must always monitor the paging channel.
[0009]
During slot mode operation, the mobile station preferably ensures that its stored configuration parameter values are up-to-date, as shown below. Preferably, the mobile station does not operate in slot mode if its configuration parameters are not up-to-date.
[0010]
Preferably, the overhead message on the paging channel is:
・ System Parameters Message
・ Access Parameters Message
Neighbor list message
・ CDMA Channel List Message
・ Extended System Parameters Message
・ Global Service Redirection Message
・ Extended Neighbor List Message
・ General Neighbor List Message
Response to Overhead Information Operation is preferably performed every time the mobile station receives an overhead message. The mobile station updates the internally stored information from the data field of the received message. Configuration parameters and access parameters are received in configuration messages and access parameter messages. Preferably, the configuration message is as follows.
・ System Parameters Message
Neighbor list message
・ CDMA Channel List Message
・ Extended System Parameters Message
・ Global Service Redirection Message
・ Extended Neighbor List Message
・ General Neighbor List Message Each paging
Related to the set of configuration messages sent on the channel is the configuration message sequence number (CONFIG_MSG_SEQ). As the contents of one or more configuration messages change, the configuration message sequence number is preferably incremented. For each configuration message received, the mobile station configuration message sequence number contained in the configuration message store (SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs, NGHBR_LIST_MSG_SEQs, EXT_NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs, GEN_NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs, CHAN_LIST_MSG_SEQs, EXT_SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs or GLOB_SERV_REDIR_MSG_SEQs) a. The mobile station also stores the most recently received configuration message sequence number (CONFIG_MSG_SEQ) included in any message. The mobile station examines the stored value of the configuration message sequence number to determine if the configuration parameters stored by the mobile station are up-to-date.
[0011]
The configuration message sequence number is also included in the general page message. This allows the mobile station to determine whether the stored configuration parameters are up-to-date without waiting for a configuration message. Access parameter messages are independently sequence numbered by the ACC_MSG_SEQ field. Preferably, the mobile station stores the most recently received access parameter message sequence numbers (ACC_MSG_SEQs).
[0012]
Preferably, the mobile station stores configuration parameters from the paging channel that it has recently monitored. When starting to monitor the paging channel that the mobile station has recently monitored, the mobile station can determine whether the stored parameters are up-to-date by examining the CONFIG_MSG_SEQs in the configuration message or general page message. The mobile station uses a special value NULL stored in place of the sequence number for messages that have not been received or are marked as not up-to-date. [0014]
TR45.5 employs a quick paging channel (QPCH) to increase mobile station battery life in the next version of TIA / EIA-95-B. This next version is generally known as cdma2000. The QPCH and paging channel (PCH) in the cdma2000 standard are channels broadcast on a common frequency spectrum of a CDMA communication system. The pilot channel is also broadcast. As is well known, a channel can be associated with Walsh codes or other unique spreading codes. QPCH reduces the time that a mobile station is in a wake state. As used herein, a mobile station is in a wake state when it is consuming power from a power source to demodulate a channel using a radio frequency receiver and demodulation hardware. Also, in this specification, the term “wake up” is used to mean that the hardware necessary to demodulate the paging signal is activated or that power is applied to this hardware. It is done. Similarly, the terms “sleep” and “go to sleep” refer to activating and deactivating hardware in a mobile station to conserve power.
[0015]
Error correction coding or interleaving is not used for the paging indicator bits. Thus, the time to wake up to receive bits is small compared to the time to wake up to receive a normal paging channel slot. The paging indicator bit informs the mobile station whether it should wake up in its own paging channel slot in order to receive the page. On-off keying is used by the base station to transmit the QPCH bit. For example, for one value, the base station utilizes a specific spreading code to transmit a spread spectrum signal at a given power level during a bit time period, and for the other value, the base station No power is transmitted during a bit time period using a spreading code.
[0016]
When a mobile station receives a QPCH bit, there are preferably three possibilities: “ON”, “OFF” or “not certain”. “On” means that the base station has clearly transmitted a bit. “Off” means that the base station has clearly not transmitted any bits. “Uncertain” means that the mobile station is uncertain whether the base station has transmitted a bit. If the mobile station determines that the received power is sufficiently strong for the QPCH bit time period and spreading code, the mobile station can determine that the base station has transmitted bits. If the mobile station determines that the pilot power is sufficiently strong for the QPCH bit time period and that there is little received power for the QPCH bit time period and spreading code, the mobile station can determine that the base station did not transmit the bits. . If the mobile station determines that the pilot power is not strong enough for the QPCH bit time period, the mobile station cannot determine whether the base station has transmitted bits.
[0017]
The present invention can be better understood with reference to FIGS. FIG. 1 shows a
[0018]
FIG. 2 shows an example of the bit position of a quick paging channel
[0019]
For mobile stations that monitor QPCH
[0020]
When the mobile station is in idle mode and monitoring the paging channel or the quick paging channel, the mobile station measures the strength of pilot signals of neighboring base stations. If the mobile station determines that the nearby pilot signal is sufficiently stronger than the pilot signal associated with the base station on which the paging channel or quick paging channel is being monitored, the mobile station performs a handoff to the nearby base station, This neighboring base station's paging channel and quick paging channel are monitored. This type of handoff is called an idle handoff.
[0021]
According to the TIA / EIA-95-B and the proposed cdma2000 standard, a mobile station takes 10 minutes to remember stored configuration parameter values when performing a cell-to-cell idle handoff. Has a timer. For example, if a mobile station receives a configuration parameter value from cell A, performs idle handoff to cell B, and performs idle handoff to cell A again after 5 minutes, the mobile station stores its own station. Retrieves the completed configuration parameter value. If the sequence number, such as CONFIG_MSG_SEQ in the configuration message or general page message, matches the stored value of the cell, the mobile station can receive its configuration parameter value again to There is no need to waste other power sources. According to TIA / EIA-95-B, the mobile station receives a paging channel where a configuration parameter message is transmitted in a certain period of time until all configuration parameters are up to date. As a result, the configuration parameter value of the own station is updated. The cdma2000 mobile station also updates the configuration parameters by receiving the paging channel. Another possibility is to receive a special broadcast channel (BCCH) where a configuration parameter message is sent in a certain period of time until all configuration parameters are up-to-date. Update configuration parameters. BCCH is a channel similar to PCH, and is spread by a similar method, and is generally broadcast in the same frequency spectrum.
[0022]
When the base station updates its configuration parameter value, it sets all QPCH paging indicator bits to “on” in less than 10 minutes, so the mobile station stores overhead information. When an idle handoff is performed again for a given cell, the mobile station needs to wake up in one paging channel slot to ensure that its own overhead information is up-to-date. This time ranges from 20 ms to 160 ms. Waking up in such a relatively long time invalidates the purpose of QPCH. Idle handoff occurs very frequently in the soft handoff region between cells and wastes battery or other power source. On the other hand, if the mobile station starts monitoring the quick paging bit immediately after an idle handoff without checking for configuration changes, the result is a lost mobile station, i.e. a mobile that does not respond when paged. Become a station. For example, if the channel configuration changes, the mobile station may monitor the wrong channel. Also, if the power level of the QPCH decreases, the mobile station may not respond even if it is paged. It is important to update the mobile station quickly when the overhead information changes.
[0023]
Preferably, the mobile station can determine immediately after an idle handoff whether the configuration information has changed without waking up in the paging channel slot.
[0024]
As shown in FIG. 3, in the preferred embodiment of the present invention, one

When the mobile station determines that it needs to perform an idle handoff to the new base station and the valid configuration parameter timer for the new base station expires, the mobile station may use the paging indicator bit or configuration By not waking up to receive the change indicator bit, the battery or other power source should be saved. This applies when there is no BCCH and only PCH. If BCCH is configured in this case, the mobile station preferably wakes up on the BCCH instead of wakes up on the configuration change indicator. Alternatively, the mobile station may receive a paging indicator bit to determine whether to wake up with PCH.

[0032]
As determined in
[0033]
If the mobile station determines that the second configuration change indicator bit is set to “off” (446), the mobile station preferably goes to sleep (447) and proceeds to step 450. If the mobile station determines that the second configuration change indicator bit is not set to “OFF” (446), the mobile station configures the configuration by combining the results of the first two configuration change indicator bits. It is determined whether the change bit is “off”. After combining the two configuration change indicator bits, if the mobile station believes that there is no configuration change, the mobile station preferably goes to sleep and proceeds to step 450. If the mobile station determines that the configuration change indicator bit is not “off” (448), the mobile station preferably maintains a wake state until another configuration change bit (449), re-evaluates, and so on. Alternatively, the mobile station may return to the sleep state even if it is not sure that there has been a configuration change. If the mobile station receives a configuration change indicator bit at any time and determines that it is “on”, the mobile station needs to maintain a wake state to receive another configuration change indicator bit There is no. After receiving the configuration change indicator bit and, if necessary, the paging indicator bit, the mobile station proceeds to step 450.
[0034]
Next, the mobile station determines if there is no page in the slot and if there is no configuration change (450). If the result of
[0035]
When the base station updates its configuration parameter value information, the base station preferably sets all QPCH paging indicator bits to “on” for a time that is a function of the maximum slot cycle index. To do. If the change in configuration parameter value includes a change in QPCH power level, the power level of the paging indicator bit during this time period is set to the old QPCH power level. This is particularly important to ensure that the mobile station monitoring the QPCH paging indicator wakes up to receive new parameters when the QPCH power is reduced. If the reduced power level is used immediately, it may be “lost” because the mobile station is not aware of the configuration change. After this time period, the new power level of the paging indicator bit is available.
[0036]
Similarly, when the base station updates its own configuration parameter value information, all the configuration change indicator bits are changed by the base station for a predetermined time, preferably only 10 minutes after changing the configuration information. Set to “On”. If the change in configuration parameter value includes a change in QPCH power level, the power level of the configuration change indicator bit during this time period is set to the old QPCH power level. This is particularly important to ensure that the mobile station monitoring the QPCH configuration change indicator wakes up to receive the new parameters after idle handoff when the power of the QPCH is reduced. If the reduced power level is used immediately, it may be “lost” because the mobile station is not aware of the configuration change. After this time period, the new power level of the configuration change indicator bit is preferably used.

If the mobile station supports quick paging channel operation, the mobile station monitors the paging channel in a specific slot assigned to it, as described below. Otherwise, the mobile station monitors the paging channel in each of its assigned slots. For its own assigned slot, the mobile station starts monitoring the paging channel in time to receive the first bit of the slot. If the mobile station is not configured to receive the broadcast address, the mobile station continues to monitor the paging channel until a predetermined condition is met.
[0046]
The quick paging channel is preferably divided into 80 ms slots called quick paging channel slots. The quick paging channel protocol schedules transmission of a paging indicator for the mobile station in a quick paging channel slot assigned to the mobile station. The quick paging channel protocol also preferably schedules transmission of configuration change indicators for mobile stations in the quick paging channel slot.
[0047]
FIG. 5 shows a quick paging channel timeline according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. If the mobile station is operating in slot mode and supports a quick paging channel, the mobile station monitors the paging indicator on the quick paging channel as follows. The quick

If the mobile station is operating in slot mode and supports a quick paging channel, the mobile station may select one or more when performing an idle handoff to the base station on which the paging channel was recently monitored. The above configuration change indicator is monitored. The configuration change indicator is preferably scheduled every 10 ms, preferably on the quick paging channel.

Where t is the system time in frames, PGSLOT is preferably selected in the range of 0-2047, T is the slot cycle length, and preferably is 1.28 seconds, so that It is.
T = 2i
I is a slot cycle index.
[0052]
To determine the position of the mobile station's two assigned paging indicators relative to the start of the mobile station's assigned quick
[0053]
Preferably, the mobile station determines the bit position of its own first assigned paging indicator for the first QPCH bit in
1 + └ (R1) / (N / 4) ┘ + R1Where N is R1Is the value from FIG.
[0054]
Preferably, the mobile station determines the bit position of its second assigned paging indicator for the first QPCH bit in the
1 + └ (R2) / (N / 4) ┘ + R2
Where N is R2Is the value from FIG.
[0055]
The preferred method of the present invention is performed as follows. The mobile station receives its first assigned paging indicator. If the mobile station does not detect that this first assigned paging indicator is “off”, the mobile station receives a second paging indicator. If the mobile station does not detect that this second assigned paging indicator is “off”, the mobile station will assign its own assigned quick paging channel immediately after its assigned quick paging channel slot. Channel slots are preferably received.
[0056]
The mobile station supports a quick paging channel, the new base station supports the quick paging channel, the mobile station is not monitoring the paging channel, and the mobile station is enabled on the new paging channel If the elapsed time since the last message was received is less than 600 seconds, the mobile station operating in slot mode before performing an idle handoff to the base station on which the paging channel was recently monitored Preferably monitors one or more configuration change indicators on the quick paging channel assigned for the new base station.
[0057]
Preferably, the mobile station determines the bit position of its configuration change indicator bit for the first QPCH bit in the QPCH slot according to the following equation:
((N / 4) +1) × P
Where N is R1And R2Is the value from FIG. 6 used to determine, and P is preferably in the range of 0-7.
[0058]
If the mobile station monitors the configuration change indicator and determines that it is set to “off”, the mobile station prevents entry into non-slot mode after an idle handoff.
[0059]
In performing idle handoff, if the mobile station supports quick paging channel operation and the mobile station determines that the QPCH configuration change indicator for the new QPCH is set to “off”; and If the elapsed time is less than 600 seconds since the last received valid message on the new paging channel, the mobile station preferably does not start operating in non-slot mode after an idle handoff. Otherwise, the mobile station operates in non-slot mode until it receives at least one valid configuration message or general page message on the new paging channel.
[0060]
After performing an idle handoff, the mobile station preferably discards all outstanding messages received on the old paging channel.
[0061]
When the mobile station enters non-slot mode, the mobile station sets CONFIG_MSG_SEQs to NULL, otherwise the mobile station sets CONFIG_MSG_SEQs to the stored information of the new paging channel. If when the mobile station has not stored configuration parameters for the new Paging Channel or the stored information, is not up to date, the mobile station sets SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs, NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs, EXT_NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs, GEN_NGHBR_LST_MSG_SEQs, CHAN_LST_MSG_SEQs, the EXT_SYS_PAR_MSG_SEQs and GLOB_SERV_REDIR_MSG_SEQs to NULL.
[0062]
Certain procedures require even distribution of mobile stations among N resources. The following function returns an integer using the mobile station's IMSI or ESN, the number of resources N, and the modifier DECORR as arguments. A modifier functions to decorrelate values obtained for different applications from the same mobile station.
[0063]
If a hash function is used to determine Access Channel PN Randomization, HASH_KEY must be equal to the mobile station ESN. Otherwise, HASH_KEY is preferably
[0064]
It is defined as follows.
• Word L is bits 0-15 of HASH_KEY.
[0065]
-Word H is bits 16-31 of HASH_KEY.
Here,

[Equation 3]
[0071]
Preferably, the mobile station, as shown in FIG. 6, depends on the range N and modifiers DECORR, DECORR.1And DECORR2Select. In this table, HASH_KEY [0. . . 11] indicates the 12 least significant bits of HASH_KEY.
[0072]
The base station can support a quick paging channel. If the quick paging channel is supported, the base station transmits a paging indicator to the mobile station at the assigned location in the assigned quick paging channel slot. The base station sets the paging indicator “on” if the mobile station receives a paging channel in a paging channel slot following its assigned quick paging channel slot.
[0073]
If the base station operates on a quick paging channel, after any configuration parameter value has been updated, the base station will have a time period of T units of 1.28 seconds in each quick paging channel slot. Set all paging indicators to on. However,

[0076]
If the base station operates on a quick paging channel, after any configuration parameter values have been updated, the base station will have all configuration for each quick paging channel slot for a time period of 600 seconds. Set the change indicator to “on”. At all other times, the base station sets the all configuration change indicator to “off”.
[0077]
To determine the mobile station's assigned quick paging channel, the base station enters the following inputs: IMSI_S based on the IMSI registered by the mobile station and the base station on the mobile station's assigned CDMA channel The hash function defined in FIG. 6 is preferably utilized along with the number of quick paging channels to transmit.
[0078]
In the preferred embodiment, the mobile station's assigned quick paging channel slots are the following slots:
[0079]
[Equation 5]
[0080]
Where t is the system time in frames, PGSLOT is preferably selected within the range of 0-2047 by using the hash function defined in FIG. 6, T is the slot cycle length, preferably Is a unit of 1.28 seconds so that
T = 2i
I is a slot cycle index.
[0081]
To determine the mobile station's assigned paging indicator, the base station preferably utilizes the same equation used by the mobile station. To determine the location of the configuration change indicator, the base station preferably utilizes the same formula used by the mobile station.
