Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a safety razor, and more particularly, to a safety razor of the type including a handle and a blade assembly attached to the handle by a mounting structure that is movable relative to the handle. In the embodiment of the invention described herein, the blade assembly comprises at least one extended blade having a sharp edge located between the guard portion and the cap surface, and a frame for supporting these (these) blades. Contains. However, the present invention is also applicable to razors with perforated metal flakes having sharp edges rather than extended blades.
Various proposals have been made for attaching the blade assembly to the handle so that the movement of the blade assembly can be allowed to keep the skin surface and the skin contact portion in shave in conformity. For example, many razors currently on the market have a blade assembly that can rotate about an extension axis. In our prior patent application GB-A-2116470, a razor is described in which the blade assembly is also rotatable about a transverse axis. However, according to the known structure, the ability of the blade assembly to follow the contour of the skin is limited by the limited degree of freedom of the blade assembly's permissible operation with respect to the handle.
According to the present invention, the safety razor as described at the beginning includes a plurality of spring concern devices arranged to support the blade assembly at positions separated from each other, and the arrangement of these spring suspensions is as described above. The blade assembly has several degrees of freedom including pivoting about the extension axis, pivoting about the transverse axis, and a downward translational motion substantially perpendicular to the plane defined by the extension and transverse axes. A mounting structure designed to be movable with respect to the handle at a high degree provides a safety razor in which the blade assembly is mounted to the handle.
The additional freedom of movement made possible by the independent spring suspension mechanism allows a closer follow of the blade assembly to the contour of the skin area to be shaved. In particular, the extending pivot axis and the transverse pivot axis are not fixed in predetermined positions and are variably positioned thanks to independent spring suspension mechanisms. When the blade assembly is connected to one or more extension blades, movement of the blade assembly in the extension direction and rearward direction is not desirable, but by adopting the suspension mechanism described above, the translational motion in these directions can be prevented. The blade assembly can be held firmly.
The exact number of spring suspension mechanisms provided is not critical. The suspension system is such that two separate support positions are separated from each other in the direction of extension of the blade assembly, and the other separate support position is spaced transversely from the axis connecting the two separate support positions. It is preferable that they are arranged. Advantageously, the four spring suspensions are arranged in groups opposite to each other, for example in the vicinity of each corner of the frame in the blade assembly. The suspension device may have a plurality of springs such as integrally molded plastic springs, bow springs or torsion springs, or may comprise a plurality of struts and compression coil springs associated with these struts.
The present invention is applicable to razors having a blade assembly attached semi-permanently, and razors with a blade assembly in the form of a replaceable cartridge. In the latter case, the suspension device may be coupled to the cartridge and detachably connected to the handle, or the suspension device may be fixed to the handle and either one directly to the cartridge. It may be detachably connected or connected to a cartridge support member that releasably locks the cartridge (eg, by a sliding connection in a manner known per se).
Hereinafter, individual embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a bottom perspective view of the shaving cartridge according to the second embodiment of the present invention,
FIG. 3 is an enlarged side view of the cartridge shown in FIG.
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a third embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 1 shows the upper part of a razor with an independent suspension according to the invention. In the razor handle, the lower part for gripping with the hand is omitted as it is not important for the concept of the invention, and only its upper part 1 is shown. A
The blade may be secured in the cartridge frame or may be movable (e.g., downwardly against the restoring force of the return spring element as is known in the art).
The
a) downward translation as indicated by
b) downward movement of the front or rear of the cartridge, leading to effective rotation about an axis extending in the cartridge extension direction; and
c) Movable from the rest position by downward movement of one end of the cartridge leading to an effective tilt around the transverse axis.
Of course, these movements need not be unambiguous, and these movements may be related to the contour of the skin area (where the guard part and the cap face pass during shaving). Any combination of forms can be made to closely track. The cartridge is fixed with respect to the handle and is not adapted to rotate about predetermined extension and transverse axes, but the suspension spring can change the effective position of the rotation axis. This allows the cartridge to float. The magnitude of this allowed movement need not be very large.
One direction in which the cartridge is held tight against movement by the torsion spring 8 is the extension direction of the cartridge, ie, the direction parallel to the edge of the blade. Similarly to the backward movement of one end of the cartridge that leads to effective pivoting or swinging about the downwardly extending axis, resistance is also generated in the backward translation indicated by the arrow 13. .
In the second embodiment shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the independent suspension device includes a total of four
The plurality of arcuate springs are disposed at positions closer to the center than the end of the cartridge, but substantially the movement of the cartridge relative to the handle has been described above in relation to the first embodiment. It will be understood that it gives the same degree of freedom. In particular, the translational motion and the rotational motion (a) to (c) are allowed.
FIG. 4 shows an embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the
By the independent spring suspension of the razor shown in FIG. 4, the degree of freedom of the movements (a) to (c) described with reference to FIG. 1 from the rest position where the cartridge 52 is biased by the force of the
The illustrated razor is an exemplary embodiment of the present invention and other independent suspensions that can provide several degrees of freedom of movement of the cartridge so that it can closely follow the contours of the skin during shaving. A mechanism is also possible. It will be apparent that modifications and variations are possible within the concept and scope of the invention, however, it is our intention to be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
