[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, if a virtual paper tray is also displayed on the panel when a virtual paper tray is selected and processed in this way, the user must be aware of a paper tray that does not actually exist. Don't be. If the emulation program must designate a tray and make a print request, if a virtual paper feed tray is designated in normal printing, printing cannot be performed, and further processing must be added.
[0004]
The present invention is for solving these problems. When a virtual paper feed tray is selected and processed, the virtual paper feed tray is not displayed on the panel, and the user actually exists. An image forming apparatus capable of performing print processing without being aware of a virtual paper feed tray, a method for controlling the image forming apparatus, and a computer-readable storage medium storing a program for executing the method The purpose is to provide.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problem, the image forming apparatus of the present invention forms a virtual paper feed tray and designates a virtual paper feed tray to perform printing. It is characterized by having a display unit for displaying and a control unit that does not display the virtual paper feed tray on the display unit when printing is performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray. Therefore, the user can perform print processing without being aware of a virtual paper feed tray that does not actually exist.
[0006]
In addition, even if a virtual paper feed tray is generated, the control unit controls the system setting list and setting screen so that the virtual paper feed tray is not displayed on the display unit, so that the paper feed tray is actually installed. It becomes possible for the user to perform the printing process without being aware of the virtual sheet feeding tray that is not present.
[0007]
In addition, when the virtual feed tray is used for printing that does not require transport of paper such as accumulated printing, the control unit controls so that the virtual feed tray cannot be specified except for printing that does not require transport of paper. By doing so, the emulation program can make a print request without being aware of the virtual paper feed tray, and the processing added to the printer system can be minimized.
[0008]
In addition, the control unit controls so that only the virtual paper feed tray can be specified when performing printing that does not need to transport paper such as stored printing, so that the setting of stored printing affects other normal printing. Thus, the virtual paper feed tray can be used as a dedicated tray for printing that does not require conveyance of paper such as accumulated printing.
[0009]
In addition, when the virtual feed tray is used for printing that does not need to transport paper such as accumulated printing, the control unit can control the printing so that printing is performed with a paper size that is not mechanically supported. It is possible to print with a wide paper size.
[0010]
In addition, when the emulation program designates a virtual paper feed tray as a paper feed tray in printing that conveys paper such as normal printing, the control unit controls the paper feed tray to be changed to a normal paper feed tray. The user and the emulation program do not need to be aware of the paper feed tray, and the emulation program process can be simplified and developed.
[0011]
Furthermore, the control unit controls the tray to be distributed from the virtual paper tray to the normal paper tray according to the paper size in the print data, so that the paper is not distributed to the paper trays of different paper sizes. Further, by comparing not the paper size of the print data but the setting of the virtual paper feed tray, the processing can be simplified only by comparing the paper feed trays.
[0012]
According to another image forming apparatus control method of the present invention, when printing is performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray, the virtual paper feed tray displays information related to the processing state of the image forming apparatus. Do not display on the display. Therefore, the user can perform print processing without being aware of a virtual paper feed tray that does not actually exist.
[0013]
Furthermore, even if a virtual paper feed tray is generated, by controlling the virtual paper feed tray not to be displayed on the display unit in the system setting list or setting screen, a virtual paper tray that is not actually mounted is controlled. It is possible for the user to perform print processing without being aware of a suitable paper feed tray.
[0014]
Also, when using a virtual paper feed tray for printing that does not require transport of paper, such as stored printing, control is performed so that a virtual paper feed tray cannot be specified except for printing that does not require transport of paper. The emulation program can make a print request without being aware of the virtual paper feed tray, and the processing added to the printer system can be minimized.
[0015]
Furthermore, by controlling so that only paper feed trays can be specified when performing printing that does not require transport of paper such as stored printing, the setting of stored printing does not affect other normal printing, The virtual paper feed tray can be used as a dedicated tray for printing that does not require conveyance of paper such as accumulated printing.
[0016]
In addition, when using a virtual paper feed tray for printing that does not require transport of paper such as accumulated printing, the user can control the printing to a paper size that is not mechanically supported. It becomes possible to print with.
[0017]
Furthermore, when the emulation program designates a virtual paper feed tray as a paper feed tray in printing that conveys paper such as normal printing, the user can be controlled by changing the paper feed tray to a normal paper feed tray. The emulation program also does not need to be aware of the paper feed tray, simplifying the processing of the emulation program and making it easier to develop.
[0018]
In addition, by controlling the paper feed tray from the virtual paper feed tray to the normal paper feed tray according to the paper size in the print data, it is not possible to sort the paper feed trays of different paper sizes. By comparing the virtual paper feed tray settings rather than the paper size of the print data, it is possible to simplify the processing only by comparing the paper feed trays.
[0019]
Furthermore, as another invention, there is a feature in a computer-readable storage medium storing a program for executing the above-described image forming apparatus control method. Therefore, it is possible to construct a generalized system for controlling an image forming apparatus without changing an existing system.
[0020]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

This is a process in a case where a virtual paper feed tray is not displayed on the operation panel or the like when printing is performed with a specified paper feed tray specified.
[0024]
In the figure, first, print data is received from the host apparatus 200 (step S101). Then, the emulation program selects a paper feed tray (step S102). It is determined whether or not the selected paper feed tray is a virtual tray (step S103). If it is a virtual paper feed tray (step S103; YES), the virtual paper feed tray is not displayed on the

FIG. 3 is a flowchart showing another display control operation of the virtual paper feed tray in the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. This virtual paper feed tray display control operation is performed in an image forming apparatus capable of forming a virtual paper feed tray with a printer system and performing printing by designating the virtual paper feed tray. This is processing that does not display a virtual paper feed tray on the system setting list or setting screen even when a new paper feed tray is generated.
[0026]
In the figure, first, when the setting list print key is pressed (step S201), setting information of the image forming apparatus is acquired (step S202). Then, it is determined whether or not a virtual paper feed tray exists in the paper feed tray (step S203). If there is a virtual paper feed tray (step S203; YES), the virtual paper feed tray is not displayed (step S204) and the setting list is printed (step S205). On the other hand, if there is no virtual paper feed tray (step S203; NO), the setting list is printed as it is (step S205).
[0027]
As described above, a virtual paper feed tray is generated in an image forming apparatus in which a virtual paper feed tray is formed by the printer system and printing can be performed by designating the virtual paper feed tray. Even in this case, the virtual paper feed tray is not displayed on the system setting list or the setting screen, so that the user can perform the printing process without being aware of the virtual paper feed tray that is not actually installed. Become.
[0028]
FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing another display control operation of the virtual paper feed tray in the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. This virtual paper feed tray display control operation is performed in an image forming apparatus in which a virtual paper feed tray is formed by a printer system and printing can be performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray. When a virtual paper feed tray is used only for printing that does not require transport of equal paper, a process that makes it impossible to specify a virtual paper feed tray other than printing that does not require paper transport in the printer system. is there.
[0029]
In the figure, first, when the emulation program issues a request to change the selected paper feed tray (step S301), it is determined whether or not the selected paper feed tray is a virtual paper feed tray (step S302). If it is a virtual paper feed tray (step S302; YES), it is determined whether or not accumulated printing is being processed (step S303). If it is not a virtual paper feed tray in step S302 (step S302; NO), or if accumulation printing is being performed (step S303; YES), the paper feed tray is changed (step S304). On the other hand, if accumulation printing is not performed (step S303; NO), the paper feed tray is not changed (step S305).
[0030]
In this way, in an image forming apparatus capable of forming a virtual paper feed tray with a printer system and specifying a virtual paper feed tray for printing, printing that does not require transport of paper such as accumulated printing When a virtual paper tray is used only for the printer, the emulation program makes it possible to specify a virtual paper tray by making it impossible to specify a virtual paper tray other than printing that does not require paper transport in the printer system. A print request can be made without being aware of the tray, and processing added to the printer system can be minimized.
[0031]
FIG. 5 is a flowchart showing another display control operation of the virtual paper feed tray in the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. This virtual paper feed tray display control operation is performed in an image forming apparatus in which a virtual paper feed tray is formed by a printer system and printing can be performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray. This is a processing flow for making it possible to specify only a virtual paper feed tray in the printer system when performing printing that does not require transporting equal paper.
[0032]
In the figure, when a request is made to change the paper feed tray selected by the emulation program (step S401), it is determined whether or not accumulated printing is being processed (step S402). If accumulated printing is being processed (step S402; YES), it is determined whether or not the selected paper feed tray is a virtual paper feed tray (step S403). If normal printing is being processed (step S402; NO), or if the selected paper feed tray is a virtual tray (step S403; YES), the paper feed tray is changed (step S404). On the other hand, if a virtual paper feed tray is not selected (step S403; NO), an error is returned without changing the paper feed tray (step S405).
[0033]
As described above, in an image forming apparatus capable of forming a virtual paper feed tray in the printer system and performing printing using the virtual paper feed tray, the printer system is used for printing that does not require paper conveyance. In this case, it is possible to make it possible to specify only the virtual paper feed tray.
[0034]
FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing another display control operation of the virtual paper feed tray in the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. This virtual paper feed tray display control operation is performed in an image forming apparatus in which a virtual paper feed tray is formed by a printer system and printing can be performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray. In the case where a virtual paper feed tray is used for printing that does not require transport of equal paper, this is a flow of processing for printing even on a paper size that is not mechanically supported.
[0035]
In the figure, first, when print data is received from the host device 200 (step S501), it is determined whether or not the paper size of the print data is within the supported size range (step S502). If the paper size of the print data is outside the supported size range (step S502; NO), it is determined whether or not accumulated printing is being processed (step S503). On the other hand, if the paper size of the print data is within the supported size range (step S502; YES), or if accumulated printing is being processed in step S503 (step S503; YES), the printing process is performed (step S504). ). On the other hand, if accumulated printing has not been processed in step S503 (step S503; NO), an error is returned (step S505).
[0036]
In this way, in an image forming apparatus in which a virtual paper feed tray is formed by a printer system and printing can be performed by specifying a virtual paper feed tray, printing that does not require conveyance of paper such as accumulated printing When a virtual paper feed tray is used, the user can print a free size by printing even a paper size that is not mechanically supported.
[0037]
FIG. 7 is a flowchart showing another display control operation of the virtual paper feed tray in the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. This virtual paper feed tray display control operation is performed in a normal manner in an image forming apparatus in which a virtual paper feed tray is formed by a printer system and printing can be performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray. When the emulation program designates a virtual paper feed tray as a paper feed tray in printing for transporting paper such as printing, the processing flow is to replace the paper feed tray with a normal paper feed tray in the printer system.
[0038]
In the figure, first, when print data is received from the host apparatus 200 (step S601), it is determined whether or not the emulation program has selected a virtual paper feed tray (step S602). If a virtual paper feed tray is selected (step S602; YES), it is determined whether or not accumulated printing is being processed (step S603). If accumulated printing has not been processed (step S603; NO), the selected paper feed tray is converted from a virtual paper feed tray to a normal paper feed tray, and printing processing is performed (steps S604 and S605). . On the other hand, if accumulated printing is being processed (step S603; YES), printing processing is performed with a virtual paper feed tray (step S605).
[0039]
As described above, in an image forming apparatus capable of forming a virtual paper feed tray in a printer system and specifying a virtual paper feed tray for printing, virtual printing is performed in normal printing such as printing. When an emulation program designates a typical paper tray as a paper tray, replacing the paper tray with a normal paper tray in the printer system simplifies the processing of the emulation program and makes it easier to develop. No need to be aware of paper trays.
[0040]
FIG. 8 is a flowchart showing another display control operation of the virtual paper feed tray in the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. In addition to the operation shown in FIG. 7, this virtual paper feed tray display control operation is performed by changing the paper feed tray from the virtual paper feed tray to the normal paper feed tray according to the paper size in the print data. This is a sort process.
[0041]
First, print data is received from the host device 200 (step S701). It is determined whether the emulation program has selected a virtual paper feed tray (step S702). If a virtual paper feed tray is selected (step S702; YES), the setting is changed to a virtual paper feed tray setting, for example, a specified paper size setting (step S703). Then, it is determined whether or not accumulated printing is being processed (step S704). If it is not accumulated printing (step S704; NO), the settings of the virtual paper feed tray and the normal paper feed tray are compared (step S705). It is determined whether there is a normal paper feed tray having the same settings as the virtual paper feed tray (step S706). If there is the same paper feed tray (step S706; YES), the paper feed tray is converted and printing processing is performed (steps S707 and S708). On the other hand, if the same paper feed tray does not exist (step S706; NO), an error is returned (step S709).
[0042]
In this way, when converting a paper tray from a virtual paper tray to a normal paper tray, a paper tray of the same size as the paper size set for the virtual paper tray is searched and By sorting to different size paper feed trays, it is not possible to sort to different paper size feed trays, and by comparing the virtual paper tray settings rather than the paper size of the print data, It is possible to simplify the processing only by comparing the above.
[0043]
FIG. 9 is a block diagram showing the system configuration of the present invention. That is, this figure shows hardware constructed from a microprocessor or the like that executes software according to the control method of the image forming apparatus in the embodiment. In the figure, the control system of the image forming apparatus includes an interface (hereinafter abbreviated as I / F) 11, a

【The invention's effect】
As described above, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention forms a virtual paper feed tray and performs printing by designating a virtual paper feed tray. The image forming apparatus according to the present invention displays information related to the processing state of the image forming apparatus. And a control unit that does not display the virtual paper feed tray on the display unit when printing is performed by designating the virtual paper feed tray. Therefore, the user can perform print processing without being aware of a virtual paper feed tray that does not actually exist.
[0046]
In addition, even if a virtual paper feed tray is generated, the control unit controls the system setting list and setting screen so that the virtual paper feed tray is not displayed on the display unit, so that the paper feed tray is actually installed. It becomes possible for the user to perform the printing process without being aware of the virtual sheet feeding tray that is not present.
[0047]
In addition, when the virtual feed tray is used for printing that does not require transport of paper such as accumulated printing, the control unit controls so that the virtual feed tray cannot be specified except for printing that does not require transport of paper. By doing so, the emulation program can make a print request without being aware of the virtual paper feed tray, and the processing added to the printer system can be minimized.
[0048]
In addition, the control unit controls so that only the virtual paper feed tray can be specified when performing printing that does not need to transport paper such as stored printing, so that the setting of stored printing affects other normal printing. Thus, the virtual paper feed tray can be used as a dedicated tray for printing that does not require conveyance of paper such as accumulated printing.
[0049]
In addition, when the virtual feed tray is used for printing that does not need to transport paper such as accumulated printing, the control unit can control the printing so that printing is performed with a paper size that is not mechanically supported. It is possible to print with a wide paper size.
[0050]
In addition, when the emulation program designates a virtual paper feed tray as a paper feed tray in printing that conveys paper such as normal printing, the control unit controls the paper feed tray to be changed to a normal paper feed tray. The user and the emulation program do not need to be aware of the paper feed tray, and the emulation program process can be simplified and developed.
[0051]
Further, the control unit controls the paper feed tray to be distributed from the virtual paper feed tray to the normal paper feed tray according to the paper size in the print data, so that the paper feed trays can be assigned to different paper sizes. In addition, it is possible to simplify the processing only by comparing the paper feed trays by comparing the virtual paper feed tray settings, not the paper size of the print data.
[0052]
According to another image forming apparatus control method of the present invention, when printing is performed by designating a virtual paper feed tray, the virtual paper feed tray displays information related to the processing state of the image forming apparatus. Do not display on the display. Therefore, the user can perform print processing without being aware of a virtual paper feed tray that does not actually exist.
[0053]
Furthermore, even if a virtual paper feed tray is generated, by controlling the virtual paper feed tray not to be displayed on the display unit in the system setting list or setting screen, a virtual paper tray that is not actually mounted is controlled. It is possible for the user to perform print processing without being aware of a suitable paper feed tray.
[0054]
Also, when using a virtual paper feed tray for printing that does not require transport of paper, such as stored printing, control is performed so that a virtual paper feed tray cannot be specified except for printing that does not require transport of paper. The emulation program can make a print request without being aware of the virtual paper feed tray, and the processing added to the printer system can be minimized.
[0055]
Furthermore, by controlling so that only paper feed trays can be specified when performing printing that does not require transport of paper such as stored printing, the setting of stored printing does not affect other normal printing, The virtual paper feed tray can be used as a dedicated tray for printing that does not require conveyance of paper such as accumulated printing.
[0056]
In addition, when using a virtual paper feed tray for printing that does not require transport of paper such as accumulated printing, the user can control the printing to a paper size that is not mechanically supported. It becomes possible to print with.
[0057]
Furthermore, when the emulation program designates a virtual paper feed tray as a paper feed tray in printing that conveys paper such as normal printing, the user can be controlled by changing the paper feed tray to a normal paper feed tray. The emulation program also does not need to be aware of the paper feed tray, simplifying the processing of the emulation program and making it easier to develop.
[0058]
In addition, by controlling the paper feed tray from the virtual paper feed tray to the normal paper feed tray according to the paper size in the print data, it is not possible to sort the paper feed trays of different paper sizes. By comparing the virtual paper feed tray settings rather than the paper size of the print data, it is possible to simplify the processing only by comparing the paper feed trays.
[0059]
Furthermore, as another invention, there is a feature in a computer-readable storage medium storing a program for executing the above-described image forming apparatus control method. Therefore, it is possible to construct a generalized system for controlling an image forming apparatus without changing an existing system.
