Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image display device, and more particularly to a display device that can display both a stereoscopic image and a planar image.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As one of the stereoscopic television systems that can be viewed from an arbitrary viewpoint, Integral Photography (IP method) using micro convex lens groups or pinhole groups arranged on a plane is known. An IP display device having a lens group has been proposed and realized by Japanese Patent Application No. 7-85437 by the present applicant.
[0003]
First, the IP method will be described.
[0004]

[0005]
In order to realize this IP method in a television, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 7-85437, a real image is directly taken by a lens group, and the image group is displayed on a liquid crystal panel or the like with the lens group. A technique for displaying on a device has been invented. Japanese Patent Application No. 8-307763 discloses an invention using a gradient index optical fiber as a lens group.
[0006]
In general, in the IP method, when each lens constituting a lens group is equivalent to one normal convex lens at the time of imaging, the film that has been imaged and developed is placed at the original position, or the captured element image is displayed. Displaying on the device gives the reproduced image a state (a fake stereoscopic image) in which the depth and the unevenness are reversed with respect to the subject. That is, the reproduced

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In one embodiment of the present invention, an optical system for viewing an image is a refractive index distribution lens group in which refractive index distribution lenses (optical fibers) whose refractive index changes in the radial direction are two-dimensionally arranged. Consists of. During stereoscopic image display, the refractive index distribution lens group is mechanically driven to refract so that the display element surface on which the element image for stereoscopic image display is displayed coincides with the object-side focal plane of the refractive index distribution lens. The positions of the rate distribution lens group and the display element surface are controlled. When displaying a planar image, the position of the refractive index distribution lens is switched to a position where the display element surface on which the element image for displaying the planar image is displayed coincides with the object-side main plane of the refractive index distribution lens. To switch the positions of the gradient index lens group and the display element surface, the display element may be driven.
[0021]
Alternatively, the refractive index distribution lens group, the display element for stereoscopic image display, and the display element for flat image display, and the display element surface for the stereoscopic image display is the object-side focal plane of the refractive index distribution lens. Is placed at a position where the display element surface coincides with the object-side main plane of the gradient index lens, and the 3D image display element is made opaque to display a 3D image. The element image for stereoscopic image display is reproduced and displayed on the display element surface for image display, and the planar image is displayed on the display element surface for planar image display after the display element for stereoscopic image display is made transparent when displaying a planar image. Playback display may also be performed.
