Description

The present invention relates to an electrical connector assembly including a first electrical connector and a second electrical connector that fit together.

2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, an airbag device equipped with a cushioning air bag (airbag) that automatically inflates when a vehicle collides and protects a driver or the like from an impact is mounted on the vehicle and widely used. In addition to the airbag, the airbag device includes a generator that generates an inflation fluid that inflates the airbag, a sensor that detects a collision, and the like. These generators and sensors generally have a plurality of substrates on which electric circuits are formed, and each substrate is connected with a female housing and terminals arranged in the female housing. An electrical connector and an electrical connector assembly comprising both a male housing and an electrical connector having terminals arranged in the male housing are used.

The female housing and the male housing are usually provided with a latch member that prevents the female housing and the male housing from coming off when they are completely fitted. When the female housing and the male housing are completely fitted to each other, the latch member prevents them from coming off, and the terminals arranged in the female housing and the terminals arranged in the male housing are connected to each other. They are connected to each other. However, the terminals may be connected to each other even when the female housing and the male housing are in the middle of fitting (half-fitted state). There is a possibility that the housing and the male housing are inadvertently detached and the connection between the terminals is released. Therefore, it has been conventionally performed to electrically detect whether the female housing and the male housing are completely fitted (completely fitted) or half-fitted using a warning lamp or the like. Yes.

As one of such electrical connector assemblies, an electrical connector assembly disclosed in Patent Document 1 is known. The electrical connector assembly includes a first electrical connector having a female housing and a second electrical connector having a male housing, and the first electrical connector is formed integrally with the female housing. A latch protrusion and a half-fitting detection terminal are provided. The second electrical connector includes a latch protrusion that engages with the latch protrusion of the female housing, and a flexible half-fitting detection terminal that contacts the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing in a completely fitted state. I have. The latch protrusion of the second electrical connector is formed on the surface of the plate-like flexible member of the male housing, and the back surface of the plate-like flexible member is in a semi-fitted state in a flexible half-fitting state. A pressing protrusion is formed that presses the joint detection terminal and does not contact the flexible half-fitting detection terminal with the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing.

When the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are fitted together, the tops of the latch projections of the female housing press the tops of the latch projections of the male housing in the half-fitted state. Thus, the plate-like flexible member of the male housing is bent downward, and the pressing protrusion presses the flexible half-fitting detection terminal, and the flexible half-fitting detection terminal and the female housing Connection with the half-fitting detection terminal is hindered. When the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are completely fitted, the latch projections of the female housing and the latch projections of the male housing are engaged with each other, so that they are bent in the half-fitted state. The plate-like flexible member is returned to its original state, and the flexible half-fitting detection terminal and the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing are connected. As a result, the flexible half-fitting detection terminal and the female housing half-fitting detection terminal form a closed circuit. For example, a warning light connected to the closed circuit is turned on, and the first electric It is detected that the connector and the second electrical connector are completely fitted and not in a half-fitted state.

As another example of such an electrical connector assembly, an electrical connector assembly disclosed in Patent Document 2 is known.

The electrical connector assembly includes a first electrical connector having a female housing and a second electrical connector having a male housing. The female housing of the first electrical connector has an engagement hole and An inclined surface that descends toward the front is formed, and a semi-fitting detection terminal is disposed slightly below the inclined surface. On the other hand, the male housing of the second electrical connector is formed with an engaging projection that engages with the engaging hole of the female housing, and further, a flexible half connected to the half-fitting detection terminal. The fitting detection terminals are arranged.

When the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are fitted to each other, the flexible half-fitting detection terminal runs on the inclined surface of the female housing in the half-fitted state. The connection between the sexual half-fitting detection terminal and the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing is hindered. In a state where the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are completely fitted, the latch protrusion of the male housing is fitted into the latch hole of the female housing, and on the inclined surface of the female housing. The flexible half-fitting detection terminal falls and is connected to the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing. As a result, the flexible half-fitting detection terminal of the male housing and the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing form a closed circuit, and a warning light connected to the closed circuit is turned on. It is detected that the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are completely fitted and not in a half-fitted state.

As yet another example of a similar electrical connector assembly, an electrical connector assembly disclosed in Patent Document 3 is known.

The electrical connector assembly includes a first electrical connector having a female housing and a second electrical connector having a male housing. The female housing of the first electrical connector is engaged with the tip. A flexible engagement arm having protrusions is formed. On the other hand, the male housing of the second electrical connector is formed with an engaging protrusion that engages with the engaging protrusion of the engaging arm. Two half-fitting detection terminals arranged in parallel are exposed on the surface of the housing behind the engagement protrusion, and one of the two half-fitting detection terminals is in contact with the short-circuiting terminal. A flexible short-circuit terminal is disposed above the other.

When the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are fitted to each other, when both are in a half-fitted state, the flexible short-circuiting terminal is positioned above one of the half-fitting detection terminals. The two half-fitting detection terminals are not short-circuited. In a state in which the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are completely fitted, the engaging projection of the female housing engages with the engaging projection of the male housing and the flexible short-circuiting terminal is positioned downward. And the flexible short-circuiting terminal and the half-fitting detection terminal are connected. As a result, the two half-fitting detection terminals of the male housing are short-circuited to form a closed circuit, a warning light connected to the closed circuit is lit, and the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector Are completely fitted and not in a half-fitted state.
JP-A-1-167971 Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 2-50982 No. 4-3419

Among the electrical connector assemblies provided with the above-described conventional warning lights, the electrical connector assembly disclosed in Patent Document 1 has the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector half-fitted as described above. In the combined state, the top of the latch projection of the female housing presses the top of the latch projection of the male housing, which causes the plate-like flexible member of the male housing to bend downward and the press projection to be flexible. The flexible half-fitting detection terminal is pressed to prevent the connection between the flexible half-fitting detection terminal and the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing. There is a problem that the solid is a complicated structure.

In addition, as described above, the electrical connector assembly disclosed in Patent Document 2 is male in the latch hole of the female housing in a state where the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are completely fitted. On the other hand, the latch protrusion of the mold housing is fitted, while the flexible half-fitting detection terminal that has run on the inclined surface of the female housing falls and is connected to the half-fitting detection terminal of the female housing. Although the half-fitting is detected, the movement of the half-fitting detection terminal and the movement of the engaging protrusion are not interlocked. For this reason, the reliability of half-fitting detection may be reduced.

Further, in the electrical connector assembly disclosed in Patent Document 3, as described above, the two half-fitting detection terminals arranged in parallel with the housing surface are arranged so as to be exposed. If the terminal for detection is easily soiled and conductive dust or the like adheres to the terminal, it may be mistaken for the fully fitted state, and the half-fitted state may not be detected accurately. Further, since the short-circuiting terminal is also exposed, there is a possibility that the half-fitting detection terminal may be inadvertently short-circuited by an external force, and there is a problem that the reliability is low.

In view of the above circumstances, an object of the present invention is to provide an electrical connector assembly having a half-fitting detection function with a relatively simple structure and improved reliability.

To achieve the above object, an electrical connector assembly of the present invention includes a first electrical connector having a male housing and a second housing having a female housing in which a receiving portion for receiving the male housing is formed. An electrical connector that is electrically connected to a warning means that indicates whether the first and second electrical connectors are in a half-fitted state during fitting or in a fully-fitted state after fitting. In the assembly, the second electrical connector extends in the fitting direction alongside each other and has contact parts that are detachable from each other and electrically connected to the warning means; and An engagement protrusion for preventing the male housing and the female housing from coming off in a completely fitted state is provided in the receiving portion, and the first electrical connector is in the fully fitted state. The contact parts are A switching member that switches a connection state between the detection terminal and the warning means between the half-fitted state and the full-fitted state by contacting the member, and a member that engages with the engaging protrusion in the full-fitted state. A latch arm having a mating protrusion is provided in the male housing.

Here, the warning means refers to a warning light such as a lamp or an alarm such as a buzzer.

As described above, the electrical connector assembly of the present invention is half-fitted by the latch arm included in the first electrical connector and the two detection terminals and the engagement protrusions included in the receiving portion of the second electrical connector. Since it is configured to detect whether it is in a mated state or a fully fitted state, it is possible to reliably detect whether it is in a semi-fitted state or a fully fitted state with a relatively simple configuration, and the detection reliability is improved.

Embodiments of an electrical connector assembly according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.

1 to 5 are cross-sectional views showing a half-fitted state in the middle of fitting of the electrical connector assembly according to the first embodiment of the present invention to a fully-fitted state after fitting.

The electrical connector assembly 10 includes a first electrical connector 20 having a male housing 22 and a second electrical connector 40 having a female housing 42. The first and second electrical connectors 20, 40 is electrically connected to a warning light (not shown) indicating whether the fitting is in a half-fitted state or a fully-fitted state after fitting.

The first electrical connector 20 includes a flexible latch arm 24 extending in the fitting direction (arrow A direction), and a flexible first detection terminal 26 facing the latch arm 24 and extending in the fitting direction. It has. The latch arm 24 and the first detection terminal 26 are integrally formed by punching and bending a single metal plate, and constitute a single metal member 28. An engagement hole 30 is formed in the latch arm 24, and the first detection terminal 26 is electrically connected to and separated from the warning lamp. In the central portion of the latch arm 24, a pressing protrusion 32 formed by cutting out the latch arm 24 extends toward the first detection terminal 26. The pressing protrusion 32 transmits the bending of the latch arm 24 toward the first detection terminal 26 to the first detection terminal 26 to bend the first detection terminal 26. Thereby, as will be described later, the connection state between the first detection terminal 26 and the warning lamp is switched between the half-fitted state and the full-fitted state. The male housing 22 is also provided with a hole 34 in which terminals (not shown) for transmitting electrical signals are arranged and a double lock member hole 36 into which a double lock member (not shown) is inserted. Yes.

The second electrical connector 40 is inserted into a space sandwiched between the latch arm 24 and the first detection terminal 26 as the first and second electrical connectors 20 and 40 are fitted. The second detection terminal 44 is electrically connected to a warning light. An engaging arm 46 extends from the female housing 42 toward the male housing 22, and an engaging protrusion 48 is formed at the tip thereof. The function of the engagement protrusion 48 will be described.

As shown in FIG. 1, in the initial half-fitted state in which the first and second electrical connectors 20 and 40 start to be fitted, the engagement protrusion 48 is only slightly in contact with the latch arm 24. The first detection terminal 26 and the second detection terminal 44 are not in contact with each other. In the semi-fitted state in which the fitting is slightly advanced from the state shown in FIG. 1, as shown in FIG. 2, the engaging protrusion 48 deflects the latch arm 24, and thereby the pressing protrusion 32 causes the latch arm 24 to bend. This is transmitted to the first detection terminal 26 and the first detection terminal 26 is bent. For this reason, the first detection terminal 26 is pushed downward, the first detection terminal 26 is separated from the second detection terminal 44, and the two do not contact each other. In the half-fitted state in which the fitting is slightly advanced from the state shown in FIG. 2, the engagement protrusion 48 further deflects the latch arm 24 as shown in FIG. 3, thereby causing the pressing protrusion 32 to bend the latch arm 24. Is transmitted to the first detection terminal 26 to further bend the first detection terminal 26. For this reason, the first detection terminal 26 is pushed downward, and even if the second detection terminal 44 comes above the first detection terminal 26, they do not contact each other. In the semi-fitted state just before the fitting is slightly advanced from the state shown in FIG. 3, the engaging protrusion 48 further deflects the latch arm 24 as shown in FIG. 32 transmits the bending of the latch arm 24 to the first detection terminal 26 to further bend the first detection terminal 26. For this reason, the first detection terminal 26 is pushed downward, and even if the second detection terminal 44 comes above the first detection terminal 26, they do not contact each other. In the fully fitted state in which the fitting is slightly advanced from the state shown in FIG. 4 and is completely fitted, as shown in FIG. 5, the engaging protrusion 48 is fitted into the engaging hole 30 and engaged. Thereby, the bending of the latch arm 24 is released, and the first and second detection terminals 26 and 44 are connected. As a result, the electric circuit to which the warning lamp is connected is closed, the warning lamp is turned on, and it is detected that the first and second electrical connectors 20 and 40 are completely fitted.

Thus, according to the electrical connector assembly 10, the strong metal latch arm 24 and the first detection terminal 26 are integrated, so that the metal member 28 can be reduced in size, Since the movement of the engagement protrusion 48 and the movement of the first detection terminal 26 are linked, detection is reliable.

A modification of the first electrical connector 20 will be described with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7.

FIG. 6 is an explanatory view showing a state in which a first electrical connector 50 which is a modified example of the first electrical connector 20 and a second electrical connector 40 are completely fitted. 7A and 7B show the metal member 28 ′ provided in the first electrical connector 50, where FIG. 7A is a plan view, FIG. 7B is a side view, and FIG. 7C is a front view. In these drawings, the same components as those shown in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals.

An engagement protrusion 54 that engages with the engagement protrusion 48 is formed in the male housing 52 of the first electrical connector 50. Further, the latch arm 56 and the first detection terminal 26 are formed by bending a single metal plate by a bending portion 58, and constitute a metal member 28 '. Further, in place of the pressing protrusion 32 shown in FIG. 1, a pressing protrusion 60 is formed by cutting and raising the latch arm 56. Further, a fixing hole 62 is formed at one end of the latch arm 56, and the latch arm 56 is fixed to the male housing 52 by fitting a convex portion or lance of the male housing 52 into the fixing hole 62. The A dimple 64 is formed at the center of the latch arm 56 to reinforce the latch arm 56 weakened by cutting and raising the latch arm 56 to form the pressing protrusion 60.

Even if the first electrical connector 50 is configured in this manner, the metal member 28 ′ can be downsized, and the movement of the engagement protrusion 48 and the movement of the first detection terminal 26 are interlocked. Detection is reliable.

Next, a second embodiment of the electrical connector assembly of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.

FIG. 8 shows a second embodiment of the electrical connector assembly of the present invention, (a) is a perspective view, and (b) shows an electrical circuit having a warning light to which the electrical connector assembly of (a) is connected. It is explanatory drawing.

The electrical connector assembly 70 includes a first electrical connector 80 having a male housing 82 and a second electrical connector 100 having a female housing 102 in which a receiving portion 101 for receiving the male housing 82 is formed. The first and second electrical connectors 80 and 100 are electrically connected to a warning lamp 72 indicating whether the first and second electrical connectors 80 and 100 are in a half-fitted state during fitting or in a fully-fitted state after fitting. Note that a resistor 74, a power source 76, and a switch 78 are connected to the electric circuit having the warning lamp 72. The switch 78 corresponds to two detection terminals 104 provided in the female housing 102. It is.

The second electrical connector 100 includes two detection terminals 104 that are aligned with each other and extend in the fitting direction (arrow A direction) and have contact portions 106 that are detachable from each other. As described above, the two detection terminals 104 are electrically connected to the warning lamp 72 and function as a switch of the warning lamp 72. Further, the second electrical connector 100 is an engagement protrusion for preventing the male housing 82 and the female housing 102 from coming off in a completely fitted state in which the first and second electrical connectors 80 and 100 are completely fitted. 108 is also provided. The two detection terminals 104 and the engaging protrusions 108 are provided on the inner wall surface 102 a of the female housing that faces the receiving portion 101.

Further, the first electrical connector enters the outer wall surface 82a of the male housing 82 between the contact portions 106 in the above-described completely fitted state, and pulls the contact portions 106 apart from each other, thereby separating the half-fitted state and the completely fitted state. And a separation projection 84 for switching the connection state between the detection terminal 104 and the warning lamp 72. On the outer wall surface 82a of the male housing 82, an engaging portion 86 that engages with the engaging protrusion 108 in a completely fitted state is formed. The outer wall surface 82 faces the inner wall surface 102a in a completely fitted state.

When the first and second electrical connectors 80 and 100 are fitted, in the half-fitted state, the fitting proceeds while the engaging protrusion 108 rides on the slope 88, and in this half-fitted state, the contact portion 106 comes into contact. The warning light 72 is lit. In the fully fitted state, the engaging projection 108 gets over the inclined surface 88 and engages with the engaging portion 86, the contact portion 106 is pulled away by the projection 84, and the warning lamp 72 is turned off. Thereby, it is detected whether the first and second electrical connectors 80 and 100 are in the half-fitted state or the full-fitted state. Since the contact portion 106 is formed inside the female housing 102, it is possible to prevent contamination and deformation due to contact with the outside, and it is possible to reliably detect the semi-fitted state or the fully-fitted state. Furthermore, since the separation protrusion 84 and the detection terminal 104 function as a warning light switch, a simple structure can be achieved with relatively few members. In addition, since both the separation of the contact portion 106 and the engagement of the engagement portion 86 and the engagement protrusion 108 are interlocked, it is possible to reliably detect the half-fitted state or the fully-fitted state.

Next, a third embodiment of the electrical connector assembly of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS.

9A and 9B show a half-fitted state of the electrical connector assembly according to the third embodiment of the present invention, in which FIG. 9A is a plan view and FIG. 9B is a sectional view taken along line BB in FIG. 10A and 10B show a completely fitted state of the electrical connector assembly shown in FIG. 9, where FIG. 10A is a plan view, and FIG. 10B is a cross-sectional view taken along the line CC in FIG.

The electrical connector assembly 110 includes a first electrical connector 120 having a male housing 122 and a second electrical connector 140 having a female housing 142 in which a receiving portion 111 for receiving the male housing 122 is formed. The first and second electrical connectors 120 and 140 are electrically connected to a warning lamp (not shown) indicating whether the first and second electrical connectors 120 and 140 are in a half-fitted state during fitting or in a fully-fitted state after fitting. ing.

The second electrical connector 140 includes two detection terminals 146 that have side-by-side contact portions 144 that extend in the fitting direction (arrow A direction) alongside each other and that can contact and separate from each other. The two detection terminals 146 are electrically connected to a warning light. In addition, the second electrical connector 140 is an engagement protrusion for preventing the male housing 122 and the female housing 142 from coming off in a completely fitted state in which the first and second electrical connectors 120 and 140 are completely fitted. 148 is also provided. Two detection terminals 146 and engagement protrusions 148 are provided in the receiving portion 111.

The first electrical connector 120 includes a latch arm 124 formed in the male housing 122. The latch arm 124 is brought into contact with the engagement protrusion 126 that engages with the engagement protrusion 148 when the first and second electrical connectors 120 and 140 are fully engaged, and the contact portion 144 with each other in the fully engaged state. A tapered portion (an example of the switching portion referred to in the present invention) 128 to be formed is formed. As shown in FIG. 10, the taper 128 brings the detection terminals 146 close to each other, and as described above, the contact portions 144 come into contact with each other in the fully fitted state. The connection state between the detection terminal 146 and the warning lamp can be switched, and it is detected whether the first and second electrical connectors 120 and 140 are in the half-fitted state or the full-fitted state. In addition, since the contact portion 144 is formed inside the female housing 142, it is possible to prevent contamination and deformation due to contact with the outside, and to reliably detect whether it is in a semi-fitted state or a fully-fitted state. Further, since the latch arm 124 and the detection terminal 146 function as a warning light switch, a simple structure with relatively few members can be achieved. In addition, since the contact of the contact portion 144 and the engagement of the engagement protrusions 126 and 148 are interlocked, it is possible to reliably detect the half-fitted state or the fully-fitted state. To release the engagement of the engagement protrusions 126 and 148, the first and second electrical connectors 120 and 140 are pulled apart while pressing the pressing portion 130.

Next, a fourth embodiment of the electrical connector assembly of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS.

11 is a schematic view showing the electrical connector assembly, FIG. 12 is an enlarged view of a part of the electrical connector assembly shown in FIG. 11, (a) is a plan view of the engaging member, and (b) is a letter U. It is a perspective view of a metal member.

The electrical connector assembly 150 includes a first electrical connector 160 having a female housing 162, and a second electrical connector 180 having a male housing 182 in which a receiving portion 184 for receiving the female housing 162 is formed. The first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 are electrically connected to a warning light (not shown) indicating whether the first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 are in a half-fitted state during fitting or in a fully-fitted state after fitting. ing.

The receiving portion 184 of the second electrical connector 180 incorporates a U-shaped metal member 190 that is electrically connected and separated. The U-shaped metal member 190 extends in the fitting direction (arrow A direction) and is fixed to the fixing piece 192 fixed to the receiving portion 184 and the fixing piece 192 from one end portion 194 in the fitting direction. And a spring piece 196 that extends in the direction of 192 and bends in a direction toward and away from the fixed piece 192. An engagement protrusion 198 that prevents the female housing 162 and the male housing 182 from coming off in a completely fitted state on a surface 196a of the surface of the spring piece 196 opposite to the surface facing the fixed piece 192, Two fitting detection protrusions 200 for energizing the warning lamp are formed.

The first electrical connector 160 includes an engagement member 164 that engages with the engagement protrusion 198 when the first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 are fully fitted, and the engagement protrusion 198 is fully engaged. 198 fits into the engaging groove 166. Further, at both ends of the engaging member 164 in the width direction, fitting detection terminals 168 connected to warning lights are fixed. The fitting detection terminal 168 is connected to the fitting detection protrusion 200 in a completely fitted state.

In the initial half-fitted state in which the first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 start to be fitted, the distal end portion 164a of the engaging member 164 rides on the engaging protrusion 198, and the spring piece 196 faces the fixed piece 192. The fitting detection projections 200 and the fitting detection terminals 168 are separated from each other by pressing. When the first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 are completely fitted, the engagement protrusion 198 is fitted into the engagement groove 166, and the pressing of the spring piece 196 by the engagement member 164 is released. The spring piece 196 returns to the original position, and the fitting detection projection 200 and the fitting detection terminal 168 are connected. Thus, since the fitting detection projection 200 and the fitting detection terminal 168 are connected in the fully fitted state, the fitting detection projection 200 and the warning light are in the half-fitted state and the completely fitted state. And the first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 are detected to be in a half-fitted state or a full-fitted state. Further, since the metal member 190 is formed inside the male housing 182, dirt and deformation due to contact with the outside can be prevented, and it can be reliably detected whether it is in a semi-fitted state or a fully-fitted state. Furthermore, since the engaging member 164 and the metal member 190 function as a warning light switch, a simple structure with relatively few members can be achieved. In addition, since the engagement of the engagement protrusion 198 and the connection of the fitting detection protrusion 200 are interlocked, it is possible to reliably detect the half-fitted state or the fully-fitted state. Further, in order to release the engagement between the engagement protrusion 198 and the engagement member 164, the first and second electrical connectors 160 and 180 are pulled apart while pressing the engagement release button 202.
