本発明は磁気記録層上を隠蔽した通称オーバープリントカードに関し、さらにこの隠蔽層上に絵柄層を付与した磁気カードに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
従来より磁気ストライプ等の磁気記録層上に、スクリーン印刷等により隠蔽層を設け、この磁気ストライプを見えないよう意匠性を向上させた通常オーバープリントカードと称される磁気カードが知られていると共に、利用されている。
しかし、従来の技術におけるオーバープリントカードは、図2(A)に示すように、先ず塩化ビニル樹脂等の厚さ0.4〜5μm程度のセンターコア材1の両面に、厚さ0.1mm程度の塩化ビニル樹脂等によるオーバーシートt,tをラミネートし、所定の位置に磁気記録層2(一般的に磁気ストライプ)を設けてカード基材を構成する。次に磁気記録層上或いは基材全面に、印刷インキ等による隠蔽層3を厚さ1〜10μm程度にスクリーン印刷等を用いて施し、さらに、この隠蔽層3上に直接絵柄層を設けるか、或いは図に示すように絵柄層のためのベタインキ層7を設け、その上にインキ膜厚を薄くした絵柄層5を設けることで磁気カードが得られる。しかしこれらには各種制限があった。例えば、隠蔽層上に設ける絵柄層の意匠性向上のための白色インキによる白ベタインキ層、或いは淡い色のベタインキ層を設けることができなかった。

その理由としては、図2(A)に示すように、先ず白ベタインキ層7を薄く設定する(インキ膜厚、白インキ濃度等)と、下の層に設けた隠蔽層3(例えば金インキ、銀インキ等)の色を隠すことができず、また直接隠蔽層上に絵柄層を設けてもカード品質が低下する。
また、白ベタインキ層7の膜厚を厚く設定すると白色度は向上するが、図2(B)に示すように、その部分の磁気出力は著しく低下し規格外になってしまう。従って、従来のオーバープリントカード(磁気カード)においては意匠的に制限され、しかも要求品質に基づくカードの製造が困難であった。

そこで本発明は、上記の問題に鑑みなされたものて、隠蔽層の設定を改善することで任意の絵柄層を印刷することが可能になると共に、磁気出力の安定した磁気カードを提供することを目的とする。

上記目的を達成するために本発明は、
磁気記録層2を設けたカード基材1上に、第一隠蔽層3と第二隠蔽層4とを設け、部分的に露出させた第一隠蔽層上に、隠蔽層とは同一色ではないベタインキ層7を設け、該ベタインキ層上に絵柄層5を設け、前記第二隠蔽層4の一部領域に窓枠9を設け、該窓枠内に隠蔽層とは同一色ではないベタインキ層7を設けたことを特徴とする磁気カードである。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明の磁気カード10は、隠蔽層を第一隠蔽層3と第二隠蔽層4の二層として、その第二隠蔽層4の一部領域には窓枠9(隠蔽層印刷を部分的に抜いた)を設け、この窓枠内に隠蔽層とは異なる色の着色或いは白色のベタインキ層7を設け、その上にマーク等の絵柄層5を設けることでデザイン的に優れ、かつ磁気出力の安定したカードを提供することができる。

図1は、本発明の実施例における磁気カードの一例を示すもので、(A)は磁気カードの断面説明図であり、(B)は上記カードの磁気出力波形の一例を示す説明図である。

先ず、図1(A)に示すように、塩化ビニル樹脂等による厚さ0.45〜0.5mm程度のセンターコア1の両面に、塩化ビニル樹脂等により厚さ0.1mm程度のオーバーシートt,tをラミネートしたシートをカード基材とする。
このカード基材上に磁気記録層2が設けられているが、この磁気記録層は一般的に所定の幅の磁気ストライプが使用されている。また、この磁気ストライプは前記のオーバーシートに設けられたものをラミネートする方法、或いはオーバーシートがラミネートされたカード基材に直接貼り付ける方法のいずれでも適宜選択することができる。なお、この磁気ストライプはカード基材の片側或いは両面に設けることも可能である。

次に、このカード基材上の磁気記録層2(磁気ストライプ)の色が暗褐色或いは黒色系のために第一隠蔽層3を厚さ0.5〜5μm程度に施し、磁気記録層を隠蔽する。なお、あまり厚く施すと磁気記録層の再生出力に影響するので前述した厚みの範囲で選択すると良い。この隠蔽層は磁気記録層上を含め自由なデザインができるようにしたものである。従って、この隠蔽力を生かすために濃度の高い着色インキ又は金や銀インキを使用し、印刷もスクリーン印刷等が使用する方法が一般的である。

さらに、本発明はこの第一隠蔽層3上に第二の隠蔽層4を厚さ0.5〜5μm程度に設けて、隠蔽力の向上を図ったものである。この第二隠蔽層4には一部領域に適宜な大きさの窓枠9(第二隠蔽層の一部に空白部分を形成する)を設けたもので、この印刷しない窓枠9の底部は第一隠蔽層が露出した状態になる。なお、この窓枠を設ける位置は、磁気記録層の上層部分の位置に設けるもので、しかも磁気記録層(磁気ストライプ)幅よりやや広い領域にすることが好ましい。

以上の構成により得られた磁気カードにおける磁気再生出力は、図1(B)に示すように、隠蔽層、ベタインキ層、絵柄層を重ねて設けても規格上限及び下限内に収めることができた。

本発明の磁気カードは、第一隠蔽層と第二隠蔽層を設けたものであるが、この第二隠蔽層の一部領域(マーク等の絵柄を必要とする部分)に窓枠(印刷をしない部分)を設けることにより、隠蔽層が二重に重ならず膜厚を制限することが可能となり、しかも隠蔽層とは異なる色のインキによるベタインキ層を設けることも可能となり、絵柄等の任意のデザインによる意匠性の向上と、しかもこのカードの再生出力を規格内に収めることが可能となる。

【発明の効果】
本発明は以上の構成であるから、下記に示す如き効果がある。
すなわち、磁気カードにおける磁気記録層(磁気ストライプ)上の隠蔽層等の層厚を、従来のカードより薄膜にすることができたので、磁気出力が規格を満足し、かつ白色系のベタインキ層により任意の着色インキを用いた絵柄を磁気ストライプ上に設けることが可能となった。
従って、従来デザイン的に不可能であった磁気カードを製造することが可能で、かつ意匠性の向上が図れる等の種々の効果を奏する。
