通常、排水等の配管系中に点在するマンホールは、上下流側配管がコンクリート製の周壁に透設した取付孔に対し、地震等の外力が加えられても破損、漏水しないように可撓性を有するゴム材等から成る可撓性管継手を介して接続されている。
