Description
【0001】
以下では簡単のためラドンと統一する)が上昇する現象が指摘されており、阪神大震災や芸予地震の直前に地下水中のラドン上昇が観測されている[参考文献:Shigeki Tasaka et al. “Ground-Water Radon Anomaly Before the Kobe Earthquake in Japan”,Science Vol.269,(1995) ]。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fiber optic radiation monitor and the same. About the monitoring system used .
[0002]
[Prior art]
Methane hydrate, which is promising as a future energy resource, is said to have many resources on the seabed near Japan, and is considered to be a very effective energy resource for Japan, a small resource country. Currently, various developments have begun, but one of the challenges is that methane hydrate explodes due to crustal movement (this is called explosive), which is a problem for exploration and mining. At the same time, it is said that there is a safety problem [Reference: Institute of Advanced Energy Engineering, “New Energy Outlook Unconventional Natural Gas (Methane Hydrate)”, March 1998]. Therefore, there is a need for a technique for predicting blowout.
[0003]
On the other hand, it has been pointed out that radon in groundwater (or sometimes called radontron, which is called radontron for the sake of simplicity) rises before crustal movements such as earthquakes. Radon rise in groundwater has been observed just before the earthquake [Reference: Shigeki Tasaka et al. “Ground-Water Radon Anomaly Before the Kobe Earthquake in Japan”, Science Vol.269, (1995)]. Therefore, the possibility of earthquake prediction by radon monitoring has been studied.
[0004]
As a radon detector in this case, as disclosed in JP-A-8-75859, it can be directly measured in water and remotely measured, and only radon in water is extracted into a gas phase in the detector by a functional separation membrane. Some measure radiation in real time.
[0005]
In addition, many radiation monitors using optical fibers have been researched and developed as remotely-measureable radiation monitors. First, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-201835 includes a scintillator, a wavelength conversion fiber that is inserted into the scintillator and captures light emitted from the scintillator, and a detection light transmission optical fiber that captures light from the wavelength conversion fiber. The radiation monitor is a radiation monitor that does not require a power source in the sensor unit. Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-258446 discloses the temperature dependence of the light emission intensity of the scintillator by measuring the time decay characteristic of the light emission pulse according to the temperature. This is a radiation monitor for temperature compensation.

Furthermore, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-65937 and Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-208850 provide multiple wavelength reciprocation fibers installed in the scintillator so that the distance between the sensor section and the signal processing section can be increased. Thus, the conversion rate of the detection signal is improved.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
First, the technology for predicting the methane hydrate explosion has not been established yet.
[0008]
In addition, the underwater radon detector, which has been developed as one of the earthquake prediction methods, separates radon in the water into a gas phase in the detector with a functional separation membrane, so the pressure resistance is from 100 to 400 m in depth. However, it is difficult to use methane hydrate on the seabed with a maximum depth of several kilometers for exploring and mining methane hydrate.
[0009]
Furthermore, although some conventional radiation monitors using optical fibers (hereinafter referred to as optical fiber radiation monitors) have a function of temperature compensation, the temperature is determined from the time decay characteristics of the light emission pulse of the scintillator accompanying radiation incidence. Since this was a compensation method, there was a problem that time attenuation characteristics could not be measured and temperature compensation could not be performed in the area of weak light measurement (single photon counting) for long-distance transmission. In the first place, since the conventional optical fiber radiation monitor assumes that a person can easily access the sensor part, the sensitivity calibration of the sensor part can be directly operated by the person. For example, the calibration radiation source was brought close to the sensor unit, and the detection signal was confirmed and calibrated. However, considering long-term monitoring on the seabed with a maximum depth of several kilometers for exploring and mining methane hydrate, human access may be difficult and the problem is that the fiber optic radiation monitor must be calibrated remotely. There is.
[0010]
The object of the present invention is to solve these problems. Fiber optic radiation monitor and using the same To provide a monitoring system.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, first, as a method capable of remotely measuring radiation in a high pressure in the deep sea, the sensor unit of the optical fiber radiation monitor can be calibrated remotely. As the means, the scintillator is optically excited by providing a light source that irradiates the scintillator with excitation light and a calibration excitation light transmission optical fiber that transmits light from the light source to the scintillator. The detection light (fluorescence of the scintillator) generated there is almost the same wavelength as the detection light generated when the radiation is incident, so that the wavelength is converted by the wavelength conversion fiber and transmitted by the detection light transmission optical fiber to be a radiation monitor. It is detected by the signal processing unit. Therefore, if the light source is irradiated at a constant intensity, a constant signal intensity should be detected if there is no problem in the measurement system, the measurement system can be calibrated, and the soundness can be confirmed. In both scintillators and wavelength conversion fibers, the principle of light generation is a phenomenon in which excitation light (radiation in the case of scintillators) absorbs and emits fluorescence. In general, fluorescence phenomenon decreases the fluorescence quantum yield as the temperature rises. The emission lifetime is shortened and the fluorescence intensity is reduced. When the temperature of the sensor section changes, the detection signal changes even if the light source intensity is constant. From this changed signal intensity, the correlation between the temperature measured in advance and the detection signal is obtained. Since the temperature of the sensor unit can be known by using this, temperature compensation can be performed.
[0012]
As another method, the light of the light source is directly incident on the optical fiber for detection light transmission without using the optical fiber for calibration excitation light transmission. In this case, the excitation light selects not the wavelength for exciting the scintillator but the wavelength for exciting the wavelength conversion fiber. The wavelength conversion fiber generates fluorescence by the irradiated excitation light, and the fluorescence returns to the signal processing unit through the optical fiber for detecting light transmission. Therefore, the measurement system other than the scintillator can be calibrated from the fluorescence intensity. And the soundness can be confirmed. Moreover, when the temperature of the wavelength conversion fiber is changing, the temperature can be calculated | required similarly to said method. Since the temperature of the sensor unit can be regarded as substantially the same for both the scintillator and the wavelength conversion fiber, it is possible to correct the detection signal when actual radiation is detected using the temperature obtained here.
[0013]
As another method, a pulse laser beam having a high intensity is used as a light source, and the laser beam is focused and irradiated to an X-ray generation target installed in the vicinity of the scintillator of the sensor unit through an optical fiber for calibration excitation light transmission. Like that. When high-intensity pulsed laser light is irradiated to a substance, a high-density plasma is generated by laser breakdown, and at that time, a large number of electrons of the target atom are stripped off and recombination occurs, resulting in K shell, L shell, etc. Characteristic X-rays are generated. This X-ray becomes a radiation source for sensor calibration, and detection light is generated from the scintillator irradiated with the X-ray, so that the entire measurement system can be calibrated.
[0014]
Here, as a preferable means for improving the sensitivity of the optical fiber radiation monitor, when the optimum wavelength conversion of the wavelength conversion fiber is considered, the fluorescence that is most excited with respect to the emission wavelength of the scintillator and is generated is converted into the wavelength conversion fiber. It is necessary that the wavelength band has a good transmission efficiency of the optical fiber for detection light transmission and does not absorb at all. Here, rhodamine, DCM, or pyridine is selected as the fluorescent material having such conditions. Details are described in the Examples. By doing so, a preferable high-sensitivity optical fiber radiation monitor can be constructed.
[0015]
And preferably, by using the radiation monitor thus calibrated, the radontron gas generated by the crustal deformation is monitored, whereby a crustal movement leading to the methane hydrate blowout can be constructed.
[0016]
Specifically, first, a plurality of optical fiber radiation monitor sensor units are arranged around the well where the methane hydrate is mined, and a monitoring device for centrally monitoring the detection signals is provided. A monitoring system for observing changes can be constructed.
[0017]
In the case of exploration of methane hydrate, the sensor unit of the optical fiber radiation monitor is provided in the fish-type sensor towed from the exploration ship, and the amount of radon in the sea area is measured to measure the crustal deformation. A favorable monitoring system for observation can be constructed.
[0018]
Further, preferably, the signal processing unit of the radiation monitor is built in a buoy suspended on the sea surface, and the radiation monitor sensor unit is pulled down from the buoy to the vicinity of the ocean floor, thereby observing the crustal deformation of the ocean floor to be observed. Is possible. The signal measured by this buoy can be continuously monitored by wireless transmission. Furthermore, the electric power for driving the buoy sensors can be provided by a built-in battery, and can be measured for a long time without replacing the battery by providing a solar power generation element.

FIG. 6 shows the fluorescence spectrum when irradiated with a light source of about 400 nm. It can be seen from Table 1 and FIG. 6 that these fluorescent materials all satisfy the above three conditions. Although there are cases where the long wavelength side of the absorption wavelength and the short wavelength side of the fluorescence wavelength overlap each other by about 10 nm, this is a weak region and can be ignored sufficiently. Furthermore, since these fluorescent materials are organic materials, they can be easily contained in the core of the plastic fiber. Thus, when these fluorescent materials are used, the conversion efficiency of the detection light of the scintillator and the optical fiber transmission efficiency are improved, and the transmission distance can be increased.
