ポータブル・ターミナルからIPアドレスを設定する方法もあるが、アクセス権のないユーザからも容易に設定変更ができるので不正使用を避けることができない。
また、ROMに焼きつけておく方法では、設定変更は非常に難しく、ディプ・スイッチによる設定もカバーを開けてから設定変更しなくてはならず面倒である。

図1は、この発明に係るポータブル・ターミナル用アダプタの回路構成を示すブロック図である。
ポータブル・ターミナル用アダプタ20は、ICカード8からの情報を無線通信手段によって読み取るRFID変換素子2を有するICカード・リーダライタ部12と、ポータブル・ターミナル7からの情報を赤外線を利用した光通信手段によって読み取るIrDA変換素子1を有するポータブル・ターミナルのデータ変換部11と、フラッシュ・メモリ4と、RS232C変換回路5と、LANコントロール・ボード6と、凡ての構成要素を統轄制御するCPU3とによって構成しており、外部機器コネクタ9とLANコネクタ10を備えている。

ICカード8の特定のセクタに書き込まれているデータをアクセス管理番号およびIPアドレスとして利用できるので、アダプタ20に内蔵してあるフラッシュ・メモリ4に登録されているデータと、ICカード8から読み取ったアクセス管理番号を比較することによってICカードの真贋を判定する。
2つのデータが一致しているときは、ICカード8から読み取ったIPアドレスをフラッシュ・メモリ4に保存し、LANのIPアドレスを設定する。

以上説明したように、この発明によるポータブル・ターミナル用アダプタのIPアドレス設定方法によると、IPアドレスの設定をICカードを使って現地で簡単に行うことができ、ICカードのセキュリティ機能を利用してアダプタのアクセスをコントロールして、不正使用を防ぐことができる。
