本発明は、液晶表示装置などの薄型表示装置の照明を行う場合に好適なエッジライト式のバックライト装置に関する。

エッジライト式のバックライト装置(実開平3−37420号公報等)は、導光体の側面に線状光源を配置し、この線状光源を囲むように可撓性の反射シートをU字状に折り曲げて配置している。そしてこれらを、支持枠体に配置固定して組み立てられる。
