【発明の属する技術分野】
この発明は乗員検知システム及びアンテナ電極に関し、特にエアバッグ装置を搭載した自動車の助手席における乗員の着席状況などに応じて、エアバッグ装置のエアバッグを展開可能な状態又は展開不可能な状態に設定し得る乗員検知システム及びアンテナ電極の改良に関する。

【従来の技術】
本出願人は、先に、シ−トにアンテナ電極を配置すると共に、このアンテナ電極に発生させた微弱電界(Electric Field)の乱れを利用した乗員検知システムを提案した。この乗員検知システムの基本原理について図10を参照して説明する。まず、同図(a)に示すように、アンテナ電極Eに発振回路OSCからの高周波低電圧を印加することにより、アンテナ電極Eの周辺には微弱電界が生ずる結果、アンテナ電極Eの側には電流Iが流れる。この状態において、同図(b)に示すように、アンテナ電極Eの近傍に物体OBを存在させると、電界に乱れが生じてアンテナ電極Eの側には電流Iとは異なった電流I1 が流れることになる。

従って、自動車のシ−トに物体OBが乗っている場合と乗っていない場合とでは、アンテナ電極Eの側に流れる電流に変化が生ずるものであり、この現象を利用することにより、シ−トへの乗員の着席状況などを検知することができる。尚、シ−トに物体OBが乗っている場合にはアンテナ電極Eの側に流れる電流が増加し、シ−トに物体OBが乗っていない場合にはアンテナ電極Eの側に流れる電流が減少する。

この原理を利用した乗員検知システムの具体例について図11〜図14を参照して説明する。図11は助手席(又は運転席)のシ−トを示しており、このシ−ト1は主として着席部1aと背もたれ部1bとから構成されている。着席部1aは、例えば前後にスライド可能なベ−ス2に固定されたシ−トフレ−ム3と、シ−トフレ−ム3の上部に配置されたクッション材と、クッション材を覆う外装材とから構成されており、背もたれ部1bは、例えばシ−トフレ−ムの前面側にクッション材を配置すると共に、クッション材を外装材で被覆して構成されている。特に、背もたれ部1bには複数の帯状のアンテナ電極4(4a〜4f)が、ほぼ水平状態で互いに上下方向に離隔し、かつ背もたれ部1bの幅方向の広い範囲に亘って位置するように配置されている。尚、シ−トフレ−ム3ないしその近傍には後述する制御ユニット10が配置されている。

このアンテナ電極4は、例えば図12に示すように、不織布などの絶縁部材よりなるベ−ス部材5と、ベ−ス部材5の一方の面に上下方向に所定の間隔で離隔して配置したほぼ同一サイズの帯状のアンテナ電極部4a〜4fと、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fから導出されたリ−ド線6(6a〜6f)とから構成されている。特に、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fは導電性の布地、或いは布面に糸状の金属線や導電性を有する繊維などを織り込んだりして形成されている。尚、リ−ド線6(6a〜6f)の導出端は後述する制御ユニット10のコネクタ(或いは端子)19a〜19fに接続されている。

この制御ユニット10は、例えば図13に示すように、インタ−フェ−ス回路Aと、ハウジングに配置されたコネクタ19a〜19fと、CPU,A/D変換部,外部メモリ(例えばEEPROM,RAM)などを含む制御回路20と、ハウジングに配置され、図示しないバッテリ電源に接続されるコネクタ21と、コネクタ21に接続され、インタ−フェ−ス回路A,制御回路20などが必要とする適宜のVcc電源を生成する電源回路22とから構成されている。この制御ユニット10の制御回路20には、例えば図14に示す構成のエアバッグ装置30が接続されている。

上述の制御ユニット10において、インタ−フェ−ス回路Aは、例えば周波数が120KHz程度で電圧が5〜12V程度の高周波低電圧によってアンテナ電極4の周辺に微弱電界を発生させる電界発生手段(例えば発振回路)11と、発振回路11からの送信信号の電圧振幅をほぼ一定に制御する振幅制御回路12と、送信信号の送信電流を検出する電流検出回路(情報検出回路)15と、電流検出回路15の出力信号を直流に変換するAC−DC変換回路16と、AC−DC変換回路16の出力信号を増幅する増幅器17と、一方が電流検出回路15に、他方がコネクタ19a〜19fにそれぞれ接続され、かつ複数のスイッチング手段18a〜18fを有するアンテナ電極部4a〜4fの切換回路18とから構成されている。尚、切換回路18におけるスイッチング手段18a〜18fの選択的な切換は制御回路20からの信号に基づいて行われる。

このインタ−フェ−ス回路Aにおいて、振幅制御回路12は、例えば送信信号の電圧振幅を可変する振幅可変回路13と、送信信号の電圧振幅を検出する振幅検出回路14とから構成されている。そして、振幅可変回路13は、例えばプログラマブルゲインアンプ(PGA)よりなる振幅可変部13aから構成されており、振幅検出回路14は、例えばオペアンプなどよりなる電圧振幅の検出部14aと、検出部14aの出力信号を直流に変換するAC−DC変換回路14bと、AC−DC変換回路14bの出力信号を増幅する増幅器14cとから構成されている。尚、増幅器14cの出力信号は制御回路20に供給され、振幅可変部13aに対する振幅可変信号は制御回路20から出力される。

又、このインタ−フェ−ス回路Aにおいて、電流検出回路15は、例えば回路(送信信号系)に直列に接続されたインピ−ダンス素子例えば抵抗15aと、抵抗15aの端子電圧を増幅する差動増幅器などの増幅器15bとから構成されている。この電流検出回路15の出力側はAC−DC変換回路16,増幅器17を介して制御回路20に接続されている。そして、電流検出回路15における抵抗15aの出力側は切換回路18におけるスイッチング手段18a〜18fを介してコネクタ19a〜19fに接続されている。

上述のエアバッグ装置30は、例えばセ−フィングセンサSS1,スクイブSQ1,電界効果形トランジスタなどのスイッチング素子SW1の直列回路よりなる運転席側のスクイブ回路と、セ−フィングセンサSS2,スクイブSQ2,スイッチング素子SW2の直列回路よりなる助手席側のスクイブ回路と、電子式加速度センサ(衝突検出センサ)GSと、電子式加速度センサGSの出力信号に基づいて衝突の有無を判断し、スイッチング素子SW1,SW2のゲ−トに信号を供給する機能を有する制御回路CCとから構成されている。

このように構成された乗員検知システムは、次のように動作する。まず、発振回路11から高周波低電圧が送信されると、それの電圧振幅が振幅検出回路14の検出部14aにて検出され、その検出信号はAC−DC変換回路14bにて直流に変換され、増幅器14cにて増幅されて制御回路20に入力される。制御回路20では検出された電圧振幅が所定の振幅値になっているか否かを判断し、所定の電圧振幅に修正するための振幅可変信号が振幅可変部13aに出力される。これによって、送信信号の電圧振幅は所定の振幅に修正され、以後、振幅可変回路13及び振幅検出回路14の連携動作により、一定の振幅に制御される。

電圧振幅が一定化された送信信号は電流検出回路15,切換回路18,コネクタ19a〜19fを介してアンテナ電極部4a〜4fに供給され、その結果、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fの周辺には微弱電界が発生される。この際に、切換回路18のスイッチング手段18a〜18fは制御回路20からの信号によって開閉制御が行われ、最初にスイッチング手段18aのみが閉成され、次にスイッチング手段18bのみが閉成され、以下同様にして順次に特定のスイッチング手段のみが閉成されると同時にその他のスイッチング手段は開放されるように選択的に切換制御される。従って、特定のスイッチング手段(18a〜18f)が閉成された場合には、電圧振幅が一定化された送信信号は電流検出回路15,特定のスイッチング手段(18a〜18f),特定のコネクタ(19a〜19f)を介して特定のアンテナ電極部(4a〜4f)に供給され、その結果、特定のアンテナ電極部(4a〜4f)の周辺には微弱電界が発生され、乗員の背中,肩,首,頭部などのシ−ト(アンテナ電極部)との接触面積(対向面積)の違いに応じた電流が流れる。この電流は電流検出回路15によって検出され、AC−DC変換回路16にて直流に変換され、増幅器17にて増幅されて制御回路20に次々と入力される。

この制御回路20には、予め乗員の着席の有無,乗員の識別(大人か子供かの区別)などに関するしきい値(しきい値デ−タ)が記憶されている。例えば乗員の着席の有無に関しては、乗員の着席状態ではアンテナ電極部4a〜4fに流れる電流のレベルが空席状態に比較して高くなることから、電流に関する信号デ−タが一定値を越えているか否かを基準にして設定される。又、乗員の識別に関しては、大人と子供によって、それぞれのアンテナ電極部4a〜4fに特徴的な電流が流れる上、その電流レベルも大きいことから、その特徴的な電流パタ−ンないし電流レベルを基準にして設定される。

従って、制御回路20に取り込まれた複数のアンテナ電極部4a〜4fに流れる電流に関する現実の信号デ−タは各種の演算処理が行われる。例えば現実の信号デ−タは予め記憶されている乗員の着席の有無,乗員の識別などに関するしきい値デ−タなどと比較され、シ−トに乗員が着席しているか否か,シ−トに着席している乗員が大人であるか子供であるかなどが判断される。この判断結果に基づいて、図14に示すエアバッグ装置30は制御回路20からの送信信号によって、エアバッグが展開可能又は展開不可能なるようにセットされる。即ち、制御回路20からの送信信号はエアバッグ装置30の制御回路CCに入力され、乗員が子供の場合には助手席側のスイッチング素子SW2のゲ−トに信号を供給しないように、乗員が大人の場合にはスイッチング素子SW2のゲ−トに信号を供給するようにセットされる。従って、何らかの原因によって車両が衝突した場合、乗員が子供の場合には助手席側のエアバッグは展開されないし、大人の場合には展開される。尚、運転手席側のエアバッグは助手席側の状況に関係なく展開される。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
このように構成された乗員検知システムによれば、シ−ト1に配置した複数のアンテナ電極部4a〜4fに微弱電界を選択的に発生させることによって、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fに大人又は子供の乗員に対応する特徴的な電流が流れることから、この電流に関連する信号を制御回路20に取り込んで演算処理し、しきい値デ−タなどと比較することにより、シ−トへの乗員の着席の有無,乗員の識別などを的確に行うことができる。従って、シ−トに子供の乗員が着席している場合には、エアバッグの展開を未然に防止でき、エアバッグ装置30の望ましい制御が可能になる。

しかしながら、近時、かかる乗員検知システムに対してコストの低減が強く要請されている。例えばアンテナ電極4において、複数のアンテナ電極部(4a〜4f)は、乗員の乗り心地に配慮して、導電性の布地、或いは布面に糸状の金属線や導電性を有する繊維などを織り込んだりして形成されている関係で、材料コストが高くなる傾向にある。

その上、アンテナ電極4は導電布よりなる複数のアンテナ電極部4a〜4fの裏面にホットメルトなどの接着剤を塗布した後、このアンテナ電極部4a〜4fをベ−ス部材5に所定の間隔で離隔して配置し、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fを加圧しながら熱処理することによってアンテナ電極部4a〜4fをベ−ス部材5に固定することにより、製造されているが、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fへの接着剤の塗布やアンテナ電極部4a〜4fのベ−ス部材5への配置が手作業によって行われているために、量産ラインにおいて、アンテナ電極部4a〜4fとベ−ス部材5とを所定の位置関係に配置したり、アンテナ電極部の間隔を所定の間隔に調整したりすることに多大の工数を要する結果、作業能率が著しく損なわれ、生産性を高めることが難しいという問題がある。

それ故に、本発明の目的は、比較的に簡単な構成によってアンテナ電極は勿論のこと、制御ユニットのコストを有効に低減できる上、生産性をも改善できる乗員検知システム及びアンテナ電極を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
従って、本発明は、上述の目的を達成するために、シート及び/又は該シートの周辺にアンテナ電極を配置し、該アンテナ電極の周辺に電界を発生させ、該電界に基づいてアンテナ電極に流れる電流に関連する情報データを検出し、該情報データに基づいてシートへの乗員の着席状況を判断するように構成した乗員検知システムであって、前記アンテナ電極は、絶縁部材よりなる1つのベース部材からなり、該ベース部材に一端から他端に向かって水平方向に導電部材をスクリーン印刷により被着した複数のアンテナ電極部を所定の間隔で離隔して配置したことを特徴とする。

さらには、本発明の第5の発明は、前記アンテナ電極部を、導電部材にて帯状,蛇行状,櫛歯状のうち、いずれかの形状の形状に形成して構成したことを特徴とし、第6の発明は、前記ベース部材の一部に孔を形成すると共に、この孔を含むベース部材の所望部分に導電部材を直接的に被着してアンテナ電極部を形成し、アンテナ電極部にリード線を、孔を利用して接続手段によって電気的機械的に接続したことを特徴とし、第7の発明は、前記導電部材は、少なくとも導電性フィラーと、樹脂を主成分とするバインダと、溶剤とを含み、ベース部材に被着してアンテナ電極部を形成した後に熱処理することを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
次に、本発明にかかる乗員検知システムに適用されるアンテナ電極の第1の実施例について図1〜図2を参照して説明する。尚、図11〜図12に示す先行技術と同一部分には同一参照符号を付し、その詳細な説明は省略する。同図において、シ−ト1の背もたれ部1bにはアンテナ電極4が、クッション材と外装材との間に位置するように配置されている。このアンテナ電極4は、例えばスパンボ−ド(不織布の一種),不織布,織布などを含む布材、紙材、レザ−、プラスチックフィルム、フィルム状のゴム材などの絶縁部材よりなるベ−ス部材5と、ベ−ス部材5の一方の面の所望部分に直接的に被着された導電部材よりなる複数のアンテナ電極部4A〜4Fと、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fより導出され、かつアンテナ電極部4A〜4Fと電気的な接続関係を有するリ−ド線(図示せず)とから構成されている。

上述のアンテナ電極4において、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fを形成する導電部材は、例えば高分子材料をマトリックス(バインダとも呼称される)とし、金属(銀,銅,カ−ボンなど)や金属酸化物,カ−ボンブラック,グラファイトなどの導電性微粒子(導電性フィラ−)を分散・懸濁し、適度の粘度を有する液体状に構成されており、状況に応じて導電性フィラ−の分散性を向上させるための分散剤などが使用されることがある。この導電部材は、通常、液体の状態では不導体であるが、熱硬化処理により導電性フィラ−同士が接触し、あたかも鎖状の導電経路が多数形成される性質を有する。尚、マトリックス(バインダ)としては、例えばエポキシ樹脂,フェノ−ル樹脂,ポリイミド樹脂,シリコン樹脂,エポキシ樹脂をシリコンで変性した樹脂などが好適し、エポキシ樹脂,シリコン樹脂が推奨される。

この導電部材によるアンテナ電極部4A〜4Fの形成はスクリ−ン印刷装置による印刷方法が推奨されるが、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fとなる部分以外をマスクするマスク部材を利用した吹き付け,塗布によって形成することもできる。このような導電部材の他に、アルミニウム,ニッケル,銅などの金属を利用して蒸着,メッキのいずれかによって形成することも可能である。尚、図示例では、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fは帯状に形成されているが、状況によっては渦巻き状を含むル−プ状,蛇行状,櫛歯状,放射状など適宜の形状に形成することも可能である。

上述のアンテナ電極4は、例えば図3に示す製造ユニットによって製造される。同図において、R1は長尺状のベ−ス部材5を巻回したロ−ルであって、送りロ−ラを介して他方の巻き取りロ−ルR2に巻き取られるように構成されている。ベ−ス部材5の移動経路にはスクリ−ン印刷工程,熱処理工程が設けられている。このスクリ−ン印刷工程にはスクリ−ン印刷装置PRが配置されている。このスクリ−ン印刷装置PRは同図(b)に示すように、例えば角形の枠Wと、枠Wに張設され、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fの印刷パタ−ンが形成されたシルクスクリ−ンSと、液体状の導電部材例えばカ−ボン粉末,エポキシ樹脂,溶剤などを含むカ−ボンペ−ストCPを移動させるためのスキ−ジSGとから構成されている。熱処理工程には加熱炉Hが配置されており、例えば150〜200°C程度の温度に設定されている。

まず、ベ−ス部材5の所望部分がステ−ジSTの上に移送され、停止すると、スクリ−ン印刷装置PRが降下してベ−ス部材5の上に配置される。この状態において、スキ−ジSGをシルクスクリ−ンSに、シルクスクリ−ンSがベ−ス部材5に接触するように押し付けながら図示矢印方向に移動させると、カ−ボンペ−ストCPも同方向に移動することになる。この際に、カ−ボンペ−ストCPはシルクスクリ−ンSの印刷パタ−ンを介してベ−ス部材5の上面に印刷され、例えば100μm程度の厚みのアンテナ電極部4A〜4Fが形成される。印刷が終了すると、スクリ−ン印刷装置PRはステ−ジSTから離れるように上昇する。この動作に関連してロ−ルR1,R2が回転し、長尺状のベ−ス部材5が1ピッチ分移動して停止する。すると、再び、スクリ−ン印刷装置PRがステ−ジSTに降下して上述と同様の作業が繰り返し行われる。印刷の終了したベ−ス部材5は加熱炉Hにおいて加熱され、硬化処理が行われ、これによってアンテナ電極部4A〜4Fには導電性が付与される。そして、熱処理の終了したベ−ス部材5は巻き取りロ−ルR2に巻き取られる。尚、ロ−ルR2に巻き取られたベ−ス部材5は、必要時に、適宜の寸法に裁断して使用される。

この実施例によれば、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fはベ−ス部材5に、カ−ボンペ−ストCPを利用したスクリ−ン印刷によって自動的に形成されるために、先行技術のように手作業によるアンテナ電極部のベ−ス部材に対する位置合わせ,アンテナ電極部相互の間隔の調整を完全に省略できる。従って、生産性を著しく高めることができるのみならず、製造コストを低減できる。その上、図13に示す制御ユニットに適用すれば、制御ユニットのコスト低減も可能になる。

図4は本発明にかかるアンテナ電極の第2の実施例を示すものであって、基本的な構成は図2に示す実施例と同じである。異なる点はアンテナ電極4を複数例えば第1,第2のアンテナ電極の2つに分割したことと、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Fを帯状のル−プ状に形成し、その一部分にそれぞれ端子孔4Aa,4Ba,4Ca,4Da・・・を形成したことと、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Bの高さ(上下方向の長さ)をアンテナ電極部4C〜4Fの高さより小さく設定したことである。

第1のアンテナ電極4はベ−ス部材5aにアンテナ電極部4A〜4Bをスクリ−ン印刷によって形成することによって構成されており、第2のアンテナ電極4はベ−ス部材5bにアンテナ電極部4C〜4Fをスクリ−ン印刷によって形成することによって構成されている。特に、アンテナ電極部4A〜4Bの高さはアンテナ電極部4C〜4Fの高さより小さく設定されている関係で、第1のアンテナ電極4は第2のアンテナ電極4よりも小さなサイズに構成されている。

この実施例によれば、シ−ト1の背もたれ部1bの構造上の問題から図2に示すような一枚物のアンテナ電極4の配置が難しい場合でも、アンテナ電極を複数に分割することによって容易に配置することができるようになる。

図5〜図6は本発明にかかる乗員検知システムの第3の実施例を示すものであって、アンテナ電極4には第1の実施例又は第2の実施例が適用される。同図において、10Aはシ−ト1のシ−トフレ−ム3ないしその近傍に配置された制御ユニットであり、例えば複数のスイッチング手段18a〜18fを有する切換回路18と、複数のインタ−フェ−ス回路Aa〜Afと、制御回路20と、電源回路22とから構成されている。切換回路18におけるスイッチング手段18a〜18fの切換は制御回路20からの信号に基づいて行われ、これによって、インタ−フェ−ス回路Aa〜Afには選択的にゲ−ト信号が供給される。インタ−フェ−ス回路Aa〜Afの高周波出力の送信系にはそれぞれコネクタ(又は端子)19a〜19fが接続されており、このコネクタ19a〜19fにはアンテナ電極部4A〜4Fがリ−ド線などを利用して接続されている。又、インタ−フェ−ス回路Aa〜Afの出力系は制御回路20に接続されている。尚、この制御回路20にはエアバッグ装置30が接続されている。さらに、電源回路22はバッテリ電源(12V)を例えば5Vに降圧して単一のVcc電源を生成するように構成されており、生成されたVcc電源は制御ユニット10Aを構成する回路要素のうち、Vcc電源を必要とするすべての回路要素に供給されている。
